Review and analyze now for company Blake Brothers and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Expensive Fish-tape! So not worth it for my permanent home in ALABAMA! Let me begin by stating what a fish-tape is: Fish tape is a tool used by electricians primarily for pulling electrical or other wires through conduits. It's also used for pulling NM wire through walls, ceilings, floors, and other enclosed spaces.
The fish tape itself is a long, stiff, flat steel wire. For a stated 3.0 hrs.
of total work and $452.00 paid to Blake Brothers, all I received was my own cable cut with neither end made up routed through an existing hole through the wood stud in the wall that I was not able to get my tape through initially. I am not displeased with the technicians work as they did fine.
The problem is the exorbitant cost for the service that was performed. Initially, they quoted me over $734.00 for 3.5 hours' worth of labor and a new route with new holes to be cut in roughly 1.5- 2" of header beam.
Upon completion of the job, I spoke with Franco (elec. Technician), and he stated that the job was much EASIER than initially quoted as they utilized the very same wire route and hole in the stud wall because they were successful in getting their fish tape through it! This was the very same chase or hole that I gave up on.
In summary, they expended just enough effort to not cut any new openings or run new cable routes, they utilized the same route because they were successful in getting their fish tape through an existing opening, they utilized a cable I provided and tested it, but they did not make up either end of the cable and the wall outlet is still not assembled because Blake brothers technicians do not make up the ends. All that for the price above.
I tried contacting Blake Brothers Management and left a message for Blake brothers to contact me with both Franco and Whitney (separate days). Whitney explained to me that Steve (MGR) was in a meeting with Franco this morning discussing "things" and would leave a message with Steve Saltsman to contact me back.
Well, as of this writing, I have yet to receive any contact back from Blake Brothers. You know that if I could give a rating of ZERO stars, that is what it would be for the unreasonable pricing for services rendered.
All that circumvents any positive ratings I would have to give to the technicians' competence and capability. In Franco's defense, he is not responsible for pricing...
he just pushes the COMPANY's objectives. He did say I could discuss the pricing with management...
And thus, this is my review of Blake Brothers. I've included a copy of my Blake Brothers Invoice as proof for the exorbitant money I paid for services rendered and hoping you folks will not be DUPED into making a similar mistake with this company.
I wish I was there to deal with both TECHNICIANS personally as everything was handled via mobile. Please do not confuse Blake Brothers with H.C.
Blake Co. Inc.
They are two totally different companies. H.C Blake is a construction company.
Blake Brothers is a service company that has licensed the use of the Blake name. As a property mgr and owner of homes in Huntsville area these guys are great for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical which is great to get 3 things done by one company.
They have good scheduling, text messaging on arrival times, and follow up on what is the problem prior to fixing and charging. Would give them 5 stars but their pricing is high compared to the other services I have used over the last 5 years.
Added what seemed to me were bogus charges that increased the estimate by over 30%. They did not seem to care.
I paid the bill but will not use them again. Be very alert to their "flat rate".
They installed the wrong water heater using the "flat rate" which cost me $2762. Their reasons were "misspoken words" by their representative.
Paid the fee to get estimate $119. Estimate was WAY too expensive $1000 to fix a 3/4 inch pvc line.
I said no way! and fixed it myself for $25 in parts. Took me 45min.
What happened to honest estimates that relate to actual work required. Total rip off! The tech had no idea what to do.
He spent 2 hours at my house and did nothing other than try to up sale me on a membership and upgrades to my electrical panel, which did not need to be done. He said he had to go "talk to his friends" about how to move a simple switch plate (30 minutes).
I called the customer service line three times and they were no help. They said a manager would call me back, but he never did.
After all of this, I was ready to pay the $120 service call so the tech would get out of my house! I purchased a terrible old house that needed a ton of work, Blake Brothers has already come in and replaced all my old cast iron plumbing, hvac unit, and all my ducting. Not only were they fast (replaced all my plumbing in under three days) they are efficient, I went through my crawlspace and checked their work everything looks great.
Additionally I had them come back out move my sink drain during a kitchen renovation, they took one look at it and said "we should've changed this when we were here the first time" and covered it under warranty. They may not be the cheapest but the quality of work they do is first rate and worth it! We moved from Franklin, TN this summer and have been relying on Blake Brothers to help with just about every issue that has come up with our new home (there are have been so many!).
Today the tech, Chris Davis, came to rebuild the inside of two of our toilets, he was professional and efficient. He arrived on time, finished the work quickly, and checked to see if there was anything else I needed.
Chris was great and I highly recommend Blake Brothers for your plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC needs. It's on the pricier end, but service comes with a warranty.
Also, service came with an actual person. Blake Brothers were actually able both show up and do phenomenal work in both instances I have used their services.
I'd give the company 5 stars if they'd come down on their price. I understand they have a monopoly in the sense that others just won't show up, but I hardly consider that reason to charge almost double the national average.
Make of this what you will We needed an HVAC system installed in our new sunroom. We had seen several Blake Bros.
trucks servicing neighbors in our HOA. We were able to schedule a consultation for the very next day and signed a contract.
The representative that came was prompt, professional, informative and friendly. Their rates were affordable, and they offer financing options.
The job was scheduled for early the following week and completed within one work day. The two gentlemen that came to complete the job were also friendly, worked efficiently and cleaned up afterwards! We highly recommend Blake Brothers! Ronald D.
Did not do right by me. Response time was good, charged me $742 for service call, drain the line and add refrigerant.
Temp went up by 4 degrees and interior humidity went up 9% after they left. Another tech came out .
Waiting to see how much more they want to fix the issue - HVAC is 6 years old. they do not give free estimates.
do not use this company. im not paying $119 to have someone take a quick peek at the work that needs doing.
that is the cost of doing business. im a contractor but i called as the homeowner to see if they were charging people a fee.
They are. Its a dirty business practice.
I tried to have them come out and fix light bulbs and fixtures in our club house. They took my info and said they would set up an appointment.
They called later the next day and said they wouldn't be able to help me. What kind of electrician can't fix light bulbs and a simple light fixture.
I guess they don't need the money. I was extremely surprised.
Definitely going to go to a more reputable company. This company jerked me around for three days.
They didn't return phone calls when they said they would, didn't send out a plumber when they said they would, and were all-around unprofessional. ? Our technician, Rod, was great! He was professional and not pushy.
He did an excellent and thorough job cleaning and inspecting our fireplace. The communication from the front office was great as well.
We were given a window of time he would arrive, but then received a call and email when he was in his way. Very professional.
We will definitely use H.C. Blake in the future.
Customer service on the call was very professional and provided a Technician would text when he was on his way TODAY. When I called to check on a time, I was told they will check on me on Monday.
Bad business when I have no water. Our HVAC was not working correctly so I called Blake Brothers after reading reviews on Google.
I wanted the $149 one time tune up promotion that they were offering at the time. The lady asked if I would be interested in a membership to get spring and fall maintenance check for $99.
I told her that I was not sure because I needed someone to more than likely "tune-up" my unit since it had never been serviced since we moved into the house - new - 6.5 years ago. I also mentioned that I didn't think it was cooling like it should.
She said that was no problem, she would just make a note of it for the tech. Made the appointment for a Friday 10 - 2.
I called that Friday morning to confirm my appointment. The lady said that the appointment had been moved to 1 - 5.
I told her that no one had notified me and that the move was unacceptable because of plans that afternoon. She said she would "work something out".
I received a text message at approximately 9:30 that the time had been changed back to 10 - 2. The tech arrived at 11:30.
After spending one hour going outside, up to the attic, then back downstairs, he informed me that he had left some of the tools he needed at his last job and would be right back afternoon picking them up. One hour went by and he returned.
Another hour went by and he provided me with the estimates. The unit was very low of Freon and to find the leak, someone would have to come back and it would cost $517 just to find the leak!! Then an estimate on the repairs without a part that may be needed was $1800.
The tech then proceeded to tell me there was a $99 diagnostic fee for the day. He also stated that he heard multiple noises coming from all different areas of the system and that we would more than likely need a new unit and asked one of their people that take care of new units to come over.
At 3:00 on Friday afternoon. I had already told him and the dispatcher that I had a graduation party for my son and had to be there at 5.
Everything that I needed to get down Friday afternoon was not done because the tech was there for 3 hours doing absolutely nothing, I told him t hat no one could come that afternoon. We mentioned this horrible day to a friend who knew some HVAC repair people.
They came over the following Saturday morning. They found the Freon leak in 15 minutes for $75.
The entire repair was less than what Blake Brothers was going to charge us for just coming to find the leak. I will never recommend them to anyone and will post this review everywhere possible.
AC had an issue - turned out to be a bad dual capacitor. Cost me $99 for them to come out and diagnose the issue.
To repair the issue I was offered a quote for an additional $115 labor and $485 for the capacitor. I said no thanks and went to the local appliance repair store and purchased the EXACT same proposed capacitor for $18.
I don't mind paying a markup on parts but this was a total rip-off - $485 compared to actual $18. Highest priced outfit in North Alabama.
Just way too over the top with the quote. Got the job done for $1800 less.
Jeez. So reliable and so very friendly.
Matt and Tyler worked all day at my house to fix all of our plumbing. From toilets to sinks, they fixed it all and with smiles on their faces.
A big thank you for your service. Will definitely request those two again.
We bought an old house that needed some plumbing and electrical work urgently. H.C.
Blake was responsive, offered us a range of price option, and was able to complete the jobs quickly. I will plan on using them again for future work.
We had an issue and the Tech seemed to not only be incompetent but he also didn't want to complete our repair. The overall experience was unprofessional and disappointing to say the least.
We did not feel comfortable and sent him on his way We had a dishwasher delivered, and the company informed me at the time of delivery that they do not install or remove dishwashers. Needing these services, I called Blake Brothers.
To their credit, they were extremely responsive and said they could install the same day. The technicians arrived later that day, very nice.
After about 30 minutes, they realized they could not complete the install and would require an electrician from their company. This dishwasher crew would still charge me $300 plus for basically sliding in the new dishwasher and hauling away my old.
When they carried my old one out of the house, they broke the brick on my front porch. Didn't seem to phase them.
The electrician is estimated to be $400 plus dollars. So I'm looking at over $700 to install a dishwasher.
I think this is highway robbery. I will pay because I need it done, but I won't ever call again.
National average for dishwasher install is $200, max end of the spectrum with more complicated electrical work might be $485. I am upset I went with Blake Brothers now, just too expensive.
Nice people, too costly. They dug up slab to fix pipe.
They left the whole open and the rubble behind. They still charged me for the unfinished job.
They also said they worked three hours but sat in their truck for one of them. After calling, a young technician showed up and spent about 15 minutes looking at our unit and then told us we needed a whole new HVAC unit as our old unit was not repairable.
(we couldn't afford a new unit at the time) We got a second opinion who stated we had a refrigerant leak. After the leaks were patched and new refrigerant was replaced we were good to go.
And that was over 10 years ago. do not do business with hc blake not only do they overcharge they lie.
they told us they would take off a line item for $240 for laminate since it had already been cut but even after not cutting anything they still charged us for it and would not take it off the invoice. they were also confused about applying for a permit.
they only did when forced to do so and charged us a lot extra to do it! good honest people. They might not be the cheapest but you can count on them to do what they say and fix it correctly.
Very unhappy with Blake Brothers. You pay a $99 diagnostic fee.
I knew that going in. Basically, they took one look at the leaky faucet, didn't even bend down to look at it, and declared they couldn't fix it.
Then they looked at the garbage disposal and announced that we would have to pay an electrician, another diagnostic fee, btw, to come out before they could install the garbage disposal. We explained that the reason we called them was that they advertised they did electrical and plumbing.
Nope, as far as they were concerned the electrical part was another company. I asked if they couldn't at least stop the leaky faucet and the answer I got was, "Maybe".
WTH does that mean. I knew we were in trouble when within 30 seconds of getting here they wanted to sale us a service plan for electrical, plumbing and heating/HVAC.
Really? I can honestly say I have never met a technician any less interested in doing the job than these 2. Service was not provided that was paid for, scheduling is problematic, and pressure sales pitch / overcharging on first air conditioning service call.
- Paid $358.80 for the plumbing and electrical service plan on 2-28-19. As of 9-26-19, HC Blake has not performed the plumbing inspection / service.
- Scheduling is problematic. In our experience, technicians either did not show up as originally scheduled or the front office called to reschedule, forcing us to readjust our work schedule for another day and time.
- On 5-10-19, HC Blake performed their first air conditioning routine service (as part of the electrical service plan). Our 2 x units are 8 years old; however, they have been serviced 2 x per year (spring and fall).
I received a call from the technician to advise that both units' pressure was out of tolerance and both units needed a capacitor. I was told that if I did not have them repaired they were going to fail and I would be charged for an emergency service call to "come back out to fix." After paying $590 to install two capacitors, I've discovered after research and discussing with other certified HVAC professionals, it is highly suspect and very unlikely that we actually needed two capacitors at the same time and all concurred that HC Blake's charge of $590 to install two capacitors was excessive, if not gouging.
Current and potential customers of HC Blake should be cautious of the low priced maintenance plans to lure customers into HC Blake's customer base. In our specific case, HC Blake made up for their low priced maintenance plans on one air conditioning service call.
Dylan was our professional. He came on time, analyzed the problems, told me the cost and went to work quickly and finished in a short amount of time.
The cost seems high but they are always there when I need them and do a good job. Jacob and Brandon were very nice, polite and answered all of my questions promptly.
They did a very thorough inspection and wore their maskS the entire time. They also made sure they had their coverings on their feet when they were going in and out of the house.
They found several items that need attention, and were very thorough in explaining the findings to me. However, some of those have been things done by another company.
I will be in touch with that company to get them fixed as they are responsible for the problems that were found. They were very understanding about this.
I have liked doing business with HC Blake. They have given me good service.
I've used HC Blake twice before for heating issues. Today, my AC died and my house was 85 degrees inside! Yikes!! Zac arrived and, within 45 minutes, my home was starting to cool.
Zac took time to do a thorough safety check and investigated the cause of my AC problem. He then let me know the results, explained my options and helped me decide the best way to resolve my AC issue.
Zac is very professional and knowledgeable! He answered all my questions before leaving and left me with informational pamphlets for other options I was interested in. Thanks Zac!!! Everyone I dealt with was very pleasant to deal with.
The service tech showed up on time. My only issues were that I felt like the technician was pushing a new unit do to the age of mine (15 years) and did not seem to want to diagnose the issue.
(Note: my unit was completely depleted of R22 freon.). I was given a quote for $1k to diagnose as all he wanted to do is recharge with expensive Freon (note: HC Blake's freon cost is twice other companies) and add dye.
I ended up calling a different company that charged the system with nitrogen and found the leak for much cheaper. I eventually did replace with that company for a 25% cheaper system cost (for a Train instead of Amana).
Terrible service and sneaky. They quoted me one price then charged me $300 more than the original quote.
When I challenged the charge they tried to tell me it was my fault and that I must not have heard the plumber correctly. Had to argue with them and get the run around for a week before they finally refunded me the money.
Don't use them! Way over priced and try to over charge you then act like its your fault. You can always count on HC Blake.
They are dependable, trustworthy, and honest. You can call them anytime and they will do their best to fit you in.
There is reason they have been around for so long. We've been using HC Blake since the purchase of our first home.
Competitive rates and always dependable service. This past month when our heat went out was no different! Love this small local company! About two weeks ago I had some plumbing repair work done at my home and was very pleased with the work performed.
The technician replaced a kitchen sink faucet. He was very courteous and professional in his dealings, and he also left the area where the work was done clean.
The price was reasonable. I appreciate the service rendered by this company.
John Branch HC Blake has been my go to for any plumbing or AC related needs for years. Their staff has always been friendly, professional, and arrived on time.
I've found their prices are extremely reasonable unlike some of the competition who quote one price and charge another. I would highly recommend them to anyone searching for a reliable and reasonable plumber.
Scheduled an appointment with them from 0900-1100. They called back that night and confirmed the appointment from 0900- 2 pm.
I took of from work to wait for them. At 330 pm they called an cancelled the appointment.
Told me to reschedule for another day. Gave them 1 star just for calling.
My daughter and her child were housesitting from out of town when the kitchen sink clogged. While the Blake technician was prompt and fixed the problem, the $275 + fee seems to be much too high.
We won't be using their services in the future. The service was prompt, the technicians were polite, professional and courteous.
Price was fair. Definitely recommend them'''.
