Review and analyze now for company Radiant Plumbing & Air Conditioning - Austin and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Had Juan Ramirez with Radiant.. come out and replace my Moen cartridge in the bathtub.
He was on-time, and had done this job before, so knowledgeable! (With hard water calcium in the water, it can be a bear, doing this job! ) He worked tirelessly and it fought hard but he got the job done! Price was reasonable, so I had an outside faucet replaced as well! It's really nice to get to know your plumber and Juan is the type that you enjoy doing this and taking care of your plumbing needs! I am a single middle class mother. I spent 14,500 dollars a little over a year ago.
That's A-LOT of money for my family. Radient installed an Ecobee thermostat.
For the past month my thermostat has been randomly resetting itself to temps as high as 92 degrees. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Ecobee (who I will also be writing a review of).
Their customer service and troubleshooting left me in tears at least a dozen times and never solved this problem. After 3 weeks of dealing with Ecobee and still having to constantly check my app so I could lower the temp in my home when I wasn't there (and there were many times the app wouldn't allow me to make a temp change for some reason unknown to me), I called Radiant...and I called them in tears.
I explained the problem and they offered to send someone out to take a look, I said I was available after 5 because I'm a teacher and can't take off work, her response was "so I'll send them in the morning?" "NO! Did you not hear what I just said?" She set the appointment for the same day and I expected someone be at my home that evening. Then I got a text message saying they were fully booked and asking if they could come the next day.
I responded no, we'd be out of town at a funeral....crickets. I replied "is no-one coming today?" Crickets.
"Please respond". Crickets.
"I'm calling customer service." At that point I ask to speak with a manager. "Sorry they're in a meeting" someone will call you next week (this was a Friday) so I continue to have to deal with the changing temps.
She set up an appointment for Monday. I called back immediately and spoke to the same person asking if they use brands other than Ecobee because that company already sent me a replacement and after no resolution, I did not want someone showing up with a replacement Ecobee.
Of course she didn't know and said she'd look into it.....so then what happens? Chris, the technician, and at this point the one and only Radiant employee who's treated me with any real empathy, shows up with, guess what? An Ecobee. It's an upgrade so I go with it.
The very next day, the temp changes again. That manager, Alexandra, finally gets in touch with me.
I explain the whole story for the 1,000th time and she says she'll send someone out to install a different brand. What she does NOT tell me is that the technician is bringing an old school thermostat that you can't set up a schedule for and certainly has no app connected with it.
After waiting 2 1/2 hours for him to show up ( and of course someone texted me but would not respond to my replies "is someone still coming?" It's now 7:30pm. I said no to installation.
This is 2024. After paying 14,500 dollars for an AC, and everything I've been through, this is the best Radiant can do? And of course it's now Friday again so me and my 10 year old will have to go another weekend dealing with this infuriating situation and wait for a call from Radiant next week.
After doing my own research, this is not an unusual problem with Ecobee. Radiant cannot be unaware, and for them to have nothing better to offer me is unacceptable.
Radiant tried to take advantage of our family when our AC wasn't working. Instead of fixing the problem they tried to sell us a $15,000 new system that we didn't need.
We had someone else come and fix it for a few hundred dollars. Radiant is a dishonest company, and I would strongly recommend against using them.
I don't trust them, and I think that they prey on customers instead of helping them. I almost never write negative reviews, but I feel I owe it to my neighbors and community to post this.
I had previously used Radiant, however, I was bombarded by the constant attempts at upselling so switched to another major company in Austin and have been happy with them. Today, I realized I will be a customer of SALT...and here's why.
Radiant upsold me (and my nephew in HVAC said this one thing was a good idea) a filtering system and an infrared light that was ostensibly to take out bacteria (forgive me, but I don't know appropriate nomenclature for HVAC things.) Since my HVAC is in the attic, I can't really get up there so was unable to see/verify their work. When SALT came to install a new filter system, I declined the light because I knew I had it (and found it on an old invoice.) However, he said that it was not turned on and was NOT even connected to power! The box that it had been removed from was discarded upstairs in the attic with the power cord inside.
It had been up there over 2 years without the benefit of removing the bacteria - and I paid for NOTHING!! The SALT tech was honest and let me know and found the box up there with the cord in it so he just connected the power and it worked. I was INCENSED to know I'd been taken advantage of by Radiant and so pleased with the integrity of the SALT tech who just plugged it in.
He could have not told me that and continued to charge me for installation of the new light knowing I likely would not know. But because of his actions yesterday, I knew I would be a SALT customer for life.
I hope they see this review and find the tech who did such shoddy, deceptive work and terminate that person or at least give him extensive training!! This is one of the worst things a company can do - deceptive practices and taking advantage of people!! Do better Radiant! Spend your money on training instead of the stupid, cheesy commercials!! I would give them a -5 starts review if I could! Let me start from the beginning, in May last year we had them come check our A/C and were told we needed a new unit, which we proceeded and bought and had them install it. A week ago we had a mold testing company inspect our home, the inspector told us that the HVAC unit wasn't sealed and that the A/C crew who installed it should have done so.
Long story short, we called radiant to seal it and also clean our ducts since we were told that the ducts had mold spores and gross dust, (our youngest son has severe asthma and he is highly allergic to mold). We had two guys yesterday morning to clean the ducts, the kids and I left the house and we came back to a nasty mess.
There was dust everywhere, on top of all the beds, stuffed animals, drawers, kids toothbrushes and towels, blankets, pillows... everything ! Our whole house was covered in gross dust, I spent 8 hours deep cleaning my whole house, they said they would send the crew today to clean, but there's no way I was going to leave the house like that for a whole day with my son being so sensitive.
Not only they were extremely unprofessional, but they put my son's life at risk! I am attaching pictures of the house after they left! This is absolutely unacceptable and I will never recommend this company to anyone! Also, the prices are ridiculous expensive compared to other local companies. OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE!!!!!! TONS of 1 star reviews for being dishonest.
DO NOT USE THEM!!!! Look, we all know plumbers are expensive- charging like hourly lawyer fee rates... but Radiant is BEYOND a rip-off.
I foolishly used them a couple of times over the years, and I'm done. I just feel like I'm being totally scammed by their prices and estimates, and I feel that being a woman, they are REALLY scamming me.
I heard from another woman, in a different neighborhood, that she felt "gender scammed" too. They are double, triple, quadruple other companies on plumbing issues.
I don't feel like they are honest at all with their prices and estimates. It doesn't leave you with a good feeling believing you were scammed by them, on a job that another plumber could have done for MUCH cheaper (but it was an emergency and you needed the problem to be immediately fixed).
It is time to put RADIANT out of business for dishonest pricing. Logan was extremely helpful, explained the situation and the repairs he was making, and gave me tips for keeping the equipment working well.
Technicians like him are the reason I stick with Radiant. With all their cute commercials, I thought they'd be great! But when I needed a plumber the most-- when water was shooting out of the wall in my shower, they seemed to take their time coming to help.
Then, when they had to come back because they didn't have the part, they sent a different plumber who thought I had a clogged drain! After waiting another hour for them to get their act together, I decided to go elsewhere. Hugely disappointed! This has been an absolute nightmare.
After 4-5 trips out an over 6 thousand dollars where each tech was diagnosing a brand new root cause for our cooling issue (and never had any idea what the previous tech did or have previous notes available to them when trouble shooting) we have been told we just had a lemon unit. A lemon unit that just happened to be 5 months out of the 5 year warranty.
Ok sure that's so unfortunate and maybe just bad luck- we took their advice and got a brand new unit, spending another 15k. Now at 21k+ and a new unit later- 30 days after full replacement, the new unit it stops cooling the upstairs! New tech (with no history or awareness of the situation) comes out and says the zone separator in the attic was not plugged in so the unit froze "this happens sometimes" was his conclusion.
Hm ok that seems absolutely ridiculous but what can we do except, accepting this fix and hope he is right. 2 days go by and the unit is again not cooling.
I call the weekend line and the lady on the other side has the gumption to say she has not appointments available today and when they do come out there could be a 79 dollar charge. This has been an experience from hell where the processes, systems and training of staff is to blame, rather than individual employees who always seem polite and timely when they do show up.This has been an absolute nightmare.

They show up again and say "oh the temperature gage is old and faulty" how could that be? They just replaced the whole unit.
They promise to come back and replace it....it has been now 2 more days with no AC and nobody has called me back. I have called 4 times over the last 2 days requesting for a manager call back- absolutely no response.
This has been an experience from hell where the processes, systems and training of staff is to blame, rather than individual employees who always seem polite and timely when they do show up. BEWARE!!!!!! This company will take advantage of you and squeeze every dollar out of you they can.
Radiant came out to assess why our AC wasn't working and quoted us $6,000 to fix our 4yr old unit. The tech provided us with "good, better, and best" quotes, which was clearly just a sales ploy.
He also said there were so many things wrong, we could even look at installing a new unit which would run us $15-25K. We got a second opinion and had another technician come out the same day and fixed the issue for $200 in less than 1 hour.
This is a terrible company that will take advantage of honest people that just need their AC fixed. I will make sure to tell all of my friends and family NEVER CALL RADIANT.
I suggest you avoid Radiant. I hired Radiant to check my A/C, signed up for the maintenance plan.
I was told this would get me priority service. The technician cut a hole in my duct to check my duct work.
He didn't seal my duct, and he told me my ducts were filthy. I hired a duct work company, they said he was trying to sell me something, were shocked me didn't patch the cut he made in the duct work..
Further, he didn't blow out the drain. The drain clogged.
I called Radiant, they said I would have to wait 4 days. A different plumber came, was shocked the Radiant guy didn't blow out the drain.
So, they damaged my ducts, tried to sell me something I don't need, and didn't do the thing I hired them to do. And then told me I would have to wait 4 days for them to fix it.
Had an hvac install and there was some carpentry work that needed to take place. "Tim the tool man" Polished up any of the construction work so perfectly & went above and beyond to prep the house and areas to assure no mess was left behind after work was complete.
Thanks Tim! Expensive, find someone else. This is your sign to get a different quote and not go with the first you see or the first one onsite.
Good luck. Great customer service, nice people, they dont make it seem like they overcharge but do but expect 25-40% more for things.
Check yelp first I'm not out even a fraction of the amount some of these other folks are, but I'm still angry. Last month our bathtub drain was clogged.
I suspected it was with a combination of dog hair from a recent bath, and my daughter's long hair. I was sick and didn't feel like buying a snake to try to unclog it myself.
I started calling plumbers, and one after another either didn't answer or didn't have availability for days. Finally called Radiant, and they could get someone out the next day.
I was pleased. The next day came and when the technician arrived and assessed the problem, he said he could fix it.
He then showed me a tablet with prices on it, indicating the one for the drain unclogging, and had me sign off on it. It is completely my fault that in my fevered state, I assumed the number he gave me was the highest price they could get up to, if my clog was very serious or needed a great deal of time to fix, and I signed it.
Mea culpa! 20 minutes later, he had unclogged the tub--it was a tiny wad of dog hair and my daughter's hair. And then he charged me the full $312.
For twenty minutes of work. Let me say it again: Three HUNDRED and twelve dollars for 20 minutes of work.
After I was able to breathe again, he asked me to leave a review for him, and had me scan a QR code so I could leave the review right then. He also told me that if I give a score of 5 stars and mention him by name, he gets to pick out a gift card.
And because he was personally a nice guy, and I was suckered in by the thought of him getting to get a gift card to a nice restaurant, I left a good review on the Radiant website. About an hour later, I called the office, because REALLY? That works out to $936 an hour.
I spoke to someone to ask if $312 is really what they charge for a nearly instantaneous job, and the person I spoke to seemed very understanding, saying that DID seem like a lot for such a small job. (The technician even sent photos of what he pulled out of the drain, and there was barely anything.) She said she would have a supervisor call me back, which happened pretty quickly.
The supervisor also said that seemed high for the job, but said she'd get with the pricing people and call be back, which she did. She said that was the appropriate amount, but they offered me a whopping 10% off, or about $30.
My response was just, "WOW. Okay.
. ." Then I told her I appreciated her trying, and I would appreciate getting that huge 10% refund, but I just wanted to let her know the reviews weren't going to be very complimentary.
She then said she'd call her pricing person back to see if she could get me a larger refund. Of course, I never heard back from her again.
It's been about a month or so, and I never even got the $30. So yeah--pricing is egregious, the practice of asking for a review standing right in front of you while you do it is manipulative, and their utter lack of care (do you see them responding to any of these horrible reviews?) is unconscionable.
Horrible business practices. If they cared at all, they'd be trying to work things out with customers, but they don't.
LONG story short, if you need a plumber, go with someone--almost anyone--else unless you want them to knock you out, steal your kidney, and leave you bleeding in a bathtub full of ice that they later charge you $312 to unclog. I called with an emergency situation.
No AC. Heatwave, kids pets and elders in the house.
The lady who answered the phone was not skilled in how to practice good decent customer service AND More than Two weeks before they could service an emergency call!!!! So after dealing with their computer AI phone service and then finally a human who was very unhelpful we called a local Company--TAV-AIR and they came the same day at 10 pm and charged us half the price !! Amazing! Radiant plumbing seems like it has a bad rap, but our experience was pretty decent. Our plumber, Ezekiel, came at the scheduled time and unclogged our drain fairly quickly.
Turns out there was a grease clog about 30 feet into the pipe. Communication was a little annoying, since I told them to come in the afternoon but they came in the morning when I wasn't entirely available.
Overall, not bad at all considering they only charged $79 for a holiday special, when other companies were quoting somewhere between $200-$400. Always a pleasure to deal with! We have used Reliant for HVAC and plumbing issues.
Highly recommend. Felt like I was at the mercy of the technician from the start.
Immediately made me feel like I was doomed for having an old unit as he stated with out looking at the unit "yup she's done for". Said it was going to fail no matter what temporary solutions they made.
Told me he had an anniversary today and made me feel like he was going to rush. Was informative but over explained things which I thought was unnecessary.
Asked if I wanted a $400 conductor or a $500 one. If my unit was doomed to fail why even ask? Said the part had no warranty and no guarantee it could be reimbursed if I bought a new unit from y'all it would be possible to get a refund on it.
Kept pushing new unit through out the day and even schedules someone to give me a estimate. Update: Called and talked to manager about why I was charged so much for the cheapest part of the unit and they said "We have no control of the price outputted by our system.".
Shady company do not do business with them!!!! Our A/C stopped (threw a breaker, which it's done before). One of their technicians came out.
He threw the breaker and it immediately tripped again. Then I watched him pull and replace wires in the outside unit.
When he threw the breaker switch again I heard a troubling "fruummp!" Now, I'm not saying he did anything wrong, but the sound was definitely different as he proceeded to say, "Your compressor is locked and it'll cost you about as much to replace as getting a whole new system." "How much is a new system?" I asked $25,000 I asked him for a detailed estimate for repair-only, which he said he'd be happy to do. After sitting in front of my house for 40 minutes, he finally sends me an estimate that doesn't give any pricing detail - just a 'total' of $16,000.
After taking all of the cash I had on me for the diagnostic fee, he says, "If you change your mind, I'll be outside for a while." Then he sat in front of my house for another 40 minutes - I guess hoping I'd come rushing out drenched in sweat saying I'd pay anything, just fix or (preferably) replace it. Now, every friend and family member I have on Facebook claims that the prices he quoted are insane.
A church friend said he had his entire A/C system replaced not too long ago for $8,000. A coworker also told me that in 2018 he had his system replaced (two-story home, same square footage) also for $8,000.
I do not trust this company. I will not ever be calling them again.
Ripoff diagnosis of a simple matter to a huge job with a huge bill. Avoid at all cost.
I had a really great experience with Radiant! I had a clog in my drain and they were able to come out the same day and fix it. My technician was Grant who explained the problem to me and told me how he was going to fix it.
He did a great job! I will definitely call Radiant again. Worst experience I ever had with an air conditioning company .
It took them a whole week to repair a new system they installed . Their management team never stepped in and made it right .
If anyone is considering using Radiant send me DM I can share pics and text from their poor installation. They also have plenty of bad reviews so do your homework .
Radiant installed a new unit today and I want to say thank you. My old unit was burned out, I called on Tuesday, they sent Bryan out immediately he checked out what the problem was, now back in April they helped repair an already 23 year old unit in my mobile home, he advised me he could repair the same problem they had fixed in April but my inside unit was burning out the outside unit or could replace the complete unit.
I'm tired of investing money in temporary fixes so I agreed to finance a new AC. Radiant had to order the unit and said it will arrive on Thursday, it did and even with rain the techs arrived early and installed everything.
The techs were Arturo and Rene and they were amazing. Arturo kept me up on what was done and kept asking if I had any questions.
They were very courteous, and mindful of my home. So a big thank you and keep up being the techs that I saw today.
Disappointed with customer service. Had them out twice to work on my rental property.
Both times I was texting questions about the service and getting replies at all was hit and miss. They finally just ghosted me.
Service is also very expensive compared to Strategic Air who I hired to actually do the work, both times. Strategic saved THOUSANDS!! Radiant plumbing charged us 9000 dollars to inspect the drainage issue at our 4Plx apartment and 20000 dollars more to fix it since it needs to be "repiped" But we hired another company and they only charged us 400 dollars without the need of repipe Their price is ridiculous and we will be filing complaints for sure for malpractice and fraud!! Radiant is downright terrible and full on rip off artist easily at least 2x-4x (or more) what a regular job should cost.
A recent experience: I asked for a quote to replace 2 rubber gaskets between the tank and base of my downstairs toilet where it was slowly leaking. I was told: (1) they could not do a 'partial repair' and offer any kind of safeguard or warranty for the work done - they could only do that for a FULL replacement - so he said he needed to replace the full toilet.
(2) that the ceramic of my tank for my toilet was comprised and I could and should expect more leaks soon. (3) and he quoted me $1700 to replace the toilet.
BUT WAIT - if I did both my toilets, I could get a discount and both for $2500! So I told him to please leave, called a reputable plumber and has them replace the 2 gaskets for $75. Absolutely ridiculous and will never all them again.
I was on 620 yesterday attempting to change lanes. With plenty of room I turned my signal on when a Radiant Plumbing driver accelerated in an attempt not to let me in.
As I merged into other lane he continued to accelerate getting even closer and blasting his horn and flipping me off. Guess he forgot he was representing his employer and let his imperfect day take over his emotions.
This is not Texas friendly, courteous or defensive driving. 2:00 620 near Hudson bend road headed toward Mansfield dam.
I will never call Radiant plumbing for any reason. So we got a brand spanking new AC from these guys 4 years ago and apparently we got on the AC subscription service because they have to come out every year to clean out this totally unnecessary pump they installed during an AC outage.
After the last straw today (when the tech told me I needed to pour water down the AC hose daily to avoid a $1700 replacement), I had Stan's come out fora second opinion and was floored to find out ALL the BS we've been hearing from Radiant for the past 4 years. Do better, y'all.
Update: Nicole's little comment below is BULLSHIT, by the way. The issue has not been handled.
They gave us a small refund after we discovered they charged us for a load of "services" they didn't actually perform. We are still extremely upset and honestly just shocked.
Now my dad puts signs up in our neighborhood to warn neighbors not to use Radiant. They business they've already lost costs way more than just doing the right thing, but they can't seem to stomach being honest for some reason ?.
------------------------ Dishonest about pricing. Charged $17k for a service our neighbors received from them for $7K.
They refuse to give an itemized receipt for labor/costs. We are extremely disappointed, because we are trusting people we never thought something like this would happen with a local Texas business.
$10k is a lot of money to steal from kind people in your neighborhood :(. Spent close to $100,000 with Radiant to get them to replace all 5 a/c zones in my home a year or two ago.
Have started having issues with clogged condensation lines and poorly operating units. Greatest frustration is that they have no after hours / off hours emerg service ( EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIM TO IN THEIR ADVERTISING) and when they do eventually show up, it's with a poorly trained technician with no experience in my home.
VERY poor resu and experience with this company Asinine new billing process. Pretty much just texted customers saying they were going to start charging monthly.
Because of issues with my last service was credited $50. It does not make sense to charge monthly for a service provided quarterly at best.
They no longer have a way to pay up front. That would be great if billing was correct, but my credit has yet to be honored and on top of that the wrong card was charged.
The problematic new billing is making me regret being a customer. You are NOT a monthly fee and at best you should give customers the options to choose.
I've never in my life had to argue with someone to pay for my services in full. And CR manager could not even resolve.
I just want to pay in full and receive my credit. Beyond this, it is known that other customers want to pay up front.
Please fix this ridiculous process Radiant, as this is making me not want to do business with y'all. For whatever it's worth.
------------------ Update: The one chance I did have to talk to a manager she said and I quote "if I do it for you I have to do it for everybody". Which tells me other folks preferred the pay up front option too.
Ridiculous when management actually resolves less than the standard advisor. And the way Radiant "resolved" this was to leave me a voicemail while I was in meetings, stating they couldn't do anything, and then ended up cancelling my services, with no further discussion or confirmation, so I'm sure if I'd answered that would have been the case as well.
Then they tell me to contact back but when calling it never goes through. So it appears they blocked my number as well, as I guess they realize nobody has the ability to discuss or provide a resolution.
Very unprofessional and don't think that they ever "value you as a customer". So when you see those commercials and go it seems a bit silly and unprofessional, you are correct, but speaks clearly to their business model.
Their saving grace on the reviews and the business is their techs. Look really closely bc when you get into billing or customer service it is exactly that, silly and unprofessional.
Fast responses, but price gouging and if you ever have to call customer service, I'll pray for you. Also never got that credit for the last billing mishap.
So just when you think they can't be any worse....they are! Good riddance, a major headache avoided. I type this in hopes that others learn from my experience.
Thanks Friendly technician. I would never recommend this company because their prices are outrageous.
They quoted me over $1200 to switch out a kitchen faucet, just that. I'd already paid separately for the service call/ diagnostic.
I almost fell off my chair. They sure are proud of their faucets.
Shane worked with me to help resolve our water softener situation. He was pleasant to be around, and even gave us his number to give my husband helpful plumbing instructions.
I have been a Radiant customer for the better part of 8 years, but after my last two experiences I can't continue recommending them. I have 2 AC systems in my house (a two ton system and a three ton system) both are 6 years old.
They replaced the evap coil in the 2 ton system ($6200), and checked the 3 ton system. No issues on the 3 ton, and everything looked good.
Weeks later the 3 ton system goes down. I called Radiant, and low and behold they want another $6k+ after telling me the system was fine with no issues just weeks later.
I reached out to get a second opinion from another HVAC repair company (that has a very high Yelp review) and the quote I received was significantly less for more work ($3800). When I expressed my concern to the very hardworking customer service rep (Tabitha), she said the best they could do was a 5% discount.
I understand that during the hottest Summer on record in Austin that owning an HVAC company is a license to print money, but taking advantage of your existing long term customer for a short term gain is unethical and a poor business model. The techs (Jasper and Nasser) are friendly and clean, but they charge 40% more than others in the industry and you may have issues after they tell you everything looks good.
Nicole and Tabitha the customer service reps respond quickly and care about their customers. The HVAC management team does not care, and set policies that are actively losing them business.
Bottom line, get a second quote. It would have saved me $2400 and hours of aggravation.
Trust the online reviews and go with someone who cares about their customers. Avoided either a scam or the mistake of an incompetent technician...
While I used to live in Austin, I have since moved and am a remote landlord, renting out the townhouse I had purchased. About a month ago there was a leak in the ceiling, so my property manager sent Radiant to investigate.
They cleared the primary drain line, which solved the problem. The technician also said I needed a full primary drain pan and float switch replacement for upwards of $1,100.
I sent a competing company (with much higher ratings) to investigate the situation, and they determined the drain pain and float switch replacements were completely unnecessary. I would have paid $1,100 for nothing...
Glad I didn't fall for Radiant's mistake, whether intentional or not. I hired Radiant to find the incoming water pipe on our property.
After making an honest effort, he said, "I can't find it. That'll be $200" Incredulous, I called Radiant later and the Technician confirmed this was their policy.
It seems that failure to accomplish the stated goal is still a billable service. I hope your experience is different, but if you have a leak and they can't find it, you might just want to keep your credit card out.
I used to love radiant...but the past couple of times I had them out I was incredibly disappointed. We had just had our house painted & decided to get our hvac system cleaned.
They messed up our walls with the equipment & we ended up having to get everything retouched up. The lack of respect for myself & my house was unacceptable.
Not professional & very expensive. I only gave 1 star because I'm not able to do They ridiculously overcharge.
I had the small tower part in my toilet replaced. Took him 5 minutes.
Par costs maybe $10-20 at Home Depot. They charged me $450.
Do not use EVER. Regrettably, I cannot in good conscience recommend Radiant HVAC to anyone.
I recently had an unfortunate experience with Radiant that I feel compelled to share. In 2020, I invested $12,200 in what I believed to be a reputable HVAC system--a 3.5 ton Goodman GSX16 condenser and furnace.
This hefty sum was supposed to include two years of tune-up and service, a promise that unfortunately went unfulfilled as no one from Radiant ever showed up. 24 months post-installation, the condensation pan overflowed, resulting in significant damage to my ceiling drywall.
Investigation revealed that insulation, installed by Radiant contractors, was the culprit. Radiant came to review the issue but refused to repair the drywall.
Even more disheartening was my realization that I had likely been grossly overcharged for the system. Despite expressing my desire for a fair-priced, mid-range HVAC system, I ended up with a product from Goodman, a brand notorious for its lackluster industry reputation, retailing at a fraction of what I paid.
What's more, Radiant attempted to justify the exorbitant price tag by claiming they conducted a 'heat load calculation', insisting that other companies merely guess on square footage and would have sized my system incorrectly. This assertion is not only distasteful but implies that no other company can accurately size an HVAC unit--a claim I find dubious at best.
When I raised my concerns with a Radiant sales leader, I was met with dismissiveness and a refusal to acknowledge any wrongdoing on their part. It became apparent to me that Radiant lacks transparency in their pricing structure, seemingly charging customers whatever they deem acceptable.
I've always been wary of pushy sales tactics, and this experience reaffirmed my apprehensions. Trust is paramount when it comes to choosing a service provider, especially in vulnerable situations like being without A/C.
To add insult to injury, I found a leak in my coil line. The absolute worst company I have ever dealt with.
3 yrs ago we had them install two a/c units in our home. Both Goodman units.
Both units have failed. One failed immediately and had it replaced with a Trane unit.
The other unit's compressor failed a few weeks ago. It's still under warranty but of course the labor is not.
These idiots want 3,000 dollars to fix. We have paid over 27k for the two units.
I don't blame the manufacturer, I blame radiant for a shitty install. It's all about installing them correctly.
Please stay away from this company. Customer service is horrible and they really don't give a shit.
Horrible Horrible Service. If i could do 0 stars i would.
Had a service team come out on Wednesday night because our A/C was not blowing cold air, they came out that night and told us we would need an entire new system. Came out friday to install took the entire 10 hours.
A/C was blowing cold then come Saturday it was hot wasn't blowing air at all. Radiant comes out, they end up flushing a line to try and get the A/C to come out cold it ends up working then Sunday our upstairs bathroom that is right by our attic (where the A/C is located) completly flooded started at the ceiling and water kept flowing from their and the walls.
We weren't even home when the upstairs flooded. All because they blew out a line and didn't check to see if anything was leaking before they left.
I can not stress enough how no one should EVER use this company. You will be in tears by the time these ppl are done with your unit or plumbing for that matter.
Guy who came didn't even inspect the water heater issue, just said warranty was over likely needs to be replaced. He went straight to try to sell me an 11k system and a membership of some sort.
We went with a small business and the changed the water heater in 1 day for $900 and did a great job! I hate being upsold Over the years, we have laughed and simultaneously cringed at their commercials, but they are have always been entertaining. Apparently, they have reached a worldwide audience to include John Oliver whom we watch almost daily.
We moved into a new house and had issues with our brand new Toto toilet. After checking with trusted friends, we decided to give Radiant a try.
When I called, the receptionist was extremely friendly and I was thrilled to discover they would be able to send a technician the next day! Upon receiving my confirmation text, they also provided me with some fun facts about my technician Selso, who happens to like sand volleyball amongst other things. Honestly, we couldn't help but laugh because the fun facts were definitely entertaining.
Selso was amazing. Not only did he fix our toilet in record time, but prior to his arrival, my garbage disposal started to act up and he actually took care of it while he was there! I was so thrilled as most technicians would never think to go above a beyond, would only fix what was written on the service agreement and would make you call to schedule another service call.
I could not have asked for a better technician and company. Thank you Radiant and thank you Selso for your hard work and commitment to providing top notch customer service! I used Radiant to replace a new HVAC and water heater.
All the return vents needed to be replaced which meant a handyman through Radiant would be sent out later. Tim the Handyman did an exceptional job withe the replacement.
I highly suggest him. Thanks Tim the Handyman! Look out for Radiant, Jude Gonzales gave me 5 quotes all charging $1000/hr.
One bid after I changed what I wanted where the work would have been under an hour, 20 min. The rate was still $975/hr!! On top of this they sent out two people for the job, and couldn't figure that out in their own system?!?! I alerted them about this and told them I just got two text messages that two technicians are on there way to my house.
Is this a mistake? Their message was, sorry it must be a glitch, please disregard the second one. Yet one arrived after the first left.
? Run from this company complete idiots. Austin Energy detected a large leak at my house while I was away on vacation.
They shut off the water and told me to call a plumber to evaluate leak and fix. Called Radiant and they sent a person out and said it would cost me around $6000 to fix issues.
I didn't have much choice since I was gone and didn't want any further damage, I agreed. Long story, short.
The leak was in my irrigation system, which they didn't tell me until after deciding I needed ton of other stuff done that had nothing to do with the leak. They thought they'd be nice and refund me $1,000.
So basically I paid them $5,000 for work i didn't need. As well, they have refused to send me a detailed receipt outlining everything they did with a corresponding cost.
Which my insurance company requires. So basically a horrible experience made much worse by the folks at Radiant.
High responsiveness, low value. Repair (replacement of a subordinate tube [pinhole leak]) elicited a technician-claimed need to replace all faucet and drain hardware for two sinks due to non-availability of a very basic replacement part.
Tech was not able/willing to craft a replacement part despite being a certified journeyman plumber; which ratcheted up the cost of "repair" by an order of magnitude. Highly profitable visit for Reliant (and technician).
We were in a tight spot due to family events and the service provider took advantage. No further business going towards this provider.
So I was visited by Radiant for an estimate on replacement of a furnace and the door was inadvertently scratched in two places when the ladder was accessed. Radiant sent their carpentry person Tim the Tool Man to fix it and that's exactly what he did.
I can't even tell that it was previously scratched at all, it's like new. He meticulously filled, sanded, crafted/created the same grooves in the door pattern and then painted it.
It is definitely an art to what he did. Like I said, you can't even tell it was scratched.
Also as a courtesy he even painted the doorframe. He then went the extra mile to scan the paint on my walls to let me know what paint to buy in the future should the need arise.
Tim The Tool Man did a great job and definitely went above and beyond with customer support and service. Friendly service, provided handy information for future issues.
Technician appeared knowledgeable regarding his craft. My wife and I had Radiant come to home for a leak repair on a pipe between our garage and kitchen.
To allow easy access we authorized the tech to directly access the pipe through our kitchen wall cutting the sheetrock. The repair included two elbow joints and 11 inches of pipe and was straight forward and quick.
The charge was $938. We strongly believe due to the urgency(no hot water) and my unavoidable absence due to work travel, that Radiant price gouged for this repair.
We would strongly recommend not using Radiant for any urgent plumbing need due to this reason. Had them come to our rental property to install new kitchen faucet.
The faucet was in the home upon arrival. First we get a call saying the faucet is not the right fit.
The idiot that was there was trying to sell my tenant another faucet from him for $450 up to $1000. We ordered the Kohler faucet off Amazon for $187 and it was exactly the right one.
Then needed hot and cold water valve replaced. The valve was also sent from Amazon.
Technician said it was the wrong valve (not true!) After finally replacing the old faucet with the new, and supplying their own valve, we were charge $667.42. Itemized bill was not provided.
These people are scammers! Reporting them to BBB They reached out to come do a "free" inspection of our HVAC system. As I'm sure most of should be aware by now, nothing in life is free so I should have known something was up.
Their technician Reid showed up and started his "inspection" which tripped our breakers serval times and made our thermostat act pretty weird but i assumed this was all par for the course (it wasn't, as this has never happened any time our regular HVAC guy does his inspection). Once he was done, he began explain to me in a words he knew I wouldn't understand why our options are to pay upwards of $17,000 to repair our system OR just buy a whole new system all together which could cost between 10-22k.
Both my wife and I weren't convinced, since Reid was quite pushy and didn't seem genuine at all (snake oil salesman) so we called our usual HVAC guy from Lakeway Heating and Air for a second opinion. When the technician from Lakeway Heating and Air inspected our system he noticed Reid from Radiant had left all of caps off of our system and the page long explanation as to why we needed to pay them 17 grand was complete bull.
Our tech then told us that our system would work fine for the time being but was quite outdated. We opted to replace our HVAC system with Lakeway Heating & Air because of how transparent and trustworthy they've been for us, for about half of what Radiant quoted us.
I strongly believe Radiant sends out their technicians for these bogus "free" inspections for the sole purpose of scaring you into paying for their highly overpriced and subpar services. I'm also pretty sure the Radiant tech might have purposefully been negligent when checking our system as to guarantee it would fail because, as stated above, he had left off all the caps and ever since he's inspected it it has not been working as it used to.
I'll take the blame for assuming they wanted to come inspect my HVAC out of the goodness of their hearts but I would advise people to be weary of these guys, I don't trust they have good intentions whatsoever. We recently had a leak in our hvac system and Radiant sent Tim "the tool man" Ferguson out to fix the damage on the ceiling.
Tim is nothing short of a magician; he is the gold standard for repairs. He was so thorough and worked diligently to make sure the repair was done well.
I'm in awe of how he was able to fix the damage caused by the leak! After he was done, there was no sign there had been damage there, at all. Tim is a treasure and I'll be sure to stick with Radiant, just for his great work! Don't let the cute ads fool you.
Radiant does NOT charge by the hour. All their services are a-la carte.
That meant for me that to auger my toilet (after a guest clogged my toilet with plastic), it was a set price of 375$. BTW, the auger left a brown stain that needed a return visit when a magic eraser and serious scrubbing wouldn't suffice.
When the auger didn't work, the plumber removed the toilet and placed it in my bathtub (??) thus placing a large chip and some smaller ones into my refinished tub (see pic) in order to snake out the plastic. So what was the total cost for all this? A whopping 785$ plus a 159$ emergency visit fee for 2 (maybe 3) hours of work, using equipment from the truck.
Again, Radiant does NOT charge by the hour. Radiant is the only plumbing company I know that makes a lawyer seem like a bargain.
When the plumber returned to repair the brown auger stain and re-attach my bidet (long story there), he denied causing the chips in my tub even after I showed him, using the pic I took and a tape measure that the base of that tub impacted the exact spot where the big chip occurred. Instead, he showed me a pic of two smaller chips on my ledge from a pic that I believe was photographed on the day of his return (hmm ..upon your return?).
The plumber caused damage to my refinished tub by erroneously placing a heavy porcelain toilet over only a sheet of plastic in my tub. That was so wrong and it was a struggle for him to get the toilet into my tub.
I watched it and I should have stopped him there He says there were two chips already on the ledge? Really? I'm not so sure. But I do know he caused the chips in my tub.
From the a-la- carte price with no hourly rates, the auger stains and DENIAL of damage in my tub, Radiant truly sucked. We were able to get a same day plumbing appointment the day before Thanksgiving.
Without this appointment we wouldn't have been able to use our showers or toilets for 2 days. We were very pleased with our technician Billy Stavropoulos who was very helpful and kind with explaining the issue we were having and patiently answering all of our questions! We will definitely use radiant as our go-to plumbers from now on!! Off of Amazon I bought garbage disposal.
Called Radient to install it. Took maybe 45 minutes.
The bill was $500. They did give me a 25.
discount. Be aware of them.
I called to ask was that their real price. I thought maybe someone was padding the bill.
It was my fault as I (not thinking) signed. Be Careful and check out the estimates first.
On two occasions I have tried to schedule maintenance on a unit installed two years ago. Both times I was told they were not scheduling maintenance service.
It appears they want to only do installations and rake in the big bucks. I won't be bothering to try again, there are too many companies who are glad to have the business.
If you value service after the sale, look elsewhere for your AC installation. The guys from Radiant plumbing who fixed my tire and jack on their lunch break.
I tried to pay them but they wouldn't even take my money. They said in this heat they hoped someone would help their mom or sister.
They didn't even tell me their names like superheroes. God bless them.
With health issues in Texas summer heat, we desperately needed help on a Sunday. CJ with Radiant came to our rescue and got it repaired.
He ordered the necessary parts and told us what to expect within the year. He was professional and on time.
Thank you Radiant and CJ! RADIANT CONDUCTED ILLEGAL, UNPERMITTED WORK! RADIANT DID NOT INFORM US THAT THE WORK REQUIRED PERMITS! RADIANT IS AVOIDING ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE! We would have never agreed to allow Radiant to replace our ductwork if we had known that they were doing it illegally. Radiant, would you like to address why you did not acquire the legally required permits for the job we hired you for? The City of Austin has extremely strict permit laws and Radiant failed to acquire the legally required permits for the job we hired them for.
Radiant is avoiding addressing our questions about the permits and is only offering $1000 of the $11,697.15 we are owed. We gave Radiant multiple opportunities over several months to revisit and fix issues with their ductwork install in our house.
It was a nightmare to schedule any appointments, and none of the techs seemed to be fully aware of the situation when they arrived. After finding out Radiant's techs were doing illegal, clearly incorrect work, we stopped working with Radiant and hired another company to finish the job and redo most of Radiant's work.
We spoke with an Austin City Inspector who confirmed that it was/is illegal for Radiant to conduct unpermitted work, and, after reviewing photos of the work, the inspector confirmed Radiant's work on our house was done incorrectly and would not pass an inspection. We informed Radiant's Customer Relations Specialist, Nicole, that their work was done without a permit and that it was incorrectly done, and we provided pictures of the incompetent and incomplete work.
The HVAC Operations Director Ken Price responded by sending us their revised version of the timeline that ignored most of the issues we reported to them, and offered us a 9% refund as an apology without even acknowledging the unpermitted work. The attached photos show Radiant's shoddy, illegal work.
The attached screenshot from Austin's public online permit search shows all permits opened for our address over the time we had Radiant work at our house, which includes a permit from the company who fixed Radiant's work, but not a permit from Radiant. The attached email screenshot shows the HVAC Operations Director's summary of the issues in a response to us, which does not even acknowledge the lack of permits or their blatantly incorrect work.
It also shows him ignoring our entire nightmare experience with Radiant to only admit to a couple of scheduling errors. Don't hire Radiant, unless you're looking for illegal work with unacceptable results and no accountability.
We had an emergency sewage problem, and it revealed a cascade of issues. The technicians responded promptly and were great at communicating and walking us through the process.
Every single technician that helped us was amazing, but Gunner went above and beyond. He fixed our dripping outdoor hose bib as he noticed it was leaking.
It was small but the gesture went a long way. We have used radiant in the past at our previous property and will continue to use them (hopefully not for a long time!) Tim "The Tool Man" was great!!! He came and fixed everything that was damaged during the installation of our HVAC system.
Once he was finished the area looked as though it had never been disturbed. He also cleaned up a lot of debris that was left over by the installers.
Thanks again Tim for doing an amazing job!! Radiant's service has been a complete disaster. For $11,697.15, over the course of 8 months (March-November), they were out to our house at least 8 times and still left us with a broken system.
We finally got an opinion from 2 other companies who inspected our ducts and were shocked at the horrible job Radiant did. Examples of issues include a 3-ft hole that blew open above our indoor unit through the seal they made, several unsealed ducts, ducts daisy-chained together, giant gaps, and none of the buckets or plenums sealed (see photos).
Here's the full timeline: * 3/21-3/30: Initial interactions | Radiant provided us options to fix our system that wasn't cooling our bedroom. We opted to replace the attic ductwork and install a 2-zone system.
* 4/9: Install | The installation techs worked late into the evening. The later it got, the more frantic phone calls I overheard from the techs saying they didn't know it was a "2-day job" and they didn't have enough people.
As it got later in the evening, they told me they would need to come back another day to finish. * 4/12: Install pt 2 | They finished the install, and left large holes in our walls, trim, and closet, explaining a separate a handyman would come out in a separate visit to fix these up.
* 4/15-5/10: Handyman follow-up | I had to follow-up with them to schedule a handyman, and they scheduled for 4/25. I got a call late on 4/25 saying they had to cancel.
They re-scheduled for the next available date on 5/11. As it started getting hotter and I started seeing bugs in my house, I also realized they never closed the attic access and had just left a giant hole up to our attic for several weeks.
I called to complain, and they gave me 2 free tune-up visits on my account. * 5/11: Handyman repairs | The handyman repairs are finally completed a month after the install is done.
They did a decent job patching up. * 9/9-9/10: Radiant criticizes their own work | We scheduled our first tune-up visit that was credited to our account.
On that visit, we complained about some air leakage issues we noticed, and the tech recommended another specialist should come out who could give us a better idea. We later found in a recounting of events from the HVAC Operations director that this tech was sent to upcharge us on a separate leakage test.
This second tech came out and looked at our system and said that the ducts in the attic were not looking to be in good shape, and there were large gaps and it looked like some things were not installed correctly. When we told him Radiant installed those ducts, he seemed surprised and asked if Radiant did a quality inspection (they did).
He said he'd have Radiant follow up with us to schedule an appointment to fix the issues. * 9/11-10/28: Following up | I did not hear back about the fixes, and had to call Radiant twice to get something scheduled.
The first time, I was transferred between 3 different people, and the third ended up telling me they'd reach out to me to schedule something. They didn't.
When I called a second time on 10/28, they scheduled an appointment during that phone call for 11/3 * 11/3: Radiant's final visit | The tech came out to fix the system. When he was done, he said he did the best he could to fill any gaps, but it was tough because the area was tight up there and he couldn't completely seal everything, but it should be good enough.
* 12/23-today: We started having trouble with our heat as the temperature dropped on 12/23. Another company came to give a diagnosis.
Before even telling them about the work Radiant did, they said the ducts were a mess (see list at the beginning of this review). We called another company who said the same things.
They said things such as "I've never seen this in my 20 years in the industry," and "Radiant totally f*ed this guy" (overheard on one of our cameras when they were calling back to HQ). Now, another company is redoing everything.
I deeply regret hiring Radiant, and I regret not calling someone else sooner. I hope this review saves someone else from what we had to go through.
I thought I had a clogged toilet that I couldn't fix (toddler learning to wipe...) and called for service. After the serviceman simply turned on the faucet to my bath he promptly gave me two options of $450 or $1100 to unclog the toilet.
I told him that was ridiculous and found that a hose simply needed adjusting in the tank. That would have taken two seconds and I would have felt stupid but paid the $90 service fee but he didn't even check the toilet before trying to charge me.
Never used their services but their drivers could use some work. Cut me off at MLK and Lamar.
Our AC went out in the height of summer in Austin when the temps were over 100 every day, which means ALL AC repair companies were incredibly busy. We are not unreasonable people, we understand that.
So we made an appointment three weeks out and decided to get out of town in the meantime while we waited for our AC repair appointment.
