Review and analyze now for company Calhoun Plumbing and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''I called this company and requested that they provide a quote for me on a leak in the basement of my property. They plumber said he would go to the property within an hour an get back to me with the quote.
The plumber never called me back. I called the office looking for an update and the woman who answered the phone told me she didn't know where the plumber was ,and then their was a long pause.
She did not offer any assistance. I then asked her if that was all she had to say.
She then said "I can put you through to his cell phone, if you want me to" I could not believe the lack of professionalism. The technician was prompt, polite, and effective.
He was here within an hour of my calling. Clayton was professional, efficient, and knowledgeable.
I will use this plumber going forward. I trust and have called Calhoun Plumbing for my rental needs.
Responsive, efficient and fair. I would give them zero stars if I could! They are extremely rude, do not know what they are doing, LIARS and simply horrible in every way! They scanned my warranty company and left us without hot water for DAYS! We had to fork out the $ for a hotel just to shower! Then they wouldn't answer the phone, even tho they advertise 24\7 service.
What a joke! I told my warranty company they were never allowed back on my property! My hot water heater was replaced in timely fashion. The cost was reasonable.
I have used this company several times and have been happy with their employees. They did a good job of cleanup afterwards.
I will not hire this company again. Charged $160 and problem not fixed.
Not professional in person or on the phone. i HAVE HAD AN absolutely nightmarish experience with this company..
Not only did the technicians arrive an hour and a half late, they left without completing the job nor informing me that they were going to another job and would return later in the evening. I was once again without water, the service for which they were contracted in the first place! When their emergency line was contacted, I was informed that they went to another job.
I was NEVER consulted nor informed that they would return later in the evening. For all I knew, they abandoned me with an unfinished project! To add further insult, when they did return, one of the guys laughed when I pointed out their miscommunication.
This was no laughing matter for me nor the $3000 PLUS DOLLARS on the bill! POOR BUISINESS PRACTICES, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICDE, POOR COMMUNICSION SKILLS!! i highly recommend that any homeowner look elsewhere for help! CALHOUN PLIMBING IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!! I had used Calhoun before at my previous house and they had done an "ok" job. Maybe cost a bit much, but ok.
As a handyman I only really call a plumber for when it gets bad. Well, my new place has 40 year old plumbing and has started to get some pinhole leaks in the copper pipes.
Long story short, they found a leak after six days, they fixed what they thought the leak was, didn't bother checking to find the SECOND leak right below it, then upcharged me 300-400% for parts I didn't get an estimate for. Longer version: - Saw slow leak coming from ceiling, called Calhoun Friday, they couldn't come out until Monday.
- Monday comes, guy opens up ceiling more (it was already partially open at that point. Can't find the leak, says it's in the wall upstairs and he'll have to come back Thursday to look for it (six days after original call).
I asked that he calls before coming Thursday since I have work meetings. - Thursday comes, they don't call and show up in the middle of a work meeting, so I am distracted and can't watch or ask questions.
- About an hour and a half later, the guy says they're done. He put the toilet back on for whatever reason (I need to take that off to fix the wall, so why would you put it back on?).
I write a check for what I assumed was mostly labor, since it was just a few small parts and there were two guys here. - Later, I get an itemized receipt, and notice how high the parts cost seems, and how much extra I was billed for (new closet bolts for the toilet, even though that toilet was installed just last year and the bolts should have been fine.
New caps. Sharkbite connections instead of soldered copper replacements).
I call, and lady on phone gives me some stupid excuse for that "being the set price because they get it from a supplier". - I hadn't touched the bathroom to this point since I wasn't looking forward to the drywall/tile repair, not to mention taking out the toilet they put back in without checking with me.
So I just now notice that a second elbow is leaking still. So they didn't actually fix the whole problem? So $466.63 later, I have two giant holes and a huge mess to clean up, and my pipes are still leaking.
But at least I have a professionally installed toilet? Give me a break... Next time I'll just shut off the water in my house and wait for a different company.
Oh, and due to their 4% mandatory fee for paying by card, I payed by check, so I can't even dispute it. Wow.
Arrived promptly and not at the last minute of the time scheduled! Looked at the problem, determined the action to resolve and fixed it quickly without any interruption into my time. I would reach out again for any plumbing service and highly recommend.
Oh failed to mention. Calhoun did work on my daughter's home which we are rehabbing.
It required a new stack, moving kitchen plumbing and replacing bathroom plumbing. Its great to be able to support a local company and get good service priced reasonably.
Called them as a new customer - man that answered the phone seemed irritated and annoyed. He gave me bad advice in a condescending tone which ended up costing me more time and money.
Will not call them again. I've called on these folks three times over the last several years to help me out with my home's plumbing.
From fixing a busted water pipe, to replacing worn out fixtures, plumbers John and Troy always do a great job and they are a 24/7 operation. There's 4 stars and 4 reasons why I like them: 1.
A real person answers the phone. 2.
The dispatcher and plumbers are always polite and courteous. 3.
The plumbers always arrive during the agreed upon 2 hour time slot and they call ahead to let you know they are on the way. 4.
Their prices are reasonable with a service call being $45 and Labor is $80 per hour. They don't charge extra for Saturday service calls either.
These folks have been in business since '92 and they've never let me down and for that, I'll continue to call on them whenever needed. They're a solid 4 star business, plain and simple.
Useless. Had a leaky outside faucet and kitchen faucet is loose - just needs tightened.
Dude from Calhoun comes over, looks at the outside faucet, says 'I can't help ya buddy'. So I said 'can you tighten the kitchen faucet?' He says 'oh that needs a special tool, I think I have one in the truck'.
Comes back in and gets under the faucet and looks around and after a while I got another 'I can't help ya buddy'. I just thanked him and he left.
I guess the dude was having a bad day?! WTF Anyhoo got an appointment with EcoPlumbers; hopefully they can help. 0 stars given for Calhoun plumbing.
They arrived on Friday November 5. 3 hours later than the 2-4 pm time they said they would be here.
The plumber attempted to snake our sink. Did not fix the problem.
The plumber said he would send pictures to the "estimator" and we would hear back from them the following Monday. Have called everyday since and they still were working on the estimate.
Originally was told that we needed all new piping and holes would have to be cut into our floors to fix. Fast forward to today Thursday November 11.
We still haven't heard from Calhoun plumbing. We called Eco Plumbers this morning.
They were out within 2 hours and they FIXED the problem! We didn't need all new piping and no floors had to be cut into. DO NOT USE CALHOUN PLUMBING! They only received the 1 star so this review could be posted.
Emailed this company to get a quote for installing a sink in my garage. After being told from them that they don't like installing them, they said I would have to install a heater for my garage.
This isn't my first rodeo with winterizing bathrooms and sinks as I grew up in New England. After several emails back and forth they finally agreed to come out and quote me.
I took a 1/2 day off from work and the company confirmed the date and time twice but never showed up! No email or any other communication. I guess they are not interested in my business.
I can not say enough about this company. Our water heater went out on a Friday evening and we had been without water all weekend.
We had contacted several other companies and hadn't had much luck. Most companies won't give you a quote over the phone and want a service fee just to come out.
My husband called Calhoun on Monday and they luckily had a cancellation and were able to fit us in. They told us the approximate cost barring any complications.
They called with a delay due to vehicle issue but still came and completed the job. They had the new water heater installed in less than an two hours.
They were efficient and professional and we would definitely use their service again. Nora P.
Gahanna, OH Lady on the phone was very rude will have you on hold forever and she got very smart saying you need service or not 1500 to change a sink is crazy ONE STAR COMPANY! My home owners insurance assigned Calhoun Plumbing to come quote a SIMPLE water heater tank replacement. The contractor from Calhoun came to my home and said that it was an extremely COMPLICATED job.
He said my entire water meter needed replace, that I needed to get a permit from the city, and that I could be looking at thousands of dollars because my pipes were brittle. He also stated that I needed to be super careful to turn my water back on and to have the city on the line because the pipes were going to burst.
The next day my home owners insurance called and said that Calhoun Plumbing REFUSED to touch my water tank. Two hours later, I called another company and my water tank was replaced without needing to remove a single pipe, and for under $1000! See pictures below of the job this company refused to do because it was too difficult for them! Save your money and call a real company next time! Extremely friendly staff, we have to call them once a year because of tree roots that grow through your drain lines.
They're always fast, friendly and get the job done. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
I scheduled my annual backflow test for commercial property two weeks in advance. I received a call from the City of Columbus Water Department informing me that Calhoun's plumbing license to do backflow test expired and they did not renew.
They advised me to not allow them to do backflow test. This is the day before my appointment.
I called Calhoun's Plumbing to ask why no one called to cancel appointment or let me know the license was expired. It is less than 24 hours before the appointment and still no call! The receptionist is very rude.
The customer service was extremely poor. The water at my business could of been disconnected due to their error.
Or they could of charged me for a backflow test that the City would not accept. Either way terrible customer service to small businesses.
Came on time, called ahead, took care of the problem, very reasonably priced (we'd been advised by the gas company on what this could cost and they were spot on that estimate.) After 4 days of frustration from other companies that didn't show as promised, or rescheduled, or were too busy to come for weeks, having them come within 2 hours of my call was wonderful. We have hot water again after several days -- I wish I'd called them first.
I have had a total of 4 service calls between December and now to have a Kitchen drain unclog. Each time they say it's not a warranty issue "Because ma'am you can't put beans, rice or pasta down the disposal" Each time they unclog the drain a few days later it backs up again and they don't feel bad about charging me even if the issue was never resolved.
I can't afford to keep taking days off of work and paying $123 every time. I don't recommend this company, they are condescending and a ripoff! Super quick fix! And.
Great price for new hot water tank. Highly recommend.
Called at 8am. They had someone on site at 10.
New hot water tank installed by 1pm. Hot water by 1.30!!!! Shower by2.
Priceless Calhoun has become my go-to plumber for those inevitable house things that come up. They are courteous and organized, from answering the phone right away to arriving on time for appointments.
They fit me in right away when I had a slow leak in my basement. More than that, they seem to actually CARE about their work.
For example, when the plumber was fixing a line to my dishwasher under the sink, he tightened up my disposal because he just happened to notice it was loose. When I had a separate issue two weeks later, they waived the $45 service call because they had been here so recently.
I appreciate honest and trustworthy service people--Calhoun is a winner! Cleaned lateral - barely. Water backed up again within 3 weeks.
Didn't respond to request to come back out. Had to have another company come out and do the job right.
Wasted hundreds of dollars with Calhoun. Avoid.
Charged $175 for video footage of sewer which showed a lot of water about 80 ft out from house. Stated we had a collapsed sewer pipe.
Repairs would be in $7K range. I called Muetzel Plumbing for another quote.
They also ran video through pipe (for free) and found roots. They used power wash type tool to clear roots all the way to main sewer.
Drain is now fine. Muetzel cost: $253.
Calhoun used to be an excellent company and we used them a number of times with good outcomes. However.
my last experience with them left me with over $10K in damage and the realization that the management of this company has all but disappeared. Calhoun was called out to replace a sink trap and clear out the clog from the drain line in a second floor bathroom.
In attempting to clear the line, pipe located behind the wall was gouged. I was told they would need to return the next day to repair it.
Come next day, I called the office to see what time the plumbers would be returning to find out that no one there was aware that this had occurred. When the plumbers finally did return, they determined the only way to fix what they broke was to remove my toilet, cut a hole in the drywall and attach the drain line to the main stack.
They felt this solution was very clever. Unfortunately, this "solution" also broke piping joints further down the line and the first shower of the following day emptied out right into my kitchen ceiling (apparently they did not think to check all the additional water lines after they made their "fix").
It took them over a week to "repair" this damage AND had the gall to charge me for it. Each time I called the office to ensure people were coming to complete the repairs, I was met with confusion.
No one there seemed to have any idea what was going on in my house and that I expected people to return to repair the damage! Meanwhile, in all this time, none of the plumbers had ever chased the water they were leaking all over my house and, as such, it was pooling in my basement bathroom. When we finally noticed the smell, the dry wall was so saturated you could easily stick a finger through it.
In order to fix the mess Calhoun had created I had to make an insurance claim and my insurer felt it necessary to send out a damage remediation and restoration company. It took almost 4 weeks and $12K to repair what Calhoun did to my house.
I would not wish that kind of negligence on any one. I scheduled appointment with Calhoun Plumbing for 8am Saturday 2/23/13, the plumbers did not make it to the appointment until 8:32am, which is stated on the work order.
I showed Calhoun Plumbing the problem which was a backed up sewer line which caused poop and sewage and toilet paper to back up in the basement. Calhoun guys said it will take a snake machine, and they will need to go thru the toilet.
Calhoun takes an hour to finish job, that was fine. They brought out some roots and made it to us like those particular roots was the issue.
I am a female, so I figured it was enough to fix the problem. Calhoun said they ran the rinse cycle to insure the job was fixed.
I took there word for it. I paid the $241.00 bill and they left.
Later that night I started to wash the clothes that was ruined from the basement backup, and the back up started to happen again, this time with alot more old poop and toilet paper coming out. This is when the problems start.
When I called back to say the problem wasnt fixed, I got into a full dispute with "Trisha, Calhoun receptionist" about the fact that she was going to charge me all over again for the guys to come fix what they never fixed. I told her I will call back Sunday morning, expecting more professionalism.
When i called back Sunday, she sent me to voicemail. I call back Monday, still with poop in my basement, and Calhoun Trisha hands the phone over to Calhoun's "Mike", which he goes in a full out rage about how Calhoun is "being nice with allowing guys to come out for 1 hour free." He didnt even let me tell him my concern.
At this point I was overheated with the lack of professionalism and lack of concern for the consumer. I cancelled the check that was wrote to pay for the service.
I hired Roter Rooter, I watched the whole process, and the kitchen trash can full of roots and debris come out the hole. I paid an extra hundred dollars for this service, but it was done right, the first time.
But I still feel responsible as a consumer to warn about Calhoun. Called to get someone out to look at a leak in our basement.
They came quickly but came out with absolutely no diagnostic equipment. They looked around and said well we need to get our rotor rooter type camera thing out here...
the guy set us up with an appointment for the next day and they never showed up! We called and they just said oh sorry must of got lost somewhere. It was written down on our receipt for $85 for the 20 minute "diagnostic visit".
They couldn't reschedule for several days which is a long time when you are without water! Ended up going with ECCO instead and had a much better experience. Don't use Calhoun unless you want to get ripped off! Incredibly unprofessional.
The receptionist is rude and has no clue what's going on. We used them once and our friend ended up taking over the cam for the sewer line inspection.
The second time they didn't show for the appointment. They are awful.
Do not use. I have a small business in downtown Columbus where I had some serious drain issues.
I had called one of the national companies to assess and write a quote for the repair. I was astounded by their quote and called several local plumbing businesses to get their opinions.
Calhoun was my choice after discussing my problem over the phone. They were prompt, courteous and got the job done for 1/3 the cost of the quote from the national firm.
Calhoun is now my plumbing company! Love it when a contractor answers the phone and does what they say they're going to do. Calhoun doesn't charge a different rate for Saturday appointments which is great since I work during the week.
Good rates, professional service we'd definitely use them again for any plumbing needs. This is the second time I've used Calhoun.
Really like their work ethic-do what needs to be done don't try to screw you by selling you what you don't need. Requested same tech from a year ago-still works there! Reasonable rates, fast service! My go to plumber!! My appointment to fix my hot water heater was scheduled between 2-4 with a 40 minute call ahead since I was at work and had a very full schedule.
They called me at 12:15 and said they were on the way, when actually they were already sitting in my driveway. They quoted my home warranty company one price and when I called the office to see if they could do any type of payment arrangement they said it would be higher since they need to pull a permit.
They did not explain the permit process or tell me that they would send me the permit. My tech, Troy was verbally not happy about having to move the dryer, when I let them know in advance that it would have to be moved.
I supplied the hose to drain the old tank because again he verbally had issues with draining it. My tech was rude and sarcastic during the entire process left and did not tell me anything about a warranty or how to adjust the temperature or anything.
I will NEVER use this company again. The office staff was about as friendly as Troy was.
He did have a helper named Tanner, we was nice and apologized for Troy's attitude. If I hadn't already been without hot water for 5 days and missed work to meet them at my house I would not have had them do the install and had someone else come out.
My elderly father is fortunate enough to still be living in his house for 55+ years (his house was built in the late 1950's). Recently, after trying to resolve a plumbing issue myself, I contacted Calhoun Plumbing to take care of a clogged drain problem that my dad was experiencing in his shower.
It was backed up, and the water level would rise even when I used the water in his kitchen sink (single floor plan home w/basement). I work less than a mile from his home, and I check on him daily.
On the day of his service call, I was not able to be there during the repair, and I was not sure what to expect when I went over after work. Not only did the gentlemen clear out his clogged drains, but everything was cleaned up better than I could have imagined! Very professionally done, and at a price that I think was better than fair! I would definitely recommend them to my friends and family! My dad lives in the south-end of Columbus, and I contacted Calhoun Plumbing because they were located close to his home.
I love to support local businesses, but I would contact them for my plumbing needs no matter where I lived in Columbus! the bathroom is the one place i try to stay away from. These guys have helped me out a lot.
Thank you! I have an issue with Calhoun Plumbing. I am an Owner of a Tile and Flooring company.
We were redoing a customers residence in Bexley,( very upscale high rise building with loft condos) for a single woman. Calhoun plumbing was contracted to reinstall a toilet and pedestal sink after the tile work was completed.
Customer hired Calhoun herself for the task, for warranty purposes. Plumbers arrived day after the completed tile, reset the toilet, and than worked for FIVE HOURS on the pedestal sink, and charging her 100 dollars an hour.
After FIVE HOURS, The plumbers told the homeowner that she would need to replace her faucet, because there were parts missing. It doesn't make since because the only thing disconnected from the faucet were the flex lines from the valves.
I called Calhoun Plumbing to discuss the matter with the owner, and left a message with owner, and did not receive a call back to discuss what his installers were doing, saying and charging a customer. I did not receive a call back.
I than called the next day, only the call was received by a guy named Jeremy. I professionally told him the situation at hand, and he told me this was not an issue that Mike the owner would ever concern himself with.
He told me that it was the homeowners fault for having someone else remove the sink, and that he was happy that our plumber could install the sink with no issues in 30 minutes.( NOT REPLACING THE FAUCET.) In the end the Plumbers seen that she was a single wealthy woman, and were trying to bill her excessively for services she did not need. 500 dollars for the first day and another for the next day when they were to replace the faucet.
A total of 1000 dollars to install a vanity!!! The plumber also had a helper with him and he told the customer that he was doing her a favor by not charging her double for having two guys on the job!!!!WHAT!!!! Two guys for a pedestal sink,15 minute job!!! I would stay away from this company and will relay that statement to all future customers that I have!!'''.
