Review and analyze now for company Evergreen Plumbing & Heating and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''I had to have a new gas boiler installed. Evergreen was so helpful and kind.
My husband is handicapped and I needed service immediately. They were there for me.
I can't say enough about them. Their employees are polite, kind, and capable.
I recommend them to everyone I speak with. Thank you Evergreen! Technician didn't show and when I called, Erin insisted that, on the previous day, they left me a message to reschedule.
I told her that wasn't true as I looked at my phone logs. I did received a text message on the day before and did confirm with them by replying back.
She constantly interrupted me and when I complained that she was talking over me, she then hung up. I'm surprised as I have had nothing but good vibes and service from this company.
I am located in Pawtucket. These people are crooks...! They have no techs, they employ salesmen.
Piss poor ones at that. They told me I needed a new firematic and transformer and that the entire boiler must be rewired.
Funny thing was I am a Union Electrician and knew this all to be bullshit. Avoid this company at all costs...
Don't call these people. Came to my house looked at the furnace didn't do any work and charged me almost 500$ terrible! New england boiler works is who to call they are amazing prices were great! Stay away from EVERGREEN PLUMBING!!!!!! Where do I start? These guys are crooks the tech charged me a mark up price of 3500% for a piece that cost $18 they charged me $550 including the labor but still 3500% smh never again! it was too much for them to even replace the air filters that I bought for my unit.
I should've known any company that says initial visit is $79 and after that the tech willl go over pricing w u is just a sign of wolves preying on helpless homeowners!!! You've been warned beware!!! They responded quickly on a plumbing issue, but sent someone out that gave me incorrect information on the valve that needed replaced. Had to send someone out 2 days later, only they sent 2 people for a job that only needed one person.
So, of course they most likely have charged us for both. Have requested multiple times for a breakdown of charges on a very expensive invoice that I already paid.
Thus far, 2 weeks later, have refused to send me an itemized invoice. I just want to see the charges broken down into parts and labor.
Thus far, the manager, George, has ignored or refused my request. One of the most unprofessional contractors we've EVER dealt with.
Have learned a valuable lesson, ask for an itemized invoice before payment. It is sad and avoidable that I wish that I could give them zero stars.
This is attributable to the "trifecta" of the "suit" REFUSING to speak to customers, customer service being abysmal, and the business banning me for speaking up about their "lousy" treatment. I note as well that Evergreen does not respond to one-star reviews.
All of this happened several years ago, but I both regularly think about it and now have a good relationship with a competitor that saves me from the possibility of having to beg these guys to what seems to be overcharging me for work. I bought my house several years ago, and my seller recommended Evergreen.
Soon after moving in, I decided to buy a new toilet and in hindsight think that that may not have been necessary. I bought a higher-end one that cost $800.
The young guy who did the work was nice and did a good job, The company had just started a new mobile credit -card payment system, which gave the guy trouble. That is understandable, and I thought that we were set.
A combination of wanting to establish myself as a good customer and not knowing the age of my water heater was behind my ordering a $1,500 unit when the guy was there to replace the toilet. The next day, I got a call from Evergreen customer service telling me that the charge for the toilet was not properly put through and that they needed my card again.
I again understood and was not annoyed. Several days later, I got a second call stating that the charge still was not processed and that they needed the card a third time.
I was rather annoyed but assured that it was handled properly that time, I fortunately was a little ahead of the game in selling my old house and had enough to pay for my move and some high move-related expenses. It also was a very hectic and stressful time, My credit-card bill was extremely high and had a long list of charges.
I reviewed them and thought that the Evergreen charge was among them. TWO MONTHS after the toilet installation, I get an essentially pay up deadbeat call from Evergreen telling me that I never was charged for the toilet.
At this point, this was a large unexpected charge at a time that I had spent quite a bit of money. My credit-card company confirmed that I never had been charged by Evergreen.
My perspective was that I had fully cooperated with Evergreen and given them my credit card three times. Also, two months had gone by without a word.
An accommodation in the form of a discount or spreading the charge over a few months would have been very reasonable. I spoke with a nasty manager, who demanded that I immediately pay up.
Both wanting to put this behind me and wanting to have a decent relationship prompted giving him my number. The charge went through that time.
I called Evergreen a year later to do work and was told that I was banned. i received the same response several years later.
My overall response to businesses of this type after increasing aggravation is "forget" them. There always is a better alternative.
I will add that I have a terrific relationship with a competitor that generally offers great service and is awesomely responsive when something goes wrong. No show/ no communication on day of installation.
Called half hour after scheduled visit to confirm work would still be completed, and I received confirmation that work would be completed that day. by 11 am, still no one on site.
had to call the office to be told the work will not be completed that day. very poor communication, unprofessional and unreliable Should be a no star, I called to see if they could help with my dryer vent to which I was told they could do.
They sent over a technician who was just there to look around and price the job at $900(other companies quoted $200 for the same job). The technician was extremely rude and laughed at me because I wasn't technical enough and needed help.
I was then told to pay $109 no refundable fee and at the end of it they wouldn't be able to do the job since they were just plumbers. Why send someone know in you wouldn't be able to do the job.
I was able to fix the problem myself thankfully. Avoid this company at all costs.
Worst customer service experience I have ever had in my life. So sad that I have a 5 yr contract with them but will be walking away from it...
We had an exemplary experience with Evergreen and would HIGHLY recommend their service. We lost power over the holidays and were forced to seek help at a very busy time, when most companies gave us lip service or said we were in a queue.
Evergreen put us in a queue, and called back to get an update - the woman my wife spoke with was incredibly helpful and sensitive to our situation. Ultimately, Jake was assigned to us and he did fantastic work.
He was also very personable and quickly diagnosed the problem (we had a burst heating pipe). He accomplished the repair and made recommendations about adding insulation that we incorporated during the repair.
Jake even did an incredible job putting our flooring back together. Bottom line, Evergreen was impressive and I would not hesitate to call them again or recommend them to family.
Will never have them come again. $89 to come and diagnose.
I asked Sarah (the woman who answered the phone) if that $89 covered the snaking of my toilet. She didn't know.
She said the tech will tell you before hand. Nick the tech guy told me $49 for snaking + that $89 diagnostic fee...
fine. When he was finished he said I'll knock $50 off, because it was an easy job.
I was confused as to what he was talking about since he told me $49 for the snaking. He then proceeds to tell me its $439.
I threw a fit at him so he knocks off the $89 diagnostic fee. That still leaves me with a $350 totally unexpected bill just for snaking.
If he didn't knock off the $50 + $89 that would have been $489 just for a snake job. I looked at the invoice after he left and it said pull toilet/snake.
What the heck is pull toilet?? I know he didn't pull the toilet out. If he did he wouldn't have deducted that $50 for *an easy job* AND he would have been there longer than the 20 minutes he was at my house. The last snaking that I had done was $145.
I know snake jobs don't cost almost $500. I had a new toilet put in 4 years ago for an even $500.
That was for service , new toilet AND installation. This company was sneaky about pricing.
Nick had me sign a paper before he did the work, fine. But he never told me what he was going to do or that the price was on the paper I signed.
I guess that's my fault for not scrutinizing the paper before signing it. Not to mention they charge a buck just to put your debit/credit card on hold.
I was totally screwed and I'm quite upset. If you can see the pic you'll see the bowl was completely scratched to hell...
by Nick... looks disgusting.
My recommendation is if you like getting screwed out of money or have money to burn then use them.. if not...
then don't. BTW I called and complained so they offered a $55 credit.
Don't know what good that is, I'll never use them again. Thanks for the screw Evergreen! Thanks for the shoddy job Nick! Edit: Apparently trying to redeem themselves they offered to replace the toilet bowl Nick scratched to hell.
I agreed. Was told they would be at my house between 2 and 6.
Took the afternoon off of work only to get a call at 630 canceling and wanting to reschedule next week. Can now add unreliable to serve to their list of inabilities.
Unbelievable! If you need a plumber for a quick job, then maybe Evergreen can help you. However any followup with estimates and follow through with repairs is non-existent.
I contacted them a month ago to come out for an estimate on replacing a drain stack in the basement, as well as updating some plumbing in the bathroom. I received an email reply fast and an estimator came out within a couple days.
He spent an hour with my husband, was completely knowledgeable and understood exactly what we needed. He said we would have an estimate the next week.
While waiting for the estimate, we contacted them to have a C - wired added from the furnace to a new WiFi thermostat. Again, we had a tech come out right away, he gave an estimate and honored that, even though the job required more hours and labor than initially thought.
However, a few days later, our furnace and thermostat kept shutting off, so we reached out again, and a tech came that Saturday evening. He assessed that our thermostat was too strong for the furnace and it damaged our furnace control panel and we would need a new one, or the heat would keep shutting off.--I was told I would receive a follow-up call on Monday with a price to install (est around $600!).
We kept following up via phone about our initial estimate, and was told several times I would have it the following day--this went on for another week. Then sent emails, no reply.
No callback about the heating issue either. It's been a month from initial estimate with plumber and several weeks for heating system.
We connected thermostat to electrical wiring for additional power, and have had no issues since- what a waste of $ if we had paid to replace panel. Very disappointed and annoyed.
If the job is out of scope, just let a customer know up front! And nothing bothers me more than not receiving follow-ups when promised. I called to schedule an appointment to fix our heater, as it is incredibly frigid.
When booked for the next day the customer service receptionist quoted $249 for a 4:30 pm appointment instead of the $69 advertised on their website. When I asked why she said it was because that rate only applied to regular business hours.
So, I scheduled a regular business hours appointment for yesterday. No show, no call, no text and when I called two separate times no answer.
It's freezing and we are now left without heat because they didn't show up or even text!! Today I learned what an actual hvac technician will do when working on a central air unit. The technician was clearly not trained in hvac and simply replaced the air vent.
Didn't even look at the central unit. This company called me repeatedly to set up visits to see what else could they fix.
Aka look for problems and charge a fortune doing the bare minimum. Called Evergreen January 2018 because no heat...boiler cold.
Sched appt. took time off of work and technician no showed.
Secretary called me and was very nice so I was willing to give them another shot. Tech showed and as soon as he walked into the basement announced that I needed a new boiler.
Yes it's old but until that week it was running like a champ. He informed me that we needed a new aqua stat - so one full, yes, one full day of labor later and $900+ later we had a new aqua stat.
Within the next week...no heat. Called and scheduled a follow-up appt.
Second technician showed and once again as soon as he walked into the basement he announced that I needed a new boiler for $10-13k! He refused to listen to me telling him that it sounded like the igniter wasn't turning on - he was more interested in selling than listening! Fast forward to today after intermittently losing hot water for about one year, my brother-in-law comes over and diagnosed the problem after one boiler tech class at NEIT and one month on the job. A $70 part and 10 minutes of labor and just like that we now have a fully operational boiler.
Nothing like losing one day of work, $900+ and a year of frustration for a part that is less than $100 and took a very inexperienced tech 10 minutes to install...save your time and money and look elsewhere! I have requested the service for installing Water heater. They gave the quote of 3870$.
I agreed and paid 1393$ initial deposit and 399 $ membership fees .On the day of service they didn't come to install it .When I called them , they told they can not install it and new charge will be 6500$. I asked them to return my money as charges were very high.
After everyday follow-up , they didn't return my money and asked me to contact my credit card company. I am still waiting for my refund when I am writing this review.
WARNING Do Not Use Evergreen Plumbing. I called them in August to repair my central a/c in my home.
They do everything they can to sell you their annual service. Don't Buy It!!! They sent someone out right away and was told I would be called the next day and kept up to date about when they expect the ordered part to come in.
After two days I called them and spoke to Sarah. She told me she would get back to me within the hour.
Well I called back again two days later. Well let's just say they do not call customers back Ever.
Finally I called enough, that they got somebody here with the part to fix the a/c. The next morning my husband said we have a leak in the closet from the attic.
I did get someone here from Evergreen Plumbing and I was informed the guy they had do the work put a part on incorrectly and they admitted fault would have the damage fixed. I called them Many times with the we will get back to you stuff.
Finally they had a painter come over to look at the work to be done. Over a week went by I called the painter and he told me they were not getting back to him to approve the work.
Well I finally after almost two months I called my home insurance company so they can deal with this Horrible Company. See my pictures and Don't Use This Company they are a Nightmare Came out to assess/fix frozen pipes.
Misquoted the emergency service fee by $50 (180 not 130), did not fix frozen pipes, fixed an unrelated issue, charged 450 for a 70 dollar part and 20 mins of work. Did not quote price ahead of time, did not resolve issue called for.
Talked to Steve upon calling for clarification of billing practice. He is trying to work with me on pricing on this.
Ask for pricing up front. Have previously had ok experiences with these guys, but do not call for emergency.
Vet each plumber they send individually, standards across their contractors vary hugely. Responsive, responsible and professional.
Our ac unit went out for good. They evaluated and replaced moments before a tropical storm.
They were dedicated and EXCELLENT. Came back 3 days later to evaluate and adjust.
In the midst of a heat wave and in hard circumstances, they were the best. Will be using them for a new furnace.
Do not call this company for plumbing. No one has answers.
No one knows anything. Customer Service is horrible.
I reach out to one of the owners on FB and somehow he manages to respond to me within seconds. Then when he realizes why I'm reaching out...he has yet to call back.
Nearly a week has gone by, very unprofessional. For a simple $40 fix we paid nearly a $900 bill.
Literally they charged $400/hr but somehow everyone I get a hold of can't discuss the breakdown of the pricing because no one has access. Except for the owner John and his son Giuseppe Mastroianni.
Read this...Find another company. Find another plumber! The overall experience with Evergreen was excellent, the four stars is only a result of confusion with appt.
time. This was a pre-purchase inspection, so two real estate agents and buyers both had to schedule.
Buyer understood the appt. to be at 8am, upon calling the office at 8:30, we were told it was anytime between 7am and 11.
That's not practical for our business, though i understand the need. The inspector who came out was very professional, communicated extremely well to my buyers about the system, it's issues and possible future scenarios.
He went far beyond what I would have expected to take furnace apart and discover the problems. He was very understanding of the situation, andwas very clear about the condition without being too negative.
He's the type of inspector that we need in my business to help first time homebuyers make good decisions. Evergreen is lucky to have him in their employ! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY !! I had them come out in Feb.
to look at a problem. The charged $229 for visit and $1074 for a part needed.
Only to call back a week later to tell me they couldn't get the part. They said 45 DAYS to refund my $1074 (which is a joke).
Well 45 days came and went, still no refund. They said it was being processed but I could call my CC company and dispute charge (absurd !!).
Once I did that, they credited me $998 ???? Now its been 3 weeks and they will not return my calls (at least 10x's) regarding my $76 additional refund to make me whole. So UNPROFESSIONAL, STAY AWAY !! We have been customers for years.
They are organized and reliable. Super professional.
They are also expensive. They have coupons.
Use them. You will need them.
Pay them with a check or else you're going to get an over $30 surcharge for using a debit/credit card. When they price things out and negotiate the pricing it's like haggling for a car.
I really wish they could nail that down so it wasn't the oh the price is high xyz, but we are going to finagle this discount here and there like they are doing you a favor. I don't need psychological games when my heating is out.
Just the facts. The people in the office are super nice! I decided to sell my condo at the last minute and I needed some work for new countertops.
We needed to have the kitchen sink and dishwasher uninstall/reinstall, new garbage disposal installed, and the same for the bathroom sink. We had about 3 weeks notice so we were in a rush.
Evergreen was the only company that was responsive and could do both parts of the job on a Friday and Monday. I think they smelled blood and billed the highest rate possible.
The charged $3,500, I would estimate the bill rate to be about $400 per hour for labor. The pluming itself looks good and he did clean up after himself.
The plumber forgot about the new garbage disposal (he uninstalled the old one ) and then told me it needed a power cord after he installed it. I told him I could have run out to Home Depot and picked one up, he could have worked on the bathroom while he waited.
He also forgot to hammer out the dishwasher feed so I almost ruined my dishwasher. Luckily I was at home when I ran it.
The price I paid he wouldn't even connect the dishwasher to the cabinet for me. It was a complete disappointment and I had to fix the garbage disposal myself and wire the power cord.
Call them to come out to see why shower drain wasn't going down. They ran a snake down drain and charged me $475!! He was literally there for 10 min.
I called to complain next day and they gave my a $55 credit for the next time I use them. No thanks , prices are way too high.
Everything was excellent. I moved to Florida last year and was worried about the maintenance of my rented properties.
My tenant calls me to say no heat. They were out there same day and reasonably priced.
The teck called me with recommendations and explained the issue immediately. Linda in the office was very pleasant and easy to talk with.
She explained pricing and credit card payment and took care of everything. Very good company and will use them for all my needs.
DO NOT ENTER!!! Our water heater went, so I called, out came the tech, 2500.00 written quote for a 30 gallon tank, well I called a local master plumber, 1185 for the job, that's including labor, I was shopping today and stopped in Home Depot , there's my tank ,,,,677.00 Hmmmm makes you wonder, if you feel like giving your hard earned money away , by all means , go here, if you want a small independent that is honest and not money grubbing, look one up Terrible experience with Evergreen sales department. Would give them zero stars.
I recently had an emergency situation where my furnace completely failed leaving me without heat and temperatures below 20 degrees. The furnace had to be completely replaced.
Based on a referral of a prior client, I called Evergreen and we booked an appointment, saying they would come out on a Tuesday to do an inspection and develop the quote (3 days without heat at this point). At the time of the appointment on Tuesday, I received a call saying that their sales person was delayed with another job, And would not be able to come until the following Thursday.
Having no choice I accepted the new appointment. Then on Thursday the person did not show at the scheduled time, and when I called asking if they were on their way, I was told that once again the sales person was too busy with another job, and I'd have to wait again (now 5 days without heat).
I requested a call back from the sales manager and the person who answered the phone said they would make it happen, but never heard back. There was zero regard for the fact I had no heat, and there was zero follow through by their salesforce.
Happy to say I had much better success with one of their competitors, and had a brand new system installed after a week and a half without heat Beware!!! I hired this company for annual maintenance. I was given one price on the phone and then was charged more than double - with no additional repairs given.
Additionally, I expressed my concern with the price difference and was asked if I needed to call my "husband" (nonexistent) to talk about it. I am disappointed in the misinformation from the company but more disappointed by the sexist remark made by their technician.
Terrible service. On 10/26/18 I paid Evergreen $795.78 for a tune up and various repairs to my gas heating system.
Then on 10/30/18 I had to have them come back to replace a zone valve. As an "ultimate member" they charged me $375.00 for less than an hour of work.
When I tried to contact them they did not return my calls. Then after a year and a half of absolutely no contact, I suddenly received an email stating that I still owed them $375.00.
What a bunch of incompetent goons. I will never use them again for anything and would advise anyone to look elsewhere.
They hook you in with an expensive "ultimate membership" and then overcharge you throughout the year. We were extreemly happy with Steve and his team.
Our furnace broke down and we were having trouble getting someone to even come out for an estimate. Steve came out the same day we called.
He was very professional and the estimate was fair. Even though he was busy, he knew we did not have heat so within a few days his team was here replacing it.
Carlos and another guy were here 2 days and were amazing. Victoria and Linda in their office coordinated everything including calls when they were on their way.
I would definitely reccommend Evergreen. Forced me to pay for a "service" because I signed the paperwork.
Little did I know that they left us with no hot water. Tried three times to contact them with no answer.
If I didn't pay the bill they were going to report it to a collection agency . We had the "responsibility " to pay , they assumed "no responsibility " for leaving us with no hot water .
PLEASE DO NOT USR THIS COMPANY. I used them in 2013 to install a water heater and they were fine.
I was about to use them again in 2016 to install a new boiler and they said that if you use the National Grid rebate they won't warranty any of their work. So, I'm about to pay $10,000 for a new heater and if it breaks the next day because it was installed incorrectly you're not going to do anything about it? I went with someone else.
We have had Evergreen Plumbing and Heating do several small and large scale projects at our home and couldn't have been more satisfied. When I contacted them they answered the phone personally and scheduled an appointment for an estimate.
They arrived on time and were very thorough in discussing exactly what our needs were for each project. Their pricing was fair and they performed the work in a timely manner according to our agreed upon schedule.
If I ever had a question while the work was going on or afterwards, they were immediate with their attention and response. The work is neat and the workers were respectful, clean and knowledgeable.
Jobs well done. We returned from vacation and our central A/C was not working.
I contacted Evergreen and they promptly sent a tech. Over the phone they told me there is a $135 diagnostic fee that would be credited to the repair.
Turns out the run capacitor failed and the tech quoted me $561 to repair it. I signed off on it but called the office to verify.
I also checked the cost of the run capacitor and it's about $10. They never took off the diagnostic fee but did reduce the bill by $56.
Total ripoff for ~30 minutes of work and a $10 capacitor. Never again.
They charged me $475 for a boiler's transformer part that cost $69.95 at Supply House online. When I called that out, they tried to ease me by giving me a $55 coupon, making the charge of the part $420.
That's is not including the labor/diagnostic cost. It only took the technician 10 minutes to change the transformer out.
Taking advantage of customer's desperation is not an ethical way of doing business. I have never paid so much for what turned out to be a simple clogged drain.
They charge a flat fee and seemed to indicate it was a difficult job and could be catastrophic. It wasn't.
They snaked the drain and were done in a very short time. Never again.
Don't call this place if you need compressors checked and condensers serviced. Both of mine were working fine - I just wanted a 'check-up' for them - and the technician managed to disable both of the compressors during the same visit.
First issue got resolved - his error - but he left us with a very hot house that was normally cooled by the larger compressor. The company refused to fix the problem that day, sent him (against my wishes, since he was incompetent) to correct the problem the next day claiming I had mysteriously developed a freon leak after he topped it off.
Wrong! They have no business sending someone who doesn't know how to service condensers - in fact, causes damage by his visit. They also offered to conduct a leak test at no charge but never followed through.
So - if you want incompetence and lying - this is your place. Nice plumber.
Decent service. BUT INDECENT PRICES!!!!!!!!!!!! Totally abusive and unfair.
Terrible. $500 to unclog a toilet.
BEWARE! So our hot water faucet which I had installed by Evergreen in 2017 the hot water pressure dropped. The technician came out and found that the turn off valve rubber ring had broken apart and clogged the pipe reducing the water flow.
He asked me to shut off the water in the basement, he replaced the valve needed turned back on the water and all was fine. My issue here was the invoice was never itemized showing what amount was parts vs labor.
The bill was close to $400.00 (outrageous). I paid the bill but then it bothered me the price was so high for such a small job when I had to run up and down turning the water on and off.
I called the office and spoke with Steve asking if he could credit me back some of the costs as I thought it was too high. He agreed and told me he would be sending a check.
Its been over a month and still no refund check. We have used Evergreen many times since moving here in 2016.
I will (NOT) be using them again nor would I recommend. I am not one to typically write reviews but I feel my experience with Evergreen has been horrible.
A tech came out to check our system and ended up saying the boiler was cracked. He said he could give me a quote before he left for a new boiler.
He ended up leaving and taking my check for the diagnostic charge and told me I would hear something later in the day on the quote. Two days go by and I never received a quote, I call Evergreen and I'm told I will be receiving a quote today.
Anther two days go by and nothing still, I reach back out again. I'm told the same thing you will receive the quote today or tomorrow the latest.
I NEVER heard. I waited another FULL week before I reached out for the last time.
Same exact response that I would receive the quote today by the manager. NEVER heard anything.
Extremely dissatisfied with the customer service they provide to paying customers!! I shouldn't have to chase someone down for business. They had no issues cashing my check immediately, but cant give the courtesy of giving a quote.
They suck. We paid them a nice amount to install valves on our pumps.
They purposely installed a faulty valve. When our maintenance man asked him about it, they said they knew it was faulty but did not test to see if it worked.
It has not worked since they installed the valves. We had a new gas water heater installed today.
They did a very professional job. Arrived on time as agreed.
Kept in touch with us during the day before arriving. Very friendly guys, explained to us how to care for our heater.
Also, got a very reasonable price for a well reputable brand heater. Much better price than the Home Depot contractor we asked for a quote.
We had them do a plumbing job last year, too. They did the same great job then.
We would recommend them without reservations. Just had them come to check my heating before the cold weather comes.
As usual, the plumber was polite, went about his work and kept me informed as to what he was doing. Even put on those little blue booties when he came into my home.
Will definitely call them again for my plumbing work. Great firm to work with.
Honest, responsive, and reasonable. They installed a brand new high effeciency hot water/heating system in my Narragansett Beach House and did a fantastic job.
I would give 2.5 stars but that's not an option. The work was okay, not great, I had to do some minor work afterwards to keep new problems from starting up in a few years.
Seems way overpriced--works out to over $300/hr--will try another plumber first next time. I know tradesmen are expensive nowadays but this still seems high.'''.
