Basically beaue there was no hot water running through our old galanized pipes.
Additionally, we now had a leaking piple that was ceating a slow mess in the basement unfinished bathroom. The leaking of the pipe was something new and we knew it had to be attended to immediately.
We have been dreading this moment for a few years because we feltthis was going to be an expensive repiping issue. Being a senior and living on a limited income was not in our plans.
But we were tired of hiring "off the cuff plumbers" who would come and go without any lasting solutions for our problems. Finally I made a call to my sister because they have an older home and she suggested Szabo Plumbing.
They had a few issues and they were able to fix them without much hassle. I wasted no time calling them.
The first impression was lasting , the intake guy on the phone was patient, reassuring and advised there would be an $89.00 charge for assestment (estimate) yet this would be reimbursed if we decided to let them do the work. The first guy came out witin a couple of hours and informed us of the problem.
He took pictures that were sent to Joe(the plumber) to inquire about the job and came and gave us an estimate Called them on a Saturday morning and on Monday the following week the plumbers arrived. They arrived very gently into my home and once we went thru introductions Joe immediately went to work.
He was able to assest the situation quickly, professionally and for once it made sense. He looked at pipes in basement, advise us that it was open and he could see the damage from the leaking pipe.
Had to use a high powered drill and do some cutting to access the pipe, repaired it all within an hour. He then showed us the pictures of the old pipes with the sludge that had accumulated over many many years.
Disgusting!, but it was removed replaced with a newer pipe. He immediately came upstairs to test water flow from kitchen and bathroom to make sure that it was pumping properly...
AND IT WAS... everyone was happy.
especially Joe, I felt he was more excited about this then we were.. lol There was an area in the shower and tiles had to be removed.
He also removed the tile in the area in which he had to cut to access connecting that pipe to the basement. He did an absolutely awesome job of reinstalling the tile, and quite frankly, I would love for him to refinish the entire bathroom.
OK.. that's not his "main job"..
Before, he left I did mention about the pressure being slow. Once again he checked into this showed us then recommended that a new pipe be installed to run from the water heater to the washer basin in the basement.
He did return on the following Monday and completed this task for a more then reasonable price. So I got two main issues settled within a couple of days.
No hassle, no wasting time, just good ole fashioned hard work, that could only be done by a professional like himself. His apprentice Tyler was spot on with assisting him at every turn.
He did this quietly and professionally. This was a long review however it was so worth the cost and the professionalism I received.

I called and asked to get an estimate for a sump pit replacement. No one told me that the fee to come out to get an estimate was going to be over $90.
Their estimate and recommendation and fear factor to get it done quickly while talking to a woman was almost $9,000. I called South Suburban Waterproofing and paid $1,500 for correction of 2 pits and a new pump.
No fee for estimate. I am in real estate for 35 years and will never recommend this company to any client.
I have been extremely disappointed with the lack of responsiveness and follow-up from Kevin Szabo Plumbing. I reached out to them over two weeks ago seeking assistance with a plumbing issue in my home.
A few weeks prior (June 26, 2024), my toilet gargled and my bathtub backed up. Although the issues seemed to resolve temporarily, the problem resurfaced, affecting my entire house.
Kevin Szabo Plumbing sent a team to inspect my home and perform some rodding outside. They assured me that everything was fine and that there were no major issues, recommending minor adjustments like removing my food processor.
However, just seven days later ( July 3th, 2024), the same problems recurred, causing significant inconvenience and frustration. I want to caution others about my experience with this company and the ongoing challenges I have faced in resolving my plumbing issues.
I hope that by sharing my story, others can avoid the difficulties and frustrations that I have encountered dealing with Kevin Szabo Plumbing. I highly recommend Kevin Szabo Jr.
Plumbing. I called them to look at my water softener which was leaking.
Ryan came a few days later and said I needed a new water softener. It was installed a week later.
No waiting for weeks to get an appointment. I call that great service! We needed a new water softener.

My area had 3 days of rainfall and my back up sump was failing Szabo sent out 2 gentlemen within 20 minutes! Did a fantastic job replacing pump and back up. They were super clean and efficient.
New system is so quiet too I left 2 messages, 3 days apart, & did not receive the courtesy of a return call. Based on the lack of a response, my business has been lost.

They were very professional and quickly resolved the issue. You never appreciate plumbing until is it not working.
Kevin's company saved the day! My son had what he thought was a water heater problem in Park Forest. We drove to his house where I determined it was a frozen pipe.
We called Szabo and were told that because of the many similar problems it would be two days to respond. We shut the water off and awaited their arrival.
The came slightly later than projected and apologized having just spent 2 hours working on an outdoor problem and were obviously glad to be indoors. I feared the problem would have to be solved be removing drywall and replacing pipe or pipes.
Within minutes Brandon and Tony isolated the problem, went to their truck for a new valve and were on their way. Proficient, professional, courteous.
A client can ask for no more. Highly recommended! My parents had a slow drain in their kitchen and had a pipe problem.

Good business. I called Szabo plumbing for a clog in my master bath.
2 plumbers came out and in fixing the clog released water into my foyer. They cut a hole in my ceiling and left me with it.
I spoke with many people at Szabo plumbing including Kevin, who promised a repair. A drywaller called twice and didn't show up both times.
Calling Szabo again didn't get any results, so I was left to hire someone to repair my ceiling. We needed to get a toilet installed over the weekend and our usual plumber wasn't available on short notice so I called Kevin Szabo's plumbing and they were able to bring someone out the next day.
I remember seeing a sponsored videos on Facebook of the owner eating at local south burbs restaurants lol They were scheduled to come in later in the day but the plumbers called us ahead of time to try to come in earlier which I was totally OK with me. I'm just glad they communicated with us a couple of times instead of just showing up.
The plumbers were very respectful of our home, worked quickly and got our toilet installed. They even took down our old toilet which was nice of them since we live on the third floor.
I still like my usual plumber but if there's any short notice jobs that need to be done, I would totally call Kevin Szabo again. I had called Szabo Plumbing to repair a leaky toilet wax ring on a tenants apartment and was quoted $275, which I considered fair, considering a licensed plumber and fully stocked truck would have to drive there and do the repair.
What I didn't consider fair was when the shut off valve didn't work, they charged me an additional $200 to put a new one on. Now I understand if I called them out for just that repair, $200 may be reasonable, but they were already on site for the other repair.
Not to mention they never contacted for any additional approval prior to replacing it, just a text message from the plumber onsite stating the new total would be $475. I contacted Wade, to discuss the upcharge and was told I actually recieved a discount as they normally charge $250.00 per valve, but he would talk to Kevin himself and see if anything could be done.
As I was away on vacation, I told him I would contact him in A week when we returned.....well, called him twice since returning, NO CALL BACKS. I decided to check my Credit card, and now see, they not only charged me the $475, plus an additional $14.75, not sure for what reason, as I never received an itemized invoice e-mailed as promised.
I've always considered them fair in past work they had done for me, but as of now, have lost confidence in Szabo Plumbing and will no longer use them, nor recemmend them to friends and family UPDATE: Upon Kevin being made aware of this situation , he personnally reached out to me, apologized for the error, and made things right. I will continue to recemmend them and use them as a first choice for my future plumbing needs.

having said that, around the first of December i called to have a humidifier replaced on my furnace this was a direct replacement. same as what was on there.
i sent tech pix of unit as requested. i was quoted $800.00 to do job i declined.
i decided to do it myself how hard could it be? direct replacement. well it took me about one hour .i got a new in the box on EBAY for $175 with shipping $225.00.i think this is way out of line.

They priced a basic job 2 1/2 times competitors. They quoted this to my wife.
When I called back they drastically lower their expected price. Suck scumbags trying to rip off a woman! Absolutely will never use They came to our house in a desperate time during our flood; but the work received was subpar from there.
First time they came they didn't finish the piping all the way and our crawl space flooded in addition to the basement. Since then they have been back 4 times with no solution and a lot of money spent.
They pipes they installed are still leaking randomly when we shower or it rains. Last time they came the worker was upset because the machine he had to bring is heavy and bulky and made it a point to let us know "how much of a pain in the ass it is to bring it down the stairs".
It has been an ongoing 3 month problem we have dealt with now. We may be looking into different companies to help us now.

He assumed that because I am elderly and disabled, I would not notice that he switched the fifty dollar seats that came with the toilets with $15 seats that don't even fit. What is it about plumbers that they want to rip off the disabled and why did Szabo and Kennedy both think I was so stupid? Not that it matters, but I'm a college professor with a PhD from Notre Dame.
I am appalled thinking how often these rip-off artists must succeed. I have given this company two five star ratings in the past for the excellent work they did at my home.

Nick showed up promptly on a Saturday and gave it a look. It seemed I had a pipe issue that needed to be dug up in my front yard to clean/repair.
He was upfront about it and we set a time for the crew to come over and dig it out to fix. I was looking at 3k.
Sucked but had to do it. When Nick and Ramon showed up, they were professional and quickly got to work.
After doing a good amount of digging, they realized that actually the pipe was ok - I had a blockage. My 3k repair turned into a $125 service call.
These are honest professionals. They will treat you right.

I called Monday morning to have some one come out to replace a leaking sillcock and check out a loud sump pump. Logan and Todd arrived exactly at 9am Tuesday and got to work.
The sillcock was replaced quickly and no longer leaks, just in time for car washing season. They installed a new quiet check valve on the sump pump piping, which has dramatically quieted the run cycle after the pump has finished.
All of those items, including walking the house to ask a question, locating the water shut off valve, and the final paperwork was completed in less than 90 minutes. I have also had the same team out about 6 months ago to install a new back up sump pump, and that experience was just as good.
Very professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all of my questions that I had. This will be my plumber of choice for as long as I'm in Homer Glen.
One of the WORST companies that we have dealt with. Szabo came recommended by a family member, so we had high hopes.
We had at least 2 appointments where no Szabo employee bothered to show up. Multiple appointments that led to no solution.
Complete unprofessionalism and a total disregard to customer service. The final straw came when the owner himself blew us off after making promises to "cure our concerns".
I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company to fulfill any of your needs, particularly if you value your time, patient and money because clearly this company does not. Below is a timeline of approximately 2 weeks dealing with this company and we're in the same position as where we started.
Plumber came out on February 22 and rodded a drain that had been causing a bad smell for a few days. Smell went away for a day or two and then came back, so we set up an appointment for February 26th from 3-5PM.
NO ONE SHOWED. At 630PM on February 26th, we received a call that Szabo had overbooked and didn't have anyone to assist us.
We rescheduled for March 2. Plumber came out and said we needed a smoke test and that only the owner can do smoke tests.
Set up an appointment for March 4th, between 1-3PM. AT 12:18PM on March 4th, got a call from Szabo that they didn't realize the owner had to do the test and that he wasn't available.
Rescheduled for March 7th. At around 130PM, got a call that someone else was going to come do the test at 2PM.
Plumber arrived at 3PM and stated he didn't have enough smoke bombs to perform the test and that he had told Szabo that he didn't have enough smoke bombs to do the test, yet they sent him anyway. After speaking with another employee via telephone about our concerns, Kevin Szabo called and promised to cure our concerns, refund what we paid for work done on February 22nd and scheduled to come to our home on March 8th at 11AM.
There was no show or call by Kevin Szabo or any other employee by 12:05PM and WE ended up calling them and told them not to bother showing up. Called Kevin Szabo Jr Plumbing due to a leaky faucet in my rental property and I couldn't even shut off the water valves because they were so old.
They sent out Ryan who did an amazing job replacing the valves and the faucet. Ryan showed up when expected and their prices were extremely reasonable.
I would definitely use them again. These guys are awesome! I've had some negative experiences with previous plumbers- these guys made up for it.

I would Highly recommend them for your job! Hired this crew a week in advance to clean out some pipes that were backed up in ensuite bathroom. They provided a 3 hour window and even with the week ahead appt, ended up arriving 45 mins late.
Took only 30 minutes to clear out with only labor on their side and cost pretty expensive at $250. I guess they charge $500/hour for labor.

We called Kevin Szabo Jr Plumbing to clean out the catch basin and repair the collar for this basin. Unfortunately, I walked out to observe the process and locked myself out of the house, but lucky for me, I had Nick to the rescue.
Nick not only did a great job on the catch basin, but also tried to find a way to get me back in the house. He then gave me his cell phone to call my niece to come over to let me back in.
He was an efficient tradesman and also concerned about my safety. When he was ready to leave and reluctant to leave me alone, I assured him that help was on the way any minute.

Highly recommend! I encountered an emergency water leak under the kitchen sink today. It was definitely not something I wanted to deal with on a Sunday afternoon.I did a quick Google search for an emergency service and found Kevin.
I made the call to the Oak Lawn office and the dispatcher said one of their plumbers would call me in a few. I received a call back in less than 10 minutes and Kevin said he would be at my place in about half an hour.

I asked Kevin if he knew any electricians because I wanted to make electrical improvements as well. Kevin told me that he just got his electrical certification.
He sent out Sean (experienced, licensed electrician), Bob (trainee), and Chris (from the plumbing job). The original job evolved into something more than I originally anticipated, but they made improvements that gave me peace of mind that the house was much safer and efficient for our tennants.
Quick repair! And quickly scheduled too! Ryan called to come earlier then scheduled but I wasn't available yet. Called me back during the repair window time and was on his way! Perfect timing! Ryan was very nice and informative.
Appreciate the time! Late Saturday night and we discovered the hot water heater wasn't working. The next day I tried to get in touch with a local plumber, but being Sunday, couldn't reach him.
Someone suggested this company and when I called they couldn't have been nicer. He explained the plumber was finishing a job, then would come get a water heater to bring with him, in case mine needed replaced, quoted a price for that replacement, and that there was an extra charge because it was Sunday.
I had no problem with the extra charge, I was just happy to have someone come out. I asked what if the water heater didn't need replaced, and he said then we'd just pay for the call, parts, and the extra charge.
Ryan came out and pretty quickly determined the problem was the pilot light. He got it relit, and made sure we were getting hot water before he got ready to go.
He was so friendly and polite, and gave us a card with not only the company's number, but his own as well. Thrilled to have found a company I will feel comfortable calling on if needed in the future.
Had to call them for a backed up laundry room drain. Called this am came early afternoon.
Always nice guys. Trees in the line tossed it out and I trust it is fixed.
This is not the first time I have used them. I've had them here before for other problems.

Monday, we called back and he said he'd be there at noon. No show and no phone call.
Worst customer service ever. If he couldn't or wouldn't do the work, he should have said so.
No water for five days and nothing to show for it. Now we need to call someone else out.
