Review and analyze now for company Texas AC & Plumbing Specialist and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Justin and Colin did a great job. They found the problem and fixed it quickly.
In addition to a leaking sink, our dishwasher needed to be replaced. They sent me a few invoices showing me all the price options I could go with.
I appreciate that they were fast and kept me informed as they completed work. I also really appreciate when plumbers who are supposed to arrive in a certain window of time actually do.
Thanks guys! I had a Gold Service visit, not sure if Gold is accurate? Chris Hull was very professional and shared filter replacement period Information. I asked about the dripping sound coming from the unit, which is caused by an uninsulated main pipe, which I was not given a way to fix or did he fix it.
I needed a new knob for my unit access panel (caused by a bent access panel door, never replaced when they installed the unit in 2020 as I had requested. The panel was somewhat bent flat).
The Customer Service staff connected with me to provide an estimate on the knob. Online @Supplyhouse.com the part cost $1.60, Stan's said they can replace it for $132.00.
I'll stop there, as that's the end all to be all. Just sayin'.
So when you called his company, what do you think is locally owned, etc. it transfer you over to an name of a different air conditioning company which is very strange so I didn't even use them.
I can't trust anyone they can't even let me know what's going on. Adequate work, but it took much longer than estimated because the worker never had the right equipment for a simple job.
They also tried to collect payment before finishing the job. Edit (down from 3 stars to 2): offered me a discount to remove this review, guess we know why they have good reviews now.
Edit 2 (down to 1 star): I would believe that if you offered the refund before I left a review, but clearly you were trying to pay to get me to remove it. That's super shady.
Edit 3: feel free to post your end too. My reply was "That is shady as f*.
Your check is in the mail.' The only way you could have made things right would be to go back and do it in the day you quoted me, not the week it took. Initially the Update to this was pretty negative matter of fact it was a 1 star update, since then and I have met with James manager and Mark the owner, and all I can say is in my 60+ years I have never received such treatment from any company, I myself whom I consider to be customer oriented don't think I have come this close to perfect.
I cannot say what was done to fix our problem with our HVAC, I don't want to put the company in a position where they are doing the same for every issue. I can just say what my expectations were and what was completed was for lack of multiple words here "WOW".
After all the work was completed my wife and I payed a visit to Tx AC office and met some of the folks there. I met the owners father and I can see where Mark gets his business sense from.
great job sir I would also be very proud if he were my son. Not sure exactly what customer service means to most people but I can tell you from what I experienced here I know what their take away of it is.
all I can say if you are experiencing any difficulties escalate, "This Owner Cares" God Bless and a mighty big thank you from Sue and I.. Blessings to all your family and team members..
Our AC died on us last summer so I reached out to a few different companies for quotes and I really liked the salesperson for TX AC & Plumbing. They also had the best quote, so I felt like it was a no-brainer.
We had issues with airflow in our home, so they recommended taking a couple of the forking AC ducts and routing them back directly to the central supply box to provide greater airflow. They were so confident this would provide an increase in airflow, they'd add dampers we could close in case it was too much.
I also added a whole house air purifier to help with seasonal allergies. The first issue was after they finished the installation, I went up to the attic to check out their work and noticed they routed the wrong ducts.
No problem they said, they'd leave them and route the correct ones free of charge. In the end, I have no perceivable increase in airflow as requested, and I can't seem to get the dampers added to the wrong ducts to close.
The way they hung some of the new ducts in the attic seem to pinch them, and I'm sure is actually making the airflow worse than before. Issue two, they installed the air purifier on the return side of the HVAC.
They said there was no room on the supply side, which is the recommended placement of the unit. There would have been room if they didn't mess up and run too many ducts to the central supply box.
Final straw, the AC condenser is noisy. There's a plastic shielding inside the unit that vibrates loudly whenever the fan is on.
I had a technician come back out to investigate, he offered to zip tie it as a fix. He said if that didn't work, there wasn't much else he could do.
His fix lasted only about a week before the noise came back. I've since had another trusted company come out to look at alternatives to improve the airflow in our home.
They laughed about how horrible of a job TX AC did at the installation. I should have gone with them in the first place, it would have cost a little more at first but I wouldn't have to pay someone else to fix the job TX AC did and refused to repair.
Let me start by saying they did fix the leak behind my kitchen sink. Other than that it was a mess - they arrived more than 3 hours after the expected window, tried to sell a water softener by saying "I know you got nice clothes and your wife comes home with bags", then charged me for a slab leak and a pressure test.
There was neither a slab leak nor a pressure test done... Stay away from this company unless you want a ripoff and asshole comments.
I should also add I contacted their office to complain and while a "manager" was supposed to call twice, they never did. Josh and Colin were LIFESAVERS today.
I'll spare you the details on the condition we found my sewer line in this morning, but they came out SO quickly and took care of things within 4 hours. They were so kind and made me feel so much more at ease, I am a renter and don't typically have to deal with these issues, so I was a little frantic and frazzled.
Couldn't recommend them more! The past month or two, I've had a couple of home repair issues pop up and these guys were great! First up was an A/C tune up. Since moving in 5 years ago, my A/C has not been serviced and I didn't want any issues going into the hot summer.
For the low cost of $79, a technician came out to inspect and do some minor maintenance, including tighten up a PVC pipe that was loose and cleaning the exterior unit that was covered with cottonwood fluff. They also discovered my dual capacitor needed to be replaced and was still under the 5 year warranty, so replaced that as well.
The technician came out during COVID-19 and handled everything great - gloves, booties and mask. I also had to do some roof repairs and the roofer noticed my hot water heater exhaust looked pretty wonky coming out of the roof.
I sent a photo over to Texas AC and sure enough, they confirmed it needed to be replaced. Once they came out to inspect the water heater, they also detailed a number of other issues, along with the fact the unit was 10+ years old, so I went ahead and replaced the whole thing.
For both jobs, they came out during the time window, the techs were very professional and from some price checking, they seem to be pretty fair price wise. If you're in need of an A/C repair company or plumber, these guys will treat you right.
One note is it looks like they were bought out by Stan's Plumbing (the van had Stan's logo and the website redirects there when you look up their number), but Stan's has great reviews too and I still received great service. Blake came out to take a look at my AC unit.
My hot water was gone, but I wasn't too panicked because it was still summer. But, I was afraid I was going to have to replace my water heater (that's what the first AC guy said and, get this, the builders of my condo must've been comedians because the water heater is 21 inches across.
The entry to my attic, where its stored? It's 18 inches across. One neighbor said he had to replace his and it cost him nearly $3000 because he had to take out the attic stairs.
So, anyway, Blake comes in and, in less than 20 minutes, opened it up, pressed the little red reset button and, voila! I can't begin to tell you how relieved I was. I know my days with the water heater are numbered, but when it does fall apart, I know who I'm calling.
I really can't speak highly enough of my experience. Main line backed up and they were out the very next morning.
I had the absolute pleasure of dealing with Blake, a true gent in his own right. He did a quick inspection to see if it was easily clearable, it wasn't.
Wrote me a completely reasonable quote and then spent an hour not only clearing the blockage but answering my barrage of questions as I really wanted to see what was going on. Top company, top chap, super knowledgeable, 11/10 would absolutely deal with them again.
Thanks for a great experience. These guys were terrific! they were able to come out right away to estimate the job and their bid was very reasonable.
They happened to be able to start the next day (which is unusual I understand) but Blake showed up on time, he was polite, clean and did a fantastic job. We can't recommend them more...
don't try calling some of the bigger outlets as these guys will do it for a good price and it will get done to your satisfaction. High High recommendations!! These folks were Lifesavers!! When our AC went out, they sent someone out the same day to give us a quote.
We had 2 options--either major surgery/full replacement, or a Band-Aid repair. When we let them know we could currently only afford the Band-Aid, they were still just as cheerful and helpful.
Matt, the technician who came to do the work, was WONDERFUL. Very friendly, kind, and efficient.
He was even nice to our attention-seeking dog! He worked quickly, answered all our questions, and even made sure that things were cooling well before he left. Communication between office and field was seamless, which also helped make things easier for us.
We will definitely keep this company in mind when it comes time for our full replacement! I had PVC pipe repair for spring cooler in the front yard. It had a needle point hole.
I dig ground and the plumber simply just cut the pipe and repaired. It took around 20 min.
and he asked me $395. It was first time to repair and I did not know the market price.
I searched google and it cost from $100 to $180. I think it is way too expensive.
I call 3 times for 3 days and they promised me to call me back but they never did it. Reasonable price is one the most important thing for customer.
By the way service and repair was not bad. This is a review for their customer service After i posted my 1 star review they contacted me 15 minutes later and fixed the issue.
It was unfortunate that it had to come to that to get their attention, but it was foxed right away when I did get their attention Great customer service! Sent a message to have a new gas range installed, received reply in a timely manner. Was able to call the following day to set up an appointment to have the job done.
I received a text message to confirm my appointment day and time when I scheduled the service. I also received a reminder text the day before, and the day of.
I also received a phone call from the office and my tech the day of to let me know he was on the way. Steve (the tech) was very friendly and got the job done quickly.
He even double and triple checked to make sure the stove was working and level and everything. The cost was very reasonable as well.
TX AC Specialist has worked for me a few times on both my home and a multi-family property I manage. In general I think they are a good company, however, I think they have the same problem most bigger AC companies have during the hot Texas summer.
It seems they staff up with less experienced employees to meet demand and it looks to me like they don't check their work as much as they should. I had TX AC Specialist install a zone dampener system in my home a few years ago.
The zone system always worked great during summer to cool my home. During winter it worked ok, but, the downstairs never really got that warm.
As it turns out, the downstairs thermostat was wired incorrectly. When the heat was turned on downstairs, the themostat failed to signal the inverter value so it was actually AC blowing into the downstairs.
However, the heat strips came on so instead of freezing cold air, the air was luke warm. As you can imagine this made my energy bill really bad during months that were particularly cold.
We've had good experiences with Stan's in the past but my experience this week makes me very reluctant to rely on them in the future. I scheduled an appointment with a plumber for Friday afternoon, and they called the day before to say that they had to reschedule me for Saturday.
I'd already rearranged my work schedule so that I could meet them on Friday, so I shuffled my schedule AGAIN to accommodate Saturday. Today (Friday morning) I received a message that they would not be able to honor my appointment on Saturday and had to reschedule me again.
At that point, I had no confidence in their follow through so I'm having to contact more plumbers and start the process over again. I can understand rescheduling once but twice? If you're having to cancel appointments because technicians are calling in, then maybe you need to schedule fewer appointments so that you can honor the appointments you've already made.
I had to give a credit card number to secure the original appointment, so you can bet that they'd charge me if I flaked out at the last minute. Why then is it acceptable for them to waste MY time? Domingo Rios, a Senior Tech, for Texas AC, was very informative and helpful.
He called ahead of time to tell me his time of arrival, and he arrived when he said he would. He checked out my AC system, diagnosed the problem, and let me know what I needed to do next.
I highly recommend this company and Domingo Rios. Bill and Josh were great.
They came out to service my AC unit and my water heater and I was not disappointed. Both men were clear about what they were doing, what I should be doing, and what it was going to cost.
Add to that that they were both super friendly and on time. I will be calling again for annual service.
Back in April, I needed a quote on a hot water heater so I could figure out what I was gonna offer on a house we were looking at. The technician who came out helped us with everything we needed knowledgeably and politely, then left me his card w/ the information on it we'd discussed.
After closing on the house, we were able to schedule an appointment for later that week for him to come out and get the installation taken care of; they were in and out in an hour or so, and everything's worked *perfectly* since then. WOW! Expertise! responsiveness! and very fair on cost! What more do you need - I recommend Texas AC & Plumbing 100%.
This was the first time I had a great experience with an Air Conditioning company. They just got added to my #1 speed dial for any future air con issues.
Company was very responsive to my call. Thomas came in and assessed the problem (broken AC in Texas is always an emergency) and I was up an running in about 30 mins! Very disappointed.
Moved into a house with propane with two furnaces installed by TX AC Specialist in Summer 2016. Unfortunately, the installer never added the propane conversion kit to change the units from natural gas to propane when they put in the new systems.
No notice on units and no documentation was made. And TX AC specialist never came back or followed up to complete the job.
The house was unoccupied for 2 years so the issue went unnoticed. New owner buys the house.
Unbeknownst to him, the kits still aren't installed. Tries to run the heat, but it won't get warm.
Calls TX AC Specialist who inspects and confirms the issue is that the kits weren't installed, and now soot has coated the inside of the units. They are ruined.
And, the TX AC Specialist technician says running the units in their sooty condition is a fire hazard - creating a danger to the inhabitants. Instead of taking responsibility for its mistake of not adding the kits, the company is now charging the owner to replace the two (barely used) furnaces.
To top it off, the person on the phone blamed the customer for not knowing the units couldn't be run without this problem happening. He claimed he's never had this problem, that someone else would have "messed with their systems" to turn them on, and it wasn't his responsibility to let anyone know about the hazard.
The company set up these systems to fail, and created a fire risk by not adding the kits at installation. It's frustrating when companies do not take responsibility for their mistakes.
Do not use. UPDATE: The service manager called to apologize for my experience.
He reduced the repair charges and agreed that the situation was not handled in an appropriate manner. I appreciated the call and the effort.
I recently entered a maintenance contract with Texas AC Specialists and so far so good! Everyone that I've spoken with at the office is super nice and helpful. During the process of getting an estimate and signing paperwork, Britney & Kristina in the office were on top of everything and worked with me to reach a deadline.
The tech that came out to our property once all was said and done was also great. He knew what he was doing and didn't need me around to answer too many questions when I was busy taking care of my clients.
There was open communication about everything he did and saw which I was very pleased with. You can tell this company cares about their customers.
We redid our kitchen and had some complex plumbing work with moving our sink from a wall to the island in the center. Our Plumber, Blake, was great at explaining the process and was extremely reliable when we needed him.
It was a multiple step project as we needed to work in cabinets, flooring, and plumbing in different phases. Blake Made himself available when we needed him and really was great to work with! Would highly recommend Blake for any project.
He even came on a Saturday to finish the job. Excellent experience! Justin came through for the repairs.
He was friendly and quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem. He was open about the cost ahead of the repairs and also suggested a long term remedy for the plumbing issue.
I would definitely recommend Texas AC & Plumbing Specialist for any plumbing emergency! The owners are nice but just hope you do not get the female receptionist on the phone-- it has been awhile since I have received such unpleasant customer service. The lady made a rude sound and hung up on me mid-sentence.
NOT professional, I will probably not call this company again in the future based on this exchange, there are plenty of other plumbing companies in Austin that still understand what southern hospitality and even basic manners are. They worked hard to get my AC system installed and resolve our problems.
Cost for the two bedroom condo AC unit (1 and 1/2 ton Lennox) was about $4100. I hired Texas AC & Plumbing Specialist for a small repair job on my kitchen sink.
Blake came over right on time, got the sink working flawlessly, charged me exactly what I was quoted, and was friendly and professional throughout. I'd absolutely work with these guys again.
We are new to Sun City. The day we moved in we found out that we had NO hot water.!! Texas AC and Plumbing came out and put in a new hot water heater.
We bought this house knowing there was no water softener. They installed one at the same time they installed the hot water heater.
We were very happy with their punctuality, speed and efficiency of installation. My experience could not have been any better! Spigot on the side of the house broke and needed a repair as soon as possible since I had to shut the water off.
Luckily, Frank came out within an hour and was able to let me know what the options were, costs, etc. After talking it through, he started getting to work and was done within an hour, with everything working great.
Lastly, when it came to pay, there was a coupon online that they accepted to help keep the bill down a bit! Overall, the experience, and Frank, were great. I recommend this plumbing specialist for any needs you may have, and I will be sure to contact them with any other needs I have! Great fast service! Air Conditioning went out at our house and I scheduled a service call for the next day.
Scheduler called me the next morning and asked if I wanted to move the appointment up as they had a cancellation. Jeffrey showed up promptly, quickly diagnosed the problem, replaced the broken part to get our AC working again.
Service was friendly and reassuring. I recommend them.
Thank you guys! Note there is an $89 diagnostic fee to come. Saved a service call charge by waiting until Monday.
Bill Poss is a good technician quickly diagnosed our issue as a bad dual capacitor. Price seemed average - not cheap but not overly expensive.
They showed up on time as agreed, the part has a limited warranty. I'd use them again other places wanted to charge a service call just for coming out, some didn't even return my call.
It gets hot in Texas, and if you're air conditioning breaks down or has issues it can become unbearable. Customer service was great and when one of the technicians couldn't readily find the issue, they called in a second technician who spent hours troubleshooting until he did.
Rigo did a great job explaining what was happening and giving us future options if needed. I appreciate a business that takes the time and the effort to do a thorough job and more importantly, fairly breaks down their prices.
If you're anything like me, you're reading this to find a reliable business. I couldn't recommend them more! Martin and team did a spectacular job w/ my HVAC installation.
All through the process, Martin has been very responsive and kept me informed and up-to-date w/ the status of the installation. He was the first to come back w/ a bid among all the installers I requested bids from.
Martin also patiently answered my questions on the install and the austin electric rebate program. On the day of the install, he kept me up-to-date w/ his team's progress.
The team took about 6-7 hrs to do the install since it was a 2 system gig. After the install Mike and team showed me the components inside and outside the system and explained proper maintenance procedure.
Brittney at the front desk is also assisting me w/ filing paperwork for the city rebates. So far the system is working great.
Texas AC Specialist were definitely very professional and courteous and a pleasure to do business with. My AC died Friday.
The earliest I could get someone out for a replacement quote was Tue afternoon. Tue morning I requested a quote from this team via Yelp.
I had someone at my door before 9am to give me a quote and by 1pm we had cleared financing options and equipment was being installed by 2pm. The installers were fantastic and got the job done before 6pm.
I can't thank you enough. Great service.
Friendly and professional. Just fantastic.
Very up-front about cost, were able to promptly reply when we needed help with a broken AC over Labor Day weekend, they came out and did great work and were great with our kids wanting to ask questions as they worked. Would use again in a heartbeat.
Very impressed with Sean's expertise. I felt like he gave our unit (inside and out) a thorough inspection.
Although he was not able to find what has been going on with the unit, b/c the issue only happens intermittently, I feel confident that it is in good shape. I appreciate Sean coming out TWICE to properly check the coolant levels.
The first time he was out, the temperature was around 50 degrees impending an accurate Freon read. I never got the feeling like he was just trying to sell me something to make money - which is more than I can say for other companies.
Looking at you WCU in Bastrop. I will certainly call on Sean and TX AC & Plumbing the next time we have a need.
Appreciate your honesty and integrity. I have been a customer of TACPS for 8 years.
They started doing small repairs for me and then replaced one of my heat pumps two years ago. When I came home last week to a leaking ceiling naturally I called TACPS.
I had been traveling for work and by the time I got home it was late. I was on the phone with Martin until 11:00 pm on a Friday night working through my options.
I ended up deciding to replace the unit and scheduled to have the work done on Tuesday although Martin said he could have had it done sooner I picked Tuesday. They arrived in the morning and after a long day the unit was installed and working by 7:00 pm.
I was especially impressed with how professional the installers were. Ismael and Aurelio took great care to make sure I understood all the work and left everything cleaner and more organized than how they found it.
Having to buy a new heat pump is stressful because of the cost. You cannot help but wonder if you are being taken advantage of.
I have worked with many different companies, gotten bids etc. I truly trust TXACPS.
Something changed in this company. We used to get a good service for the most part the last 7 years.
We have a bedroom that gets direct sunlight in the mornings and wasn't cooling properly. They suggested we do a direct duct because it was sharing one with the laundry.
Last April when they came for maintenance for our 3 units we finally asked them to do the direct duct and they did it for $225. They also did other repairs and we decided to renew our maintenance plan for the next three years.
We ended up paying $1500. On June when the temperatures were already getting really hot we noticed the room was still very warm.
We called them and upon arrival the guy checked the vent in the room and said that the system was not cooling properly and that the unit probably needed freon. I mentioned another area that was also having problems getting properly cooled and he checked both units and add the freon.
He finished and gave me a bill of $250 dollars. I asked him if the freon was included in the maintenance plan since they had just checked the systems 5 weeks before and didn't mentioned the need for freon.
He said they usually include up to 1 gallon of freon per unit and since I have 3 units I was entitled to 3 gallons a year. I asked him if it was okay if I called the office and check if I had already gotten my included supply of freon.
I called their office two hours later and the receptionist tells me that the manager already checked and we needed to pay for the freon. I politely ask if I could speak to him to clarify and she says he is in a meeting but will call me back.
He never does and 3 days later I am on vacations and I noticed that they had already billed my credit card for the $250 dollars without my approval of the charge. They just happened to have my credit card on file! Days later I called again and told the receptionist how upset I am that the manager never called back and they went ahead and used my credit card without my authorization.
She said that the manager is gonna call me back because he is in a call. He never calls me back.
We have been a client for 7 years. Spend $1500 with them just last April and I can't even get a call.
Now we are stuck with the 3 year maintenance plan we just paid in advance, the room still gets warm (their last technician said it might be because of the location of the thermostat - GOOD TO KNOW AFTER DOING THE DIRECT DUCT) and we don't trust Texas AC Specialist anymore! UPDATE: I want to acknowledge the company for trying to make things right with their customers. Martin the Service Manager called me today to address the situation.
First he asked me how everything happened because they wanted to make sure it doesn't happen again. He clarify the freon policy to me, turns out it's just included in the first maintenance.
He apologized for the manager never calling me back and offered to check why they charged the credit card. He is reimbursing the freon charge for the inconvenience and giving a discount on the direct duct.
He gave me further advice on ways to solve my warm room. Thanks Martin for your response, I am all about companies that want to make things right with their customers.
Fast, professional, awesome service. Our compressor went out on a 2 year old unit after a power outage.
They had our air back fast. Highly recommend! I rarely write reviews, maybe my expectations are too high.
But, Domingo exceeded my expectations, came out same day and was able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem. He communicated early and often in yelp chat, and called ahead of arrival.
Rate was more than fair as well!! This was a great experience, and would definitely recommend Domingo. They refuse to honor the written warranty they gave me.
According to the owner, the warranty doesn't cover anything. $11,000 for two complete systems (upstairs and downstairs) and the warranty is worthless.
Don't be fooled by these people. This place will scam you.
They lure you in with the $85 estimate and once in your house give you an outrageous estimate to fix your issue. Did a great job on my AC and Will always use them on my rental.
Fast and honest and a pleasure to work with. We had a gas leak that we could not find and knew it had to be simple.
These guys were awesome. They responded to my query within 10 minutes and came out same day.
They stayed until the gas was hooked back up and running which was above and beyond. Julian hung out for several hours waiting on the gas service to get turned back on.
I am amazed. And I don't feel like they tried to take me for any money.
Unlike the other two places I called, Texas Air Conditioning Specialist was able to get a technician out to me the same day. Daniel arrived within the quoted window after calling me to let me know he was on his way.
He was very friendly, explained what he was doing and why, and even gave me some advice on my system. After the installation, he also help me set up my thermostat and stayed to ensure that everything worked.
I really appreciate the attention to detail and great customer service that Daniel provided. Texas AC & Plumbing Specialist did a great job for me on short notice.
My condenser is on the roof of a two story bldg with no way to access with a crane. These guys figured out a way to manually get a 2 ton unit up there along with doing a complete furnace and air conditioning change in one day.
They were very neat and Martin was great to work with. After many calls, delayed responses, and referrals from other companies, Texas AC was the only one that responded within 10 minutes and scheduled a time to look at the AC unit and pipe that was leaking water in our kitchen ceiling on the same day.
The guy that came out knew what the exact problem was. He took care of it within 30 minutes and told us the cost before repairing the AC unit/pipe.
We didn't have time to compare prices, but it seemed reasonable. Customer service was excellent.
Admittedly, was a bit skeptical about these folks based on previous reviews. But, I had a FANTASTIC experience with them.
They: - responded quickly - stayed in great touch throughout the repair process - offered multiple options for repair and/or replacement and very good deals on both - educated me throughout the process on HVAC issues. My only worry- is that maybe it was more expensive than needed.
But, I'm willing to let that go out of my own ignorance. Overall, I felt like Domingo and Rico were fair, honest, helpful, professional, and offered high quality.
When it's time replace my aging machines, it'll be TX AC with whom I go. I only hired TACPS once for a small shower handle cartridge replacement at a rental home.
They were able to come out same day and were on time. Easy to work with, I haven't been to the home since but was told the problem is fixed.
Not a bad experience, but I wouldn't call them again for this type of job. I asked for a quote over the phone, and was told the technician needs to see the problem in person, which is completely acceptable.
I was also told there would be no service fee for this, which is why I scheduled with TACPS as opposed to other plumbers I called. The reason I deducted stars is, once the appointment was scheduled with the tenant and the tech was there, I was advised that the hourly rate for the first hour was $100 MORE than the regular hourly rate.
This seems a lot like a service fee (and a high one) in disguise - especially for a 1 hour repair. Transparency is one of the most important factors to me when working with contractors, and in my opinion if these hourly rates are fixed a company could be clear and upfront about them before scheduling.
I have never experienced a plumber charging more for the first hour, I don't think it's common practice, so this seemed like a curveball. At that point, everything was already coordinated with the tenant, and I didn't want to use more of our time on rescheduling with someone else.
It was a quick fix, but in retrospect I could have gone with another hourly plumber and saved some money. I am thankful for the work and promptness.
* Update: I received a follow up call from Martin, asking about my experience, elaborating on hourly the fee and making sure I understood their process. I appreciate the quick response, and willingness to take that time to go over everything with me, especially considering the small size of my project.
His call made this company stand out to me, I haven't experienced many companies following up after a job is complete and I truly appreciate it. Also, I failed to mention previously that the tech explained to the tenant best ways to avoid a similar issue in the future - which is fantastic.
Thanks! Thanks to Texas AC & Plumbing Specialists for not just fixing up our A/C unit but for being so honest and not trying to rip us off like so many other companies! Bill did such an amazing jobs and also gave me so many tips on how to keep the unit working perfectly! I would highly highly recommend Texas AC & Plumbing! This family owned business is awesome ! Johnny came out to put in a new bathroom faucet. There were challenges with the faucet itself but Johnny didn't give up until it was perfect and installed.
I won't use anyone else but Johnny. Thanks for the GREAT JOB!!!! I had an awesome experience with these guys.
Steven is a great plumber and a real friendly, honest guy. You can tell he enjoys what he does.
Service was very quick from start to finish and I thought it was reasonably priced. After many bad experiences with other plumbers I'm happy to recommend Steven to anyone I know.
Thanks man! Expert, efficient, and fair. I can't recommend TX AC Specialist enough.
We've been customers with the owner and his team for close to ten years; over that time they've served and supported us through 3 homes and a half-dozen referrals. Every single time they exceed expectations.
We recently replaced our AC, furnace, and duct work; we also installed 5 air returns through-out our new (to us) house. During the design and install process we felt we were working with a trusted advisor consulting us towards the best options for our family, not their bottom-line.
Their work product is exceptionally efficient and high quality which is why spending hard-earned money with TX AC Specialist feels like an investment not an expense. Thanks again to the entire Tx AC Specialist team for being a big part of making our house our home.
Excellent communicators. Fair, and super helpful with my complicated situation.
We have used them several times, and were happy with every transaction. Well, as pleased as you can be when you have to spend money on your A/C breaking ;-) I've used Texas AC before for plumbing and had a wonderful experience with Blake but my AC experience has been a nightmare.
I called to have someone come out to look at a broken ac and was told a technician would call ... 2 hours later I call back and the same story.
I call in the morning and they assure me someone will be by from 5-7pm. At 7:30 pm no one has shown up so I have to call again.
Larry (not the tech) sends me a text saying they are at a call and I am the next person ahead. At 8:30 pm he tells me he is on the way.
It is now 10:00 pm and they have not finished another job nor will they be done for another 2 hours. I understand it's summer and it's busy but there were ZERO apologies for anything and this is day two of no AC In 100 degree weather.
I will not be using this company again. Amazing service and installers! Very professional, knowledgeable and polite! Install was quick and easy and no mess.
Loved working with Texas AC & Plumbing. Fair quote given and no surprises.
Ask for Martin! Excellent service. I've used them twice now and both times with different plumbers I got timely and knowledgeable assistance.
The customer service is top notch. Plumbing and HVAC calls can be intimidating, but our experience with TX AC was terrific.
Johnny and the team took time to answer our questions, the whole process was streamlined and efficient, and install very timely. Everyone passed our Gizmo (dog) sniff test, which further validated we were in great hands.
Highly recommend and will continue to use going forward if issues arise!! My technician was courtious, on time and worked quickly to fix the issue. He explained everything and offered several solutions that allowed me to select what fit my budget.
I asked for a quote on future work and plan to hire him again when I am ready A few weeks ago one of the water heaters and an AC unit in our home finally decided to quit. I sent out a request for quote using Yelps services for the water heater and I received an immediate response from Martin with Texas AC.
He came out the next day to look at our AC and water to see if we could repair our existing AC unit. Unfortunately, there was no repairing the unit so we had to replace the busted unit along with our ancient unit.
Martin was awesome to work with. He was attentive to our pricing request and questions regarding the installation.
The installers were polite and professional. If you have any plumbing or AC repair needs I strongly recommend TACPS! Had Texas AC Install a new Variable Speed AC system to replace an aging 15+ year old single stage system with severe duct leaks that were cooling the attic but not the house.
Overall, I'm happy with the unit and 95% of the ductwork. It does the job and the installation looks very professional.
Martin is very knowledgeable about the new technology and was very detail oriented. He was able to answer all of my questions.
I was happy to see they didn't try to skip out of insulation R value in the ductwork to save money like some other companies do. I would have given a 5 star rating, however I had to do some demolition work myself over the weekend in order for them to keep their schedule, and they didn't replace a few of the insulation batts that took out to install new registers.
I didn't pay for new insulation, but I certainly didn't expect the existing insulation to be worse condition than what I had before, especially since it was between the 2nd floor and attic. I love these guys.
I have other people I've used to HVAC stuff, but I seem to always come back to these guys, and rightly so. No service call.
They were out in an HOUR. It's the hottest day of the year...
I love them! :-) Needed a new capacitor, which Thomas changed out quickly for me, and comped me a cleaning of the unit. Wonderful, quick, reasonable.
Thanks Thomas and Texas Air Conditioning Specialists! Texas heat we all love to hate it, especially when your AC isn't working! Texas AC specialist has built a relationship with my husband and I and let's be honest not for the best circumstances. We are homeowners and for personal reasons we decided to lease a home for a year.
Well 2 weeks in we started having AC problems and when I say problems I mean NO AC! The landlord had purchased a warranty through the company so of-course we had to do all the proper things and call to have some one come and service the AC. Sure enough with in 24 hours the AC was up and running.
We thought the problem was fixed and for lack of so many details let's just say we had several service calls after... The AC had a mind of its own and wanted to test the knowledge of every service employee and I truly mean EVERY employee.
The great thing is that within 12-24 hours we had a technician along with their manager at our front door and they were stunned every time because they thought the problem was fixed. Unfortunately they ended up replacing the entire system and did it with exceptional customer service on top of having compassion for my family and I.
In the mist of our Texas heat and no AC It is not fun and is a huge inconvenience especially when you have kids and one being special needs. My husband and I thank the company for not giving up and showing up several times with a great attitude and friendly service! Martin and his team are the only ones we call for our AC needs.
They have helped us out after hours and weekends. They are knowledgeable and do exceptional work.
It feels like they really care about their customers. This is Texas and it gets hot within 30 min with no AC and Martin knows this and wants to help.
They have very reasonable rates and fast service. You can trust them to provide quality work and get you cool fast! Great for fixes.
Mediocre? Worse? for replacement. We had a terribly old system that we had various area A/C teams fix over a period of a couple years.
The system had a small coil leak and some electronic breakdowns that were relatively inexpensive fixes ($300 or less). During those fixes TX AC Specialists were by far the most informative and reliable guys to call - we had others come and say we just needed to replace the whole thing without even looking around, etc.
TX AC always agreed with the sentiment that it was time to replace it but would spend the 15 minutes to half hour to diagnose our problem and fortunately for several times in a row the fix was minimal or a not-too-bad refrigerant recharge. That is how TX AC gets your business.
They have A++ repair men, but install is not as good. In late 2013 during one of the cold spells it was just time to replace the system.
The sales guy who came out seemed fairly informative, quoted us XYZ system and said we'd get a number of discounts. The XYZ system was a 3.5 ton carrier unit that by the sales guy estimation needed two intake vents where our house only has one.
Adding the second intake vent would be included in the price he said and would be just such and such through this wall. Turns out, sales guy not so good at math in various ways.
Math problem #1: One of the discounts he claimed I get, some $400 refund, didn't even exist - Fortunately one of the founders of the company sent us a check for $400 out of their own pocket after I complained about this. Math problem #2: The second intake install was not as easy as they sales guy's first glance said it would be, the intake needed to go through a wall, yes, but there was a closet behind it with some open air before the next wall - which I guess was not how he wrote the quote.
Math problem #3: Possibly caused by math problem #2, the unit sounds like a jet engine in our house. Sure, it actually works fine compared to our 20 year old unit, but we have trouble sleeping at night when its on and our living room TV has to be turned up very loud to hear over this new unit.
Math problem #4: Typical sales BS about how much money we'd save in electricity each month replacing that old 20+ year old unit. The thing here is, when your old A/C doesnt work, you use it less to just get by.
When the new unit is installed, you use it like a normal A/C, more often, running it at 75 in the summer rather than 80, etc, and even so, with 20 year newer technology our bill stayed the same. --- Our install experience was the same as others have mentioned.
Nobody on the team spoke english, or barely did. When they came out they noticed the airgap to bridge through the closet and just decided they couldn't do it for the second vent.
They also let one of our cats out by leaving the garage door open, despite me being in the house and having very explicit conversations with them about how we could manage not letting the cats out (lock the cats in the bedroom most of the time, then at a certain time I'll let them out to go eat and so on, but DONT open the garage during that 1 hour window). Naturally, cats being cats, one of them hid in the garage so we were careful to agree on the situation (DONT open the garage until I find it, just leave the garage shut).
Apparently "Don't open the garage" doesn't translate to spanish because I came out in the garage looking for the cat fifteen minutes later and naturally the garage was wide open. Thanks guys.
Cat survived, no thanks to these minor league technicians. --- So, install not very smooth, but the unit worked! It was loud as hell, and its been perfectly operational for a year - so I would say these guys are technically proficient at minimum on install in that the unit actually works, but the polish you see when their A+ list all stars come to fix things is not there on install, and you'll likely be disappointed.
We did call their guys out of exasperation about the noise a few months after install, and their guy (again, one of the a+ all star knows his stuff fix guys, not the backup little league install team guys), and he says the way to fix the horrible jet engine sound problem is either get that second intake vent (no way?! you don't say?!) or have the install team move the unit further away from the vent into the house which was going to be $1K to $2K. $2K to have that install team in my house again, probably screwing something else up further? No thanks.
At this point my wife and I are hoping the entire unit dies under the warranty period due to lack of air intake misconfiguration by their installers so they can do it the right way the second time. But, to our dismay, the jet engine keeps on working just fine - so, as I said, to their credit, the damn thing actually works at all, which is surprising given the math problems and miscommunication problems from sales guy to team.
Use these guys for minor fixes, don't let them install a unit in your house. My summary of my review is: "Texas A/C Specialist goes the extra mile for the customer." This is my 2nd review for Texas A/C Specialist.
My original review was rated low, and I have come back to document my 2nd experience with them. (service call for minor repair) First of all, I received a phone call from the new Service Manager, Martin, prior to the technician arriving.
He knew that I was not the happiest of customers, and wanted to introduce himself, and inform me about the new processes that are in place, to ensure customer satisfaction. Martin was extremely professional, listened to my concerns, and updated the technician before the service call.
This level of customer service was a complete 180, from my previous experience. The technician (Robert) arrived on time, and promptly introduced himself.
It took him about 20 minutes to diagnose and fix the problem. Robert then took the time to walk me through basic maintenance, that the owner can do to keep their unit running smoothly.
I thought this customer service was "above and beyond", and I really appreciated it. In summary, if you have had a previously bad experience with TX AC Specialist, I urge you to give then another chance.
Martin will ensure that you get taken care of. Texas AC & Plumbing has come through for me again.
Their professionalism, rapid response, and customer service are much appreciated. When I had to replace my AC system a little over a year ago, I was given a thorough explanation of system options and reasonable pricing.
The system I selected was installed in a day and I have been happy with its performance. A plumbing issue came up a couple days ago and Bill was a great help scheduling a service time for me.
Johnny was able to fix the problem in a short period of time and at a fair price. Thanks again guys! They installed a new heater/AC system and gave me a new water heater for me (temporary deal)! Martin talked me through the process and even called me back in the evening in order to get me out the door quickly the next morning.
And the the guys that installed the systems were totally professional and very fast. The whole process took 36 hours.
Happy customer! My whole experience was fantastic. The operator Brittany was very professional and was able to dispatch a tech very quickly.
The tech, Johnny was awesome! He explained everything that was wrong and gave me the proper fix vs the quick fix estimate and what each entailed. I opted to go with the proper fix knowing I was in good hands as he was very professional and easy to talk to.
He got to work quickly and finished within the timing he estimated it would take. I will definitely be a repeat customer if I have any other plumbing issues.
My ac was not cooling at all. I called another well know ac repair company and even though their ad states they will have no problem coming out quickly, when I called them this am I was told the earliest they could come out was 4 days away.
I then called TXAC was was told they could send someone out after lunch today. Thomas the service tech called me at 9:20 saying he was on his way.
It took Thomas less than 15 min to get my unit working. Even though my unit is on its last leg, Thomas set down with me to explain the details of installing a new unit.
There was no sales pressure at all. Thomas was very professional and clear in his service.
My experience this morning from TXAC was awesome. I will c u t YOU! That is what I was saying when I heard my AC compressor go snap crackle pop.
After doing the breaker check and trying it all again and getting an even bigger snap crackle pop, plus some dramatic smoke, I knew I was in for a treat, a 2k plus kind of treat. But TAC made it as easy as possible.
Their phone service called me within the hour and asked if I wanted a weekend appearance or a Monday appearance. Since it was Sunday evening, I opted for Monday.
Regardless the technician himself called me on Sunday as well. TAC was on time and had me up and completely functional by noon on Monday.
They explained how lucky I was to get in on the old Freon style compressors before they were completely phased out. If they had not found me the old Freon style compressor, I would have had to replace everything - including the coil inside.
That would have been a 6K plus kind of treat! Thank you TAC. No cutting necessary after all.
Upon posting my initial review, I was immediately contacted by the manager at Texas AC. He promptly mailed a check for the $500 discrepancy, as he had been unaware this was all happening prior.
At the end of the day, our new AC unit has kept our house freezing (we question if we were oversold on the size, as there was no direct replacement for our prior unit available) and despite struggles in communication throughout the planning process the team that did our installation was easy to work with and seems to have done a great job. They were able to work in our small house with a small access hole to the attic and somehow did not come crashing through the ceiling (they had to build a new platform for the unit and change locations of several components) so it has all worked well in the end.
MF-ing pros to the rescue. After spending a week with no A/C, we finally broke down and called TACS.
I'm so glad we did! Our technicians were professional and efficient, and the new system keeps the house at the appropriate meat locker frigidity on these 105 degree days. We decided to go with the dual temperature and humidity control system, and have seen a marked difference in how cool the air feels at a higher temperature than we kept our old system.
I haven't had to set the gauge below 79 yet, and have been cool as a pickle pop all night. During the day, I leave it a few degrees higher, but the humidity control keeps it from feeling sweltering when I get home.
Overall, I am so glad I went with the Carrier dual control unit. It was a little more than the temperature control only model, but we did get a nice $1000 "Cool Choices Rebate" from the manufacturer.
The rebate comes as a credit card, but you can opt to receive a check instead by going online and calling the number provided. TACS are superstars in my book.
They saved us from our dangerous acclimation to moderate discomfort, and for that. .
. we salute you.
This is a review on their customer service, not the actual service - Mark and team responded within just a few minutes of my request, where many others do not. Appreciate it! It took me years to find a HVAC service I trust...
and these guys are the real deal. I had to have an entire unit replaced last summer.
These guys offered a competitive price with unparalleled service. A year later, I did have one minor problem where some of the tape they used melting in the Texas heat, resulting in hot attic air leaking into the ducts.
They came out and fixed it free of charge (arriving early and doing the work for free). The summer before, I had my 2nd AC replaced by a different company.
The work they did, along with the service before/during/following, was completely inferior and actually more expensive than Texas AC specialists. I wish I had found them sooner.
It only figures that on one of the four days that Austin dips below freezing, our gas furnace went out. Isn't that always the way? But wait, it gets better! It goes out right before a weekend, thus ensuring two long days in which we emerged from our heated blankets only for such necessities as brushing our teeth and the like.
We needed heat, toute suite. First, we called one of the bigger local shops.
You know -- one of the ones whose vans you see all over the city? They came out, did some poking around on our old unit, and told us pretty unequivocally that we needed an entire new HVAC system which they would be all too happy to sell us for the low, low price of $6,000.00. After we regained consciousness, we (at the suggestion of my oh-so-level headed girlfriend) called TACS.
They're right up the road, they're small, they had a great Yelp rating. The technician Brent came out that very day, did his own poking around, and found that our heater's malady was nothing more than a frayed bit of rubber hose connected to the blower.
He trimmed the frayed part off the end, and didn't even charge us for the call. The heater works just fine! These guys are life savers.
We called these guys 2 days ago after having another company out to look at our broken AC. That other company (Campbell) was awful, so we wanted a second opinion.
I called at 4:30pm and told the guy what Campbell's diagnosis was, and the first thing he asked was whether it was still under warranty. After I told him it was only 2 years old he said it should be and that we'd only be charged labor costs.
As new homeowners, we hadn't even thought about the warranty. The other company was about to happily charge us $1600 for the part...probably still filing a warranty claim and pocketing the money...on top of their other BS charges.
By 6:30pm that same day, someone had come out and I already had an estimate. Fast forward two days (would have only been one but I couldn't be here), we have a working AC again and saved over $2k.
Their employees were very professional, courteous and competent (what a concept!). I would definitely use them again.
Showed up at agreed upon time. Overall the main theme of their work was attention to detail.
I had the new Ecobee4 thermostat installed. All things went according to plan (good sign of someone who is experienced in their trade) with no missteps or trouble.
I also was happy to know they could take care of hooking up my gas grill. The house was plumbed for it on the patio but they made sure to install to code with the proper trap and aligned it for the best aesthetic / functional use.
While here they went to the attic and put in a new A/C filter. All in all, good, prompt, Professional service.
What one wants when needing help and service for such household installs.'''.
