Lots of hopes and dreams, more disappointments and shame with a dose of "Are you for real right now?" Naturally, as the universe intended, we suddenly found water under our water heater.
On a Sunday. Before the 4th of July.
With these stars aligned, I called Weilhammer Plumbing. He picked up his phone at home while hosting family and was cleaning up.
Not only did he clearly explain the issue (not an emergency, even though my wallet wouldn't stop shrieking), he gave us instructions on what to do to avoid further leakage. He said he'd come by the day before his vacation, but if he couldn't get to us, he'd refer us out.
Then we laid hands of the thing and made it 10x worse. I sent pictures as he asked and told him the situation.
He called me immediately to walk us through fixing our mistake. He did not refer us out, he came the next morning.
He was no nonsense, low maintenance, quick and honest. He quoted me over the phone, stayed below the top range of the quote and was kind enough to say, go ahead and call around.
No, sir, you've already won my business. I did check with a neighbor but she had the work done almost 10 years ago.
He did the job for the same price. Inflation who?! He was in and out in about 2 hours, no issues, explained the new system, replaced the heater and some other things that were destined to cause heartbreak and panic in the future.
Can't recommend enough. Thank you! Mark was able to replace our leaky water heater right away.
He did a great job and left the job site cleaner than he found it. Highly recommended! Disapointing.
called this morning and was told someone will call me back. Called at 5pm to say no one had called.
Eventually got a phone call but obviously no urgency.. Will not recommend or use ...
We have had Weilhammer out several times starting in 2011. This weekend was the 2nd time he came out on an emergency basis as our water heater failed on a Saturday afternoon.
Less than 24 hours later we had a new water heater installed on a Sunday morning. He is direct, honest, and efficient.
I can't recommend him enough. The only time he wasn't available for an emergency on a holiday in 2019 he referred us to someone who was able to help.
He would always be my first call. I searched for someone to grind out corrugated drainage pipes at my mom's house in Noblesville.
Weilhammer no longer does that grinding, but M made a recommendation. Weilhammer's top tip was him suggesting how to KEEP the pipes clear of roots.
AND he said likely tree roots had gotten in the drainage holes (and that's what likely happened). They were spectacular suggestions.
M, you are the best! Great experience with these guys. Super friendly on the phone, and they were extremely professional upon showing up.
I had two toilets that kept running and had called a local, supposedly reputable, plumber first. They quoted me $1000 to fix both toilets, and I then had them leave.
Weilhammer then shows up and fixes everything for $200, and were a pleasure to deal with. The even replaced everything with new parts.
It's nice to have some honest people in the area for this work. Update: a friend had the same experience with the other company.
These guys are a great option for the area. I had an unusual problem with a plugged up shower valve and Mr Weilhammer knew the solution and spent quite a while advising me over the phone what to do to fix it.
Very helpful, knowledgeable, and no charge. They came out today to fix low pressure on hot water.
Turned out to be a pipe almost clogged completely clogged clogged with lime. While they were here we had the tank replaced.
Very happy with the service. Would use them again.
I have always found the owner Mark to be very knowledgeable about water heaters. He knows his stuff.
Gas water heaters are big on his list. The electric tankless are pretty much impossible except to run a single fixture in a home or business like a sink or lav.
Plumbers know that. We get the specs on how much heat rise you can get from a device used to heat water from the cold, cold ground.
A tank can heat and simmer the water over a two hour period. A tankless has to instantly heat the cold water into something usable.
For instance, a gas tank may be 38,000 BTU, and a tankless would need 199,000 BTU. That's over five times the amount of gas required to heat the water as quick as needed.
Heating by electricity is far less efficient. I have learned so much over the years from Mark.
Thanks :) Following several failed attempts to find someone-- anyone-- who would not only call us back, but actually put us on their calendar to come out and replace our water heater for a reasonable price, I began scouring the internet and seeking input from others. Weilhammer Plumbing was highly recommended by a coworker, and they had excellent reviews on the internet.
(And I liked how they were responsive to the reviews-- even the bad ones. .
. It made me think that they stand behind their work and take their reputation very seriously).
Upon calling Weilhammer Plumbing, I got a good vibe. The person I spoke with was very pleasant, didn't treat me like some stupid woman who didn't know what she was talking about, and seemed very knowledgeable and competent.
I also liked that they were willing to quote me a price over the phone (as opposed to the other companies, who wanted to come out before they'd give us an estimate, even though I just wanted to replace the unit with one that was pretty much exactly the same, and provided them with all the specs and features of the old one. .
.). The person I spoke with on the phone asked me to take some pictures of the area with the water heater and text them to him, so he could get an idea of what he'd be dealing with.
I thought it was an efficient way of dealing with it, saving me from having to take time off work to get a quote, and saving him a trip across town. I was also impressed by the phone conversation because it seemed like Weilhammer Plumbing wanted to do things the right way, rather than just do the bare minimum, collect the money, and be done with it.
The person I spoke with explained to me that they felt it would be best to add a drain pan underneath the new water heater, which they felt would help minimize damage to the floor in the event of a future leak. This was included in the price of the quote.
I needed a 38 gallon short electric water heater, because of space issues in the utility closet in which it was to be installed. I knew I wanted another one just like the old one, which had lasted thirteen years and was still going strong (save for an obnoxious sulphur smell at the start of showers).
They listened to me, and quoted me out on the brand I wanted, with the warranty and features I wanted, instead of trying to sell me something else. Despite that the unit was not actually leaking, and was still working (mostly) just fine, Weilhammer still made us a priority, and came out not even two days later to do the install.
They came at the time they said they would, and not one, but two guys came out with two trucks. One did the actual install, and the other helped with everything else (such as ensuring the water was shut off at the outside level, making sure the electrical breakers were turned off, bringing the installer the correct fittings, removing the old unit and draining it outside, etc).
This was a time saver, resulting in the whole haul-away and install taking less than two hours, and leaving my afternoon free to go get an oil change and run some errands I'd have otherwise had to run over the weekend. From what I can tell, the work appears to be good quality.
I also liked that they went the extra mile and added a heavy line of caulk where the concrete and laminate floors meet, to re-direct water away from the laminate floors in the event the unit were to leak at some point in the future. I am glad we found this company, and will consider them first for all future plumbing needs.
After having a horrible experience with the big local plumber, we called Weilhammer and had a great experience! We had two toilets running, and they were prompt to respond, on time, and a fraction of the price the other guys wanted to charged! We have recommended them to several friends after my parents made the same mistake with the other company. Thanks again!! About a year ago, our well pump stopped working.
We called a couple of plumbing companies, got quotes and were ready to contract with one of them when a friend told us we should call Weilhammer because they could probably give us a better price. We did and their quote was nearly half what we were going to pay.
The guys came out, did the job, we paid and once again, we had a working well pump. I'm surprised there are several negative reviews for Weilhammer on here.
On Angie's List, they have 122 reviews and an A rating. And they are recommended by many of my neighboors on the Nextdoor neighborhood app I use.
These guys were great....they came within an hour of my call, looked at the issue, answered all our questions....did what needed to be done! SERVICE WAS GREAT....I so appreciate when artisans come when they say they are coming, do the work needed at a price that is reasonable and fair...Hat's off to Weilhammer Plumbing! Update: Considering the owner's response to my review, and reading how another Yelp user had a similar experience with disrespect from the owner, I will offer my suggestions to whomever is reading this to go with BIG FROG PLUMBING. The process to get someone out was simple and online, and everyone I spoke to and worked with were professional, polite, and courteous.
They're who I will go with if I have any issues in the future, and it's literally only two minutes away from this awful company. I came here and found these guys well reviewed.
I've had low water pressure and poor hot water in my house so I called these guys. Response was eerily fast, as someone showed up within the hour.
When they arrived they immediately set to work. They replaced piping and tubing leading into and out of my water heater.
It had degraded over time. But when they were done they didn't actually fix my issue.
My master bath shower, which they saw, was barely usable. It was mentioned "We need to replace the cartridge in the shower faucet." Do you know what a cartridge is? Did you know there was anything even behind your shower faucet? Because I didn't and I don't care to.
That's why I called professionals. But they left on an emergency call and three days later everything is as it was.
They also said I need a new water heater, which is probably right. But there was no guidance on what to get, how to get it, or if they could install it.
I was told "if it's not fixed in three days give us a call." Well, it wasn't fixed when they left so one wonders how it'd magically fix itself. But hot water water isn't so much my problem.
I have decently hot water. But I don't get to use it because it barely comes out my shower head.
Three days later and we're still Googling and ordering parts, drills, wrenches, and other supplies so we can replace our own shower faucet cartridge. Something that should have already been done and something I don't care to do on account I'm not a plumber.
To add to it, they left two ridiculously large and obnoxiously yellow "WEILHAMMER PLUMBING" stickers on my water heater and furnace. They measure about 5 or 6 inches wide and 2 inches tall.
I don't mind leaving a card, or a magnet, but these were stickers half a foot wide. My house is not a billboard.
10 minutes of scrubbing with Goo Gone, magic erasers, and a wall scraper it came off. My goal was clear: "If I can't take a decent shower this evening, then it's not fixed." $195 later, after 20 minutes of their time, it's not fixed.
Excellent response and service, but $175.00 to replace a couple of bolts that hold the water tank to the toilet bowl? Just a bit excessive. Have used them many times, 2 water heaters and other minor problems.
Didn't think they were out of line on those repairs but will check around on any future repairs or problems. Great plumber.
Stands behind his work and shows up when he tells u he will be there. Showed up and started right in to work.
Had to have water heater replaced which he installed 5yrs ago. Cleaned up after himself very well.
These guys did a fantastic job with our water heater and water softener installation. Very knowledgeable and gave sound advice.
Worked with the owner, good guy, super nice and helpful with advice on the phone. Saved me a lot of money.'''.
