Did a new build in Los Altos and a gut remodel with them. The Los Altos build was complex with a sewage ejector pump system.

I have had two plumbers come but no fix. Finally I found United Plumbing.

They were very responsible, fast and professional. Alex spent a lot of time finding the matching part but it did not work.

They followed it through the next morning with new parts and fixed the problem quickly. They have an excellent team work and expertise.

Avoid At All Costs..... (this was also posted at Hague - Los Gatos) We sold our home in south San Jose, but before the title changed hands, we needed to get a permit for our water heater and water softener.

Who knew? Since the softener was originally installed by Hague shortly after our place was built in 2003, we called them. Too bad I didn't read my own advice from October 2017.

Long story short.....We mostly spoke with Kim in their Los Gatos office. However, the job appeared to be outsourced to United Plumbing Contractors in Campbell.

Cody, a nice and relatively young guy, came to our house at the appointed time and dealt with my wife since I was at work (although she called me with all big decisions). Listen to this: For the water softener to pass inspection and gain a permit, they claimed it needed to be vented from the garage (where it sat) through the roof.

That's 2 floors and an attic above the garage...at a cost of "a few thousand dollars". I told Cody to take the softener out.

There's more: For the water heater, Cody (or the person he was getting instructions from. He was on the phone many times with his home office), said we needed to attach a separate piece of equipment at a cost of "several hundred dollars".

"You need it to pass inspection". We're not plumbers so we said yes.

And more: At least a week after the work was done and bill paid, Kim said "Cody didn't have all the insulation needed for the water heater when he worked on it. He'll come by tomorrow.

Should only take 15 minutes". He came and charged $50 plus $10 for material.

Would it have cost less if he did it the first time? I wasn't even going to write a review, but we just had our final inspection. The verdict? Nothing needed to be done to the water heater to pass and get a permit.

The softener? To quote the inspector..."I've never heard of the need to vent through the roof. You had a perfectly good softener and now it's gone".

Maybe we misunderstood the recommendations, but isn't it better to play it safe? Go somewhere else. I was compelled to write this.

They wouldn't provide me with a written bid or quote. I was bullied, harassed, intimidated and disrespected by email and text.

I called office manager and owner and emailed the owner contractor.. I never received any acknowledgement.nor an apology for horrible treatment and experience.

They don't care about you as a customer. I would not recommend working with Troy Burchby.

They wanted to charge me over 700.00 above what the job was for. .

Always get your bid and work in writing. Just because they have a contract with Hague Quailty Water, doesn't mean you'll get quality work! We had United Plumbing Contractors (Hague Quality Water of Los Gatos) install our system many years ago and we have always "had" to use them because I didn't realize there was someone else to use instead.

I've had questionable service over the years. There are several problems with HQW of Los Gatos 1) Kim doesn't return phone calls in a timely manner.

2) They overcharge customers! This last time, I needed my unit serviced. I was told it was going to be over $500 for the RO filter changes, a check on the water softener and as well as a flush on the water heater (We just had our house repiped and I wanted it to all be working with the new pipes).

When Kim didn't return my calls, I looked on Yelp, and found a different authorized Hague dealer and called him. He returned my call in less than 2 hours, scheduled an appointment within days AND today, when they finished, my bill for the exact same thing was MUCH LESS! Won't be calling UPC ever again! Trust in UPC was waning, but now it's gone gone gone! UPC got to us through a call we made to our home warranty to replace the pressure valve.

they quoted up to $500 for us to pay out of pocket "to be safe since the job might include access work up to half a day". They ended up not needing to do all this access work.

the whole job took less than 1.5 hours. Nonetheless, they took advantage of my wife being home alone to wait for them and charged her almost $500 on top of the $300 the warranty paid.

I called and talked to Kim who promised to look into this and call me back "Monday". Never heard back.

I called 4-5 other times over a few weeks and left messages. Never heard back.

Their mailbox is now full and not even receiving new messages. Not sure if they went out of business or just ignoring their customers across the board now.

(I posted this review for Hague Quality Water as well, because I believe it's the same company that did the work described below) I have been impressed from the second I've been in touch with United Plumbing Contractors. We had a backup in our cleanup that they came out and diagnosed to be pipe misalignment at a connector (from a previous cleanout installation).

They were able to come out the next day to do the repair work (a LOT of digging) and did an outstanding job. Every single person I've dealt with at Hague has absolutely been phenomenal.

Kim, Christian, and Casey were friendly, prompt, explained everything I needed to know, and answered all of our questions. They've made a new customer for life.

Pete and the UPC team did all our custom plumbing for our kitchen remodel, bathroom addition and later, our utility room renovation. We were very pleased with the work.

Quick, professional, punctual, and fair prices. When we had a leak from our old galvanized pipes on the side of the house that was not updated, Pete came out the same day, crawled under our house and fixed the problem and with a fee that was way below what we expected.

When we had our reverse osmosis (RO) filter changed with Hague, there was a big leak all behind our cabinets and leaked through the floor and into the kitchen. Hague came after 4 calls or one call to Pete.

I'm still unclear if Hague Water Quality and UPC are the same company. We had another unrelated clog in the RO system and we texted Pete to have it looked at and he had Arthur out in an hour to repair it.

The RO system gives us the best tasting quality water with our highly mineralized tap water, but has given us more problems that we would like to deal with. Luckily UPC is very responsive, fixes the problems quickly, and with excellent customer service.

Excellent service today. Found leak in sink and fixed my faucet.

Arrived on time. Plumber was extremely nice and helpful.

I was very disappointed with their service. They over charged me even according to their written invoice.

They broke things. They promised to pay me back for the extra charges on the new service.

They said they would come and give me bid for the new service but they never came back. I went with another company for the new service after waiting for them call.

This is the same company as Steve Matlock Plumbing. I hired Steve to install a new toilet.

He installed the toilet and charged me $545, but the toilet started leaking after only two weeks. I called him at least 12 times over a period of 2 weeks.

He never returned my call, and Kim, his office person never returned my call either. Steve Matlock and United Plumbing Contractors do not stand behind their work! Never use this company! Pete is one smart plumber and will likely come up with solutions that you would not even have thought about.

Pete was brought to our kitchen remodeling project by Jared Lewis Construction. He assessed our project and made very fair recommendations like putting our RO system into our storage area under the house instead of under the sink.

That freed up space for the instant hot I wanted (by the way, Pete recommended that I not get an instant hot system as they don't have a long life span, which was confirmed by the store I purchased the system from... it's nice that he told me and let me make the ultimate decision about whether I wanted the system and it's later upkeep cost).

Pick United Plumbing and you will get great service and plumbers who know what they are doing! I used Pete to install a new bathroom sink (with new plumbing), and fix the inspection report findings. Pete knows what he is doing...

He is a super nice you too. I am glad we used Pete and will use him again :) There was a major leak in plastic fittings right before main water shutoff valve which threatened to become a major problem.

Pete found a way to rearrange his schedule, came and fixed it in a simple and efficient way. I am truly impressed and grateful.

Had a leaking water heater needing replacement 5 yrs into 6 yr warranty. Called the original installer who quoted close to the price of a new water heater to replace this under warranty.

Looked at other dealers for this AO Smith unit and found UPC. I called them and they were very helpful, making a service call and quickly getting me a fair quote for replacing the heater under warranty, no charge for the inspection visit as I agreed for them to do the job.

As soon as they got the replacement heater in, they came out, got the whole job done in 2 hours, doing a top job of cleaning up afterwards. Very polite and thorough, showing excellent craftmanship in the copper pipe sweating etc.

We had called them to replace a toilet valve. The guy came up and said I will charge you a 120 dollar "diagnostic" fee which was not disclosed.

When we raised issues, he made racist comments saying "you Arabs are always problematic" These comments are unacceptable even though I was not Arab so I sent the person promptly away. Do not deal with racist individuals $600 to unclog kitchen sink.

I'll buy a drain snake and do myself I had my sewer line replaced on Thanksgiving morning and I'm not happy with the process that we went through. they destroyed my yard with the machine they used to dig up the sewer line.

I told them that it's unacceptable with the way they backfilled the hole...today is January 28 2024 and my yard still looks like they dropped a bomb on it..bad enough they charged me 15,000 dollars and I can't even have my yard back the way it was. well I guess I will probably spend a few more thousand dollars on having a landscaping company fix what rotor rooter did...if anyone wants to see my yard before you hire them your welcome to see it.

please do not use them I would rather hire a blind excavator operator with not arms to dig my yard... I recently discovered sewage backing up into my basement (YUCK!), and not sure how long it had been happening before we noticed the smell.

Needless to say, I called Roto-Rooter. They had someone snake the pipe, and immediately give us a quote to clean up the disaster it had caused.

They also inspected the rest of the line with a camera incase there was anything else going on. Their cleanup crew were the true superstars- full hazmat suits working until 7:30pm...

and Roto-Rooter is dealing directly with the insurance company- so hopefully that helps streamline the process! We did have their plumber quote a separate but related steam pipe leak- but I decided to go with my local/regular plumber for that- at 1/2 the price! Roto-Rooter is amazing for messy, emergency projects, but I'll always prefer my local plumber for non-urgent issues. I worked with this company twice.

The first time in 2022 and again in 2023 for a plumbing issue. In 2022 I did not have the funds to complete the job so I delayed until 2023 .

I called them back thinking I would get the same or similar pricing. They more than doubled the price and had a hole in my basement for several days because I refused to finish the job with them after having the sales person up charge me.

Don't do it. Not a trustworthy company in my opinion.

Beware their charges, estimates and the attempt to exceed the necessary services. I called the service for a regular clogged sink and toilet, and the technician claimed we needed to remove the toilet for $1,600.

We knew that was BS, so we told him to try snaking it. He kept resisting, saying that it wouldn't work.

We insisted, and of course, it worked. And then he upcharged us like crazy for just snaking the toilet, even though when booking the appointment, they told us the visit itself wouldn't cost anything.

It took the technician less than 5 mins to unclogg. I never write reviews like this but I was genuinely terrified from my experience with Roto so I am going to share.

My toilet was clogged at night and I only have one bathroom so I had to call a plumber quickly. I called Roto and kept asking for a ball park quote but they would not give it to me.

After two hours they sent a plumber to my apartment and HE QUOTED ME $500. Ridiculous.

I negotiated it down to 300 but he kept trying to add additional charges / services that I TOLD HIM I DID NOT WANT. He also made me sign the invoice paper BEFORE he filled out the form / added the price and charges.

SO SKETCHY. As a woman alone in my apartment, I was terrified.

He was able to unclog my toilet with a machine quickly, but then he spent 15 minutes "filling out the invoice papers." When I finally got the bill he tried to only give me $100 off (which would make the service $400). That was NOT what we agreed on.

Finally he put the correct amount. Then, I told him my credit card number and the app he was using would not take my credit card, so I had to go get him cash at an ATM.

DO NOT USE ROTO. They are insanely overpriced scammers and extremely creepy especially if you are a woman alone in your apartment.

I am actually crying. I feel the pricing to have someone come out here to basically do nothing but tell me i needed another service was insane.

I called to see if there was something they could do to offset the $650 bill for 30 mins and they gave me a $20 off coupon. Lesson learned, people do your research before calling them.

They "snaked" my main line, $350, then i asked for a camera, they couldn't get use it because i needed another service where i was quoted $1250, and still charged for for the camera which he coudlnt "see" which was another $300. I just called another place and they said that was insane and they would have charged, if anything $300 to snake and take a look.

Had I not been in a rush, could have hired someone else for much much cheaper I called to have a leaking faucet fixed in my bathtub. When the representative showed up he wanted to tear out the whole wall.

I told him I didn't understand why they would have to rip out the wall as the research I did online said it was most likely the cartridge in the faucet handle. I got a second opinion and the new plumber fixed it in 20 minutes.

It went from a wall rip out to just changing a simple cartridge saving me a lot of time and money. I don't know what that particular plumbers experience was but he was definitely over selling the job.

We had a clogged sewer line so I called what I expected to be a reputable business - Roto-Rooter, but nothing could have been further than the truth. Called Friday (3/17/23) and they sent someone out immediately.

Guy comes in and after doing zero investigative work of any pipes says "we are going to need the jet guy to come out". Turns out this guy had limited experience, was not a tech, and had no authority to make that decision - more to come here.

Jet guy shows up by himself at 8pm and works his butt off trying to fix the problem. This guy I have no issue with because he had zero support, and clearly limited experience with no formal training.

$1,800 (yes, you read this right) charge. Next day same problem, so nothing was fixed and I'm out $1,800, so I called again.

Saturday (3/18) morning jet guy shows up first thing and tries to remedy the situation. Then what seems to be a closer called "camera guy" shows up around 10a and runs the camera through the line.

Camera guy immediate disclaimer: "I'm in the excavation end of the business so I don't know (or clearly take any responsibility for) what has happened here." Remember: same company. Really zero issue with the line except for a "root" about 16' out that seems to be blocking the line.

Camera runs over 100' with very little issue with the exception of this 'root'. Now comes the up-sell.

"Well, there is clearly a root issue in your line and I think you need to have the chain service to clear the line." Our iron line is 30' until you hit clay - the clay was completely clear and, but for the "root" and some accumulated sludge in the iron pipe, the line was clear. "That will be $100 per foot or $3,000 to clear just the iron line", says the camera guy.

WTF? You charged me $1,800 for nothing at this point and now you distance your business (excavation) from the other (jet guy) even though you are the same company? Nice. Quality service.

But it gets better... "But what I recommend is to excavate the pipe because it's clearly at issue or put in an outside trap...that will run you anywhere between $12k and 15K." say the camera guy.

Ok, I'm done with these guys. I get the bid for the line (chain) clear, get a copy of the video, and schedule service for Monday (3/20).

I immediately reach out to friends and family for professional recommendations and ultimately cancel Roto-Rooter. Professional recommendation comes in and snakes the line (this is important because IT WAS NEVER DONE BEFORE BY ROTO-ROOTER).

Issue at about 16' was confirmed. New group runs a camera and determines that the issue is not a "root" but rather a the head of a toilet brush stuck in the line blocking solids.

This all takes about 30 mins. So let's recap: * Roto-Rooter sends un-qualified and un-prepared employee out to determine job characteristics that doesn't do any actual work - NOT EVEN TO SNAKE THE LINE - and calls jet guy * Jet guy works hard to no avail * Camera guy screws jet guy by saying "different departments" and tries to say "all is well - trust us - the company will do right by you" * Camera guy gives me crazy $$ bid for work that doesn't need to be done and talks to management to "get to the bottom of this" and says someone will be reaching out to discuss.

TO BE CLEAR: I waited 24 hours to Sunday (3/19) afternoon to see if anyone from Roto-Rooter would call...crickets...and as I'm writing this on Monday (3/20) night, still nothing. * Camera guy admits that the person sent out was a recovery guy (clean-up only), was not a "tech", and had no business making any determination on the problem.

* Further, camera guy's information shows that a "tech" did show up. I can tell you that this is complete BS and CYA at it's best because nobody else showed up and they know they f-ed up.

New group fixed the issue immediately and we are back in business. But for the hard work of the jet guy I would have given Roto-Rooter no stars.

Trued for 20 minutes and wanted to charge $300. Our septic pipe had backed up into our finished basement leaving about of a quarter inch of sludge approximately 16 sq ft area on the floor.

We called Roto-Rooter and they got there within an hour , fixed the clog and then recommended that they remove all the baseboards and replace all the sheet rock up 2 ft from the floor. I thought this was unnecessary as the sludge was only on a small part of the floor and was removed within a few hours.

In addition, they recommended their cameraman come in and take a look to see what other problems there may be in the sewage line. When their servicemen came several days later he looked into the pipe with the camera and said that the pipe was completely collapsed before it got into the septic tank.

He estimated that the cost would be approximately $9,000 to replace the septic line. I dug the septic line out myself and saw that there was no collapse anywhere in the line.

We have a rental unit that had a leak from the fridge water line and although it took them 3 days to come out to tighten one nut! they still charged a $150 "emergency" fee because they deemed it "an active leak that could cause secondary damage." Yet, it still took them 3 days to respond! Ridiculous! I definitely DO NOT recommend. Estimate provided and was told they would be out the next day and would call with a few hours with a time.

No call received. Called to see what happened was told later that day would get a call and a time.

Set a new time for the first appraisal the next morning. Time came and went.

Called them again, advised they never put us on the schedule at all and our written estimate was lower that the job would cost before anything had changed or work done. Garbage company.

No HOT WATER for 5 days and counting! This company was assigned to me through my home warranty company, Old Republic Home Protection (ORHP), like the other one-star reviewer. Hector came on time, and was very friendly.

He checked out my lack of hot water, and went to my water heater. He turned up the thermostat to 125*F, then bounced! He was like,"things should be good now!" I seriously thought he would stick around awhile to make sure that made a difference, because it didn't.

A week later, Hector still hasn't entered a report on the work he did, so that my warranty company can know what to do next. I've called ORHP twice about this matter, and had them switch me to another plumbing company on the third try.

Edward was GREAT! After getting the run-around from my home warranty Old Republic Home warranty (ORHP), Edward replaced my hot water heater, by himself! They arrived a few minutes into that window. They repaired and/or replaced three things, one in the front yard and two in my house.

They were professional, courteous, knowledgeable. I found out they also repair central heating and air conditioning.

I live in a rural area where it is difficult for service technicians to get parts from their supply houses easily. It is also 40 miles from my home to my office.

I scheduled an appointment with Champion and took the day off from work so that I could meet their service technician. Also, recognizing the problem with getting out to my place, determining what parts are needed, having to return to town to get the part and return to my place to fix the problem, I sent detailed photographs of the problem part to Champion so that the technician could arrive with the part.

Champion sent me an email acknowledging that they received the photographs. The technician arrived about 3 hours late without the part! Champion did call and say he was having problem with his vehicle.

Dispatch never sent the photographs to the technician. When the technician arrived, he called the supply house and they had the part in stock, and he left saying that he would get the part and try to make it back out that day.

When he didn't arrive by 4:30 PM I called Champion and asked where he was. I was told that he wasn't going to make it but that I had been re-scheduled for Saturday between 10:00 and noon, which was acceptable to me.

When the technician didn't arrive by 11:00 AM on Saturday, I called Champion and asked about the status. I was told that I was still scheduled between 10:00 AM and noon, and the dispatcher said that she was trying to contact the technician for an update.

I asked the dispatcher to call me back with the status. I never heard from her again, and it is 7:22 PM on Saturday evening and I have been home all day and have not seen the service technician.

I would not call these people again! This is a no-name tiny company. But I'd like to bring it to your attention for their dishonesty and terrible customer service.

In the last week of May 2016, our home warranty company assigned the plumbing work in our house to this company. This company made three visits and didn't get anything done.

In the first, they said they needed to call our home warranty company and then didn't come back for the service. In the second day, they lied to our home warranty company that they stopped by in the evening but didn't.

In the third visit, they lied to the home warranty company again that we yelled to the work and therefore they did not want to take the project. To save your time and money, don't use this dishonest company that is totally not trustworthy.

The worst. So many issues.

But lets name a few: I informed them I needed repairs done on a Monday since that and Sunday was my day off. It took a full week to report my needed hvac repairs to my warranty company.

I had called them 2 times during the week trying to get them to engage. They said they would check on it and call me back.

They never did. After a week on my day off i tried to call over 10 times and they don't answer or return voice messages.

I finally got them to get organized through many frustrating attempts. I even asked for the manager or owner to call me and they did not.

They scheduled an appointment on sunday. They no called and no showed me on Sunday.

Then on Monday they tried to say they can get to me on Tuesday. Wtf..

I finally got them to bump someone else and schedule me. 12 to 4pm.

The guy showed up at 320pm. Had the wrong part and was gone for over 2 1/2 hours before contacting me to say he had to change vans and saying he is another 40 minutes out.

It's 630pm, dark outside and skeptical this will be the end of the saga. Disorganized, does not answer phones or call back, does not care about others availabilty or time.

And worst of all, they do not communicate at all. Stay away.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Through Fidelity, my home warranty company, this company has been dispatched to my house on three separate occasions.

Twice was for AC issues and once for a water heater, every single occasion was a DISASTER. The men that came out were accommodating but were always late, left huge messes and did not have adequate/correct equipment.

This last experience was the absolute worse. My AC went out in triple digit heat, they were scheduled to come out on July 1st, 2020 to look at the unit and make their recommendation.

Of course they were late not showing till nine that evening. We need a whole new unit, they gave their word the recommendation would be in to Fidelity the next MORNING to assure the process (Fidelity approving the recommendation, ordering the parts and replacing the unit) would happen in a timely manner.

The next day (Thursday the 2nd) I waited till two in the afternoon to check with Fidelity, the recommendation had not been submitted as promised. They called Champion and Trophy AC three way with me on the phone, they told assured both Fidelity rep and myself that the recommendation would be done by the end of the day.

Already frustrated because they did not do what they said they would and cost me an entire day int he process of fixing my AC in TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT. I took them at their word for the second time and did not bother following up the next day, Friday, because they had assured both Fidelity and I that it would happen...

guess what DID NOT HAPPEN!! Monday I followed up to see where in the process we were, Fidelity STILL had not received the recommendation!!! The short version..recommendation was received Tuesday the 7th, almost an entire WEEK after promised. Wrong part was sent by Fidelity (between these two companies, ugh! DUMB and DUMBER!) by the time the correct part was ordered, Tuesday the 14th, Champion told me they could be there SATURDAY the 18th, that was the best they could do.

ZERO sense of urgency even though their negligence had cost my family to suffer with NO AC in TRIPLE DIGIT heat. For weeks UNNECESSARILY!! I told their scheduling person secretary that was unacceptable and I needed to speak with someone else, someone who cared about the reputation of this company and could make thing happen.

She retorted that was the best they could do and her boss was already gone she would have them call me the following day (Never happened) I will admit that I went "Karen" on her at the same time assuring her it was not a personal attack but the amount of frustration at this point was EPIC and the fact that this company showed NO urgency or accountability was mind blowing!!! Instead of a call from anyone with any culpability in the Champion and Trophy AC and Plumbing or its reputation, they called Fidelity and cancelled the contract stating we were unhinged. Again....MIND BLOWN!! I have no idea, looking at other reviews, how this company is still in business.

If we ran our business like this we would not be. WORST costumer service EVER!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Very happy with this company.

The two guys were fast, friendly, and competent. Their prices were very reasonable.

I will use them in the future. I would give zero stars if I could.

Had an appointment between 1-3, I called because they never showed and was told they would definitely be here between 5-7 and not only did they not show, they never called to let us know. And, this was on a Friday! So Unprofessional.'''.Read less
