Review and analyze now for company Michael J Messick Plumbing & Heating and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Ive had all excellent experiences with them. Was moving this year and used them for several jobs....
all done super fast and for a good price. They fixed my toilet, my sink drain, garbage disposal, bathroom faucet, and plugged several leaks.
Would highly recommend! Would give zero stars if I could. Do not call this company.
When we called to have our sewer line looked at/cleared, they sent two separate trucks which was unnecessary. Proceeded to bill us for the two separate guys being here.
I have had my sewer line cleaned out/inspected before and never needed two guys to do it. Each guy had a line item on the bill! Are you kidding?! The fee was hourly but they sat in their truck for a good while writing up their bill and rounded up to the hour.
Charged for the camera (did they buy a new camera and needed it for this visit?). Then charged us a $75 service fee on top of the two fees.
Hmmm.... what was that for? It was a very expensive diagnostic look in the pipe (about $650 with tax).
One of the two told us the pipe had separated and they could replace or fix it for "About $5000" (no written estimate- more like a guesstimate). We called and spoke to someone at Messick later in the day to complain directly and we were told that they always send 2 people out and bill that way.
The person relayed that they have to keep these guys employed. No apologies and no offer of applying some of that cost to the project.
If that had happened, I would not be sitting here writing this negative review! We felt so gouged by this company and wary of their "guesstimate" that we called a different company the next day and had the line replaced for about the same cost. Messick lost our 5K due to their greediness and shabby treatment.
Shame on this company! Effective and professional service. I would definitely recommend to my friend.
Price is fair. I'm only allowed to leave a review if they get a star so take your unwarranted star and go.
We had an issue with our water turning off inside the house if the hose was running. Spent $600 for them to replace the water filtration filter and the air bladder in our well pump.
We were told to do both more often and should be checked every couple of years. Fair.
We bought the house in 2020 and hadn't serviced the well pump yet and it is now on a schedule to be serviced every 3 years with our septic tank, which is due for service in 2023 per recommended guidelines. The very same day, the issue persists.
Ran the hose, water in the house turned off. Hose turned off.
We don't get a call back for hours. We are told they can come out the next day, I imagine so the same person can come back out since they're acquainted with the issue.
Fine. They come back out the next morning (today).
First I have to spend several minutes being talked to like I'm incompetent and simply don't know how the well works in the house I've owned and maintained for two years. I'm told we didn't follow directions and his recommendation the day before.
I advise again this is a new issue and has not happened before in the years we owned the house. I have to guide him to the hose, turn it on, and direct him to the sink that immediately doesn't run water inside the house.
Suddenly there seems to be an issue other than my perceived competence that he needs to investigate. Clearly me explaining the issue was not enough, but perhaps I just give off an air of stupidity that my partner doesn't.
The water filter is again clogged with iron. We were told it's simply the way it is and we just may have a low well water line and we should consider having water delivered for our pool, which none of our neighbors have done since we bought our house, the prior owner did not do, and as pools are opening I don't see anyone doing that.
He hooked up the hose to the outlet before the water filtration and it worked fine inside the house at the same time and was again advised not to use the hose for too long. Now, that may be correct and it's the water line of the well.
That does happen. However, this indicates to me that there's an issue of iron buildup inside the well pipes since this is a brand new issue.
If a pipe is suddenly filtering iron in a capacity that clogs the water filtration system, that seems like an issue that should be treated as a problem with the well or pipes, not purely for user error. This wasn't checked.
I was simply told "well don't use the well like that." This is akin to telling a doctor that "it hurts when I bend my elbow" and being given the advice "don't bend your elbow" without any sort of diagnosis. I was also told we simply aren't allowing the water to refill.
Considering that we've been away for three weeks and this issue happened immediately on our return, I'm going to have to say we haven't been taxing our well pump that much. We got home Monday at 1am.
The issue was immediate on Monday afternoon. Haven't done laundry yet.
Didn't even run the dishwasher. We took a shower.
I then had the privilege of spending $200 more for them to switch out the filter again (which I had in my home, not a filter they provided) to be told that it's just the way it is and don't use the hose. Please save your money.
Find a trained dolphin to learn to walk on land. They seem to know more about water.
Plumber John arrived several hours after call for service. Can't beat that.
He knew about all the options for clearing a drain stoppage and tried them one by one until a drum snake worked. All costs were detailed up front.
I have no complaints about the entire experience. The bottom line is that I would call Messick Plumbing again for future service.
DO NOT USE MICHAEL J MESSICK PLUMBING!!! They are dishonest, quoted me for work I did not need, charged an extortionate fee ($315) to tell me what needed to be replaced (which I already told them over the phone), and then they billed my credit card twice for that 20 minute visit. After getting a number of quotes, I used another vendor to replace my septic pump for $2300 less than this company's quote.
Scam artists. They charged us over $700 to fix a dripping faucet! This company charges by the hour and they took over two hours to diagnose and order parts for the repair.
So if the person they send out is incompetent, you will foot the bill. When I asked why an experienced plumber would take so long, we were told our faucet is not something you see everyday.
When they returned with the parts, they charged another svc charge of $50 plus an hourly fee for installation. When I called to ask them if they thought it reasonable that they charged us the cost of completely replacing the faucet they offered no assistance.
Such bad customer service. I will never use them again.
One star only because this the lowest Yelp allows. I used to use these guys, but they have rapidly become just awful.
Had a drip leak that I identified. Messick sent out a useless tech who could not find leak.
Ran faucets for 5 minutes and was unable to fix. Then I got a bill for 224.00.
Do not use them. I have told all of my neighbors and friends and offered alternatives.
These guys have become big shots and care about max billing only. As with Google they only have 5 star or 1 star reviews, very few in between.
This shows that you will pay absolute top dollar and may get your issue resolved, although probably not without a bevy of upcharges. Messick Plumbing should be avoided at all cost.
They overcharged me by a lot, including a labor charge of 1.5 hours for 45 minute work, a check valve for $75 (you can get it from Home Depot for $16), and a miscellaneous charge of $70 for unidentified parts! They came to inspect a developing sinkhole around one of our field clean outs. Last week they canceled and rescheduled appointment at the last minute.
Arrived at 8:35. Signed the paper that I agree to hourly rate of $155.
He said would take 20 mins. After 30 mins he sat in his truck to write up invoice.
That took 25 mins. When he got out he was still under an hour.
He had put down 1.5 hours when he was writing it up in the truck, when it wasn't close to being over an hour. Very dishonest approach.
Lost several repeat customers today. And wasted my time.
I saw a plumber working at a favorite restaurant. Wanted to add a lever to turn my water for my washer machine on and off.
He showed me the lever and said it would take about an hour $148 plus $50 for the trip charge. I made an appt.
The plumber came out, said he would have to cut through walls. I said I didn't have the money.
At this scary time, when I am out of work, he charged me $200 to tell me it would not be a simple job. NO WORK WAS DONE.
They charged me $200.00 for coming out. Buyer Beware! May I be the only one ripped off by this unethical charge.
I would have been upset to pay the $50.00 service charge, but I would not be writing this. I will NEVER use them, or recommend them to anyone.
This is no way to run a business! But, obviously, they don't care. If there were negative stars I would use them.
They said they can handle any job and have all the materials on the truck they would need. They showed up late but charge for when they were supposed to arrive, had nothing on the truck they needed and made several trips for supplies and seemed to come back with something different to eat each time while they stood around figuring out what to do.
The 1-2 hr fix turned into an 8 hr day and they even sat in the truck for 30 minutes to write up the bill and that time is included in your bill. Very dishonest and inexperienced.
Dishonesty Plumbing & Heating is what they should change their name to. If you're going to swindle folks out of their money you might as well own it! I've been using this company for years for various different issues.
Any time I call them they are there ASAP and always do great quality work. The staff is extremely friendly and I trust and recommend them to all my friends.
They were responsive, coming out the next day. The 2 guys on the job were very professional and took care to do god work.
My septic was carefully repaired and back in operation within 24 hours. BUT...the prices and the way jobs are costed out is very slanted.
One worker had to leave for a family emergency, so another guy was sent out. I was charged $100 for the hour while guy #1 was on the phone with family, and for guy #2 to travel to my house.
I wasn't told that the pressure jetter was an additional $150 charge. I wasn't told there would be an additional $450 charge for the backhoe.
The 2 guys took an hour lunch break (15 minutes driving each way, 30 minutes to eat), but i paid $125 for half of that hour. I guess when you need a plumber you can't necessarily shop around, so take advantage of what others document in Yelp.
When you are charging $250 per hour, the timekeeping needs to be more fair. Came twice to look at my water filter system which was working but needed maintenance.
The first time plumber came made adjustment and a couple days Later the filter stopped working completely when it was working before he came. When I spoke to the owner he claimed it was not his fault and that the plumber would Come back but charge me again.
The second time he came the plumber said that the filters needed to be changed and charged me full price for coming out again. In total I got charged around $500 and my water filter system is still not working and of course I'm not going to call them back to get charged again.
Plumber was nice but pretty ditzy. He should have been able to communicate info in one visit not two.
Avoid at all costs. Nice guy and did good work.
But it's a dishonest company. I bought a high quality solid metal kitchen faucet and hired the guy to come and install it while I was at work.
The guy told my wife it wouldn't fit but he had one in the truck that would. He charged me $240 for a piece of sh*t plastic faucet, not one piece of metal in the entire thing.
They probably paid about $40 for it. Steer clear of these crooks.
First and last time I do business with them. I needed a new holding tank for my well.
After a couple of no shows from other plumbers, I begrudingly called Messick. While they have a rep for good work, they are known for being expensive.
I was quoted a price of $800-$1100 for parts and labor, depending upon how long they were here. I didn't feel that was too bad and went ahead with it.
In the end, the job cost $1,525. Labor alone was $650, and they capped it off with a "service charge" to boot.
When I called and complained to the guy who quoted me, I got every excuse in the book. While the quality of the work is good, I will not be calling them again.
I feel like I was taken advantage of. I have been using Messick Plumbing for the last 15 years and although they are expensive, I have always been quite happy with their work.
I, unfortunately have changed my opinion of them. Having been a regular customer, who has paid them over $6,400 in repair work, I find it unimaginable that they would rather lose the steady business of a customer, then to try and make their customers happy! I recently had a drip & called them to repair the leak.
I was told that since the faucet was old, it would be more economical to install a new faucet. They could provide me with one, however all they had was chrome and my fixtures are brass.
If I ordered a brass one from them, I would have had to pay another day's labor to have it installed. I bought the brass faucet myself & had them install it that day.
Now less than 1 week later, I have no pressure in my hot water faucet. I called them to look at it & was told I would have to pay just for them to walk through the door.
If the faucet is damaged & it was not supplied through them, they cannot guarantee it. They will not even come to look at it without charging me again.
If you want to be nickel and dimed, then hire them. If you want customer satisfaction, I would look elsewhere, which is what I am doing.
Sorry, Messick Plumbing. You have lost a loyal customer.
Loretta D. I recently had a plumbing emergency.
Messicks came out and quickly discovered that my issue was actually a back up in my septic system. They recommended septic pump service that works directly with them Stinky's ( I know the name is funny).
I had to have Messick's come back the next day as my basement toilet was overflowing. Since it was an emergency call the price was pretty hefty.
Luckily the same technician that came out the first time came on a Saturday and knew exactly what needed to be done, and did the job as quickly as possibly so I wouldn't get charged an arm and two legs. Very professional all around.
Highly recommend. I have used Messick Plumbing for 7 years.
They are reliable, reasonable in price and top of the line in skill and excellence. I recommend them and do so without the slightest reservation.
Trust me, you won't be sorry. Linda and Ed Hopewell, NJ I highly recommend Messick Plumbing for their friendly, quick service and flexible scheduling! They came out the same day to fix a toilet.
John was professional, polite and very knowledgeable. He quickly and neatly fixed the toilet in my bathroom and was also able to fix the two sinks in my kids bathroom.
I couldn't be happier with their service and will absolutely use them the next time. Installed a hot water heater that failed electric and water inspections.
Avoided returning my calls for about 2 months. Finally took my call and told me it was a "pre-existing" problem and not their responsibility.
Called the inspector to run that by him, he couldn't believe they said that. The inspector sent a letter to them threatening big fines, Messicks called me to schedule the repairs, of course tried to squeeze some more money out of me, which they couldn't.
Worst contractor experience ever. These guys are real con artists.
They'll give you a quote for, say, $150, but once they get there they add charges for BRINGING THEIR TOOLS AND ANOTHER CHARGE FOR USING THEIR TOOLS! (Really!) plus other totally rip-off stuff. That quote turns into a $500 bill.
Don't touch these guys with a 10-foot pole! Messick Plumbing returned my call so quickly and took the time to explain things on the phone. The service that was provided was so professional and after the job was completed my bathroom was left so clean as if nothing ever happened.
Great service is not easy to find but these guys certainly set the standard for others. I even received a heads-up call about 20 minutes prior to the visit.
They provided me with fast, efficient and professional service! Highly recommend. Terri Ringoes, NJ I have used Messick on and off for plumbing for the last 10 years.
Usually they do good work. About a year ago, I was considering replacing a toilet, and they told me that they could provide only the plain white one that they had in stock.
If I wanted anything different, I had to buy it myself. I was disappointed that they don't work with suppliers.
A few weeks ago, I bought a whole house water filtration system and an under-the-sink reverse osmosis system, and I needed a plumber to install them. I had gotten an estimate from another plumber for $1850, which seemed exorbitant based on the fact that the manufacturer said that it usually takes less than a day to install.
I then called Messick and asked for an estimate. They told me that they don't normally provide estimates in advance for this type of work, but they charge $125 per hour plus a $45 travel fee.
i scheduled the work. It ended up costing me the same or more than I would have paid the other plumber.
But the reason was that the piping in my basement was inadequate, and some new pipes needed to be installed. I feel that they should have come out beforehand and given me an estimate.
Having said that, I was extremely impressed with the plumber, Dave. He was very nice, explained everything in detail, was considerate and took off his shoes when walking through the house, and cleaned up when he was done.
That's why I'm giving them four stars. There are several reasons I recommend this business.
1) the phone is answered by a person, not a machine 2) my appointment ( for a non-emergency) was scheduled for within 2 days 3) The representative, Jim, was unable to make the original appointment time, but called to tell me, which I greatly appreciate. 4) Jim was very quick, courteous and knowledgeable and made some recommendations about our AC filter that saved us money.
5) while the price maybe more expensive than others, I got excellent service, and I believe in supporting local business I will NEVER EVER do service with this company again. We had them come out to do a simple 10 minute fix on our boiler and it cost $234 (the part was only $50.) They hid the cost until they came out and then sprung it at the end.
To top it off, we started having problems in our heating system, called a reliable and trustworthy company, and found out the $234 fix they did was done INCORRECTLY which then cost us MORE money to fix. And what did Michael Messick have to say about that....of course that the other guy was lying! Now the $234 fix is broken again (5 months later) and he wont even offer to come out and fix it without charging us more money! I was unhappy about it and he yelled and SWORE at me! I admit, i didnt exactly keep my cool, but the owner of a "reputable" business should never respond in that way! So now their 10 min job is going to cost me over $400 and two added calls to a professional who can actually do the job right, for reasonable cost! BEWARE of doing any service with them, always find out the cost before hand, (they cost at least double compared to other plumbers in the area.
..I found out a little too late) and cross your fingers they do the job right! These guys are really good. We have had significant issues with an old septic system and Chris has been out several times over the last year and a half to address them.
He tells you what he's going to do and updates you on a step by step basis. The quality of the work is top notch.
They are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Guy W.
Buckingham, PA I called Michael J Messick Plumbing to fix a leak from our shower which appeared on our kitchen ceiling. John came out to the house in about 30 minutes and diagnosed the problem quickly and efficiently.
He was very professional and friendly. He explained everything clearly and fixed the issue in no time.
I'll definitely be using his company for any future plumbing issues. Thanks! Never Again.
I had them put in an expensive radiant heat floor. About 2 weeks after the warranty was up, two of the regulators went bad.
Not only did they charge me for the regulators and a service call ($450+), they were nasty about it when I asked for some help on the cost. Never call them again.
I had the same experience as the previous posters. They completely misrepresented the time and labor required for a job the rep said was "extremely straightforward." They sent 2 people instead of 1 without telling me, which essentially doubled the cost.
Oh, and their markup on materials is insane. I also called to complain and also got every excuse in the book.
The owner was extremely rude -- yelling at me, etc. In fact, I've never encountered anything like it in my entire life.
I've used them before and they do good work, but this whole thing was sneaky at best, and dishonest at worst. The owner's completely unprofessional attitude combined with the double-charge pretty much ensures I will never use them again.
Be sure to call on Michael Messick Plumbing for your plumbing problems! Their telephone number is (609) 466-7971 or (609) 924-0502. Michael Messick and his crew have been able to take my calls for the last seventeen years we have lived here and every time they came, I have been blessed with their professionalism.
They have done excellent work every time. The latest has been the most awesome, which is why I'm writing this, to thank them.
We are moving, and when one of their plumbers, also named Mike, came over to fix our leaky faucet, he told me we needed a new one to pass the town code for a certificate we needed to close on the sale. Panicking at the prospect of finding a new one the same day or week, I asked him what to do, and he happened to have a new one in his truck that fit the spot perfectly.
This was a job that might have normally taken me a month to choose a good replacement, but they were able to fix my problem right away. I couldn't have had a better set of plumbers to call on, and since I'm moving locally I'll continue to call on them.
Thanks Messick Plumbing!!! Best wishes, Porcelain Frost I wish I'd come to yelp before calling Messick; the other terrible reviews here might have saved me from learning the hard way. They misdiagnosed the problem in an attempt to sell me something I don't need, and then charged me $200 for the misdiagnosis! I have used messick plumbing repeatedly over the years.
I live in a very old home which is constantly having issues with plumbing. The messick plumbers are available quickly and are always courteous and professional.
Their pricing is competitive with other reputable plumbing businesses. I also recommend their septic company, Mr Stinky.
I've recommended messick plumbing to a number of friends and family. They never disappoint whether it's a plumbing emergency or just a repair.
Messick has different phone listings, I called the Lawrenceville NJ number. Beware, they overcharge you and perform a temporary solution.
When you call back in a few months for them to come back and fix it right. They said, "That's what you asked for." Oh, yeah...who asks to pay a premium for crappy work! Avoid this buisness and you'll save yourself alot of headaches! Oh, and if your a woman, you'll be ripped off worse! We're sorry we called them over, they happen to be doing service for our neighbor, so my husband asked them to stop by and take a look at our septic which was flowing over.
In the meanwhile, it started raining and they sat in the driveway for 45 minutes before spending 10 minutes looking at it. Ended up paying $400 just for telling us its clogged.
Should have done my research first. I rarely need a plumber, but in the handful of times that I've had to call one the past 25 years, I have never been let down by Messick.
Today's service, installation of a pedestal sink and toilet in a tiny bathroom, was as highly competent, efficient and timely, if a bit pricey. I give 5 stars for rapid service BUT $128 to book plus $45 "service charge" plus $71 for a toilet kit?? With no prior approval, they charged me $85 dollars just to come out and look at my leak.
When I told them they should have let me know PRIOR to coming out, they did not care. This is how they make their money.
The estimate they provided was over 2x what I finally paid to have the leak fixed using another plumber. There are plenty of good plumbers out there that don't need to charge you just to provide an estimate.
STAY AWAY from this one. Terrible service and do not stand by their work.
Replaced a septic pump. Responded to a service call two years later and put in a new pump without my approval.
Called when I got home from work but they would not even call me back. This year the pump went bad for the third time.
They again tried to replace it with no explanation of why the second one went bad. Called in another company and turns out it was wired wrong and the electric was not protected by a waterproof casing.
I'm out another two thousand dollars but at least I know the problem was corrected properly. Messick is arrogant and unresponsive.
Will never do business with them again. This is not a problem with the workers.
The problem is the owners. I've called on Messick Plumbing twice in the past month.
The first time was when the water heater stopped working. Setting up the appointment was very easy.
The tech quickly determined that a sensor was malfunctioning, and replaced it. He could have tried to sell me a new water heater, since I don't know a thing about them and wouldn't have known if he was being honest or not.
While he was here, I asked him to look at the faucets in the master bath that weren't working properly. He wasn't able to fix them at that time, because, due to our very hard water, all of them were corroded inside.
He said the inner workings of the faucets needed to be replaced, and that Kohler would send those parts out for free. He then quickly got Kohler on the phone and arranged that.
Today, another tech came to finish the job, and it went smoothly. I am very pleased with the quality of the work, their punctuality, and professionalism.
Susan Lawrenceville, NJ Hello everyone. Just wanted to tell you about my experience with Messick Plumbing.
My hospital called them last Thursday and made an appointment for Friday morning between 9-11. At 10:55, I received a phone call from Jeff and he told me they were inundated with frozen pipe calls and could not get to our business.
He said he would call me later that day with a new time. I never heard from them.
Today I called and he told me that they were too busy and did not have time to come out until Friday---if then. Please don't do business with this company.
Their customer service is terrible. I wish I had listened to the other reviewer.
I got an estimate (verbal, my fault I should have asked for written one) for a range between 2000 and 3000 dollars. I was told specifically not more than 3000 dollars.
Well, first visit 340, second one 4345. The funny thing is that 3 years ago they installed a new pump fopr less than 1800.
Just like the other reviewer I was given a lot of explanations. And the guy I spoke to refused to accept that they did the previous pump.
Same thing now costs well above 4000. 180 ft of 12/2 wire is 531 dollars.
The pump is 1035, but same pump can be bought for around 300. I understand this is a business for profit, but more than 3 times markup? I have been their customer for 5 years.
I guess I am not going to call them any more. My advice is- if you use Messick service, make absolutely sure you know what you will be paying up front, before even someone shows up.
Other red flags were: the first the guy changed the connection box (340), which had nothing to do with the problem; then I asked for the old pump- they forgot to give it to me until I asked again; forgot to give me the documentation of the new pump- had to ask again. Two stars because other things aside thay do OK job.
STAY AWAY -- INCOMPETENCE. They send someone out who was clearly incompetent and then only charged me $160 for the priveledge of using their service.
IF YOU USE THEM BE WARNED. Look at the reviews on this site! I agree, STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I called them to snake out the drain line from my washing machine.
I was quoted a price over the phone that did not mention an equipment charge. The technician arrived and it took him 10 minutes to decide how to setup his machine.
Once the machine was setup the belt fell off. He re-installed the belt but it fell off again.
He took 20 minutes to repair the machine only to find out that the snake was kinked in several places making it unusable and difficult to get back into the housing. All this time he was complaining about the "Semi Handyman" they had back at the shop that was supposed to keep the machines in good repair.
He was able to clear the clog with a smaller hand held unit but I was charged an additional $48.00 for the use of that machine. He said he wasn't going to charge me for the use of the bigger machine.
I told him there was no mention of an equipment charge and he just said "Hmm they should have told you" When asked if they guaranteed their work he said "Not really, but if you still have the problem in a few days we can work something out" Thanks but no thanks. I won't use this company again and if you decide that you want to use them, don't trust their estimate.'''.
