MTZ Plumbing and its owner Hector are a very welcome exception in both regards. To begin with, they're highly professional.
They have been doing plumbing work at my house for two years, and they always come exactly within the 2-hour interval we agreed to, with text reminders and phone calls if they are closer to the end of the window. Hector is also a highly skilled, knowledgeable plumber.
For instance, he successfully installed Hansgrohe faucets with replacement cartridges and handles when other plumbers claimed that they couldn't do so, and more parts were necessary. Lastly, he is fair and reasonable with his pricing, as well as any further issues that crop up with larger jobs.
Again, all Yelp plumbing companies have high average ratings, but MTZ Plumbing is the best I've come across in the Bay Area. This is about my plumbing issue, all my drains were backing up at that time.
It was around 7pm and wanted to fix it ASAP and picked MTZ through Google search. MTZ side came earlier than expected and job was done quick.
Here are some information for other customers though. I had to hear too much warning "you still have to pay even if it is not successful" and made me decide to go or stop, payment for visiting is still pending.
I asked him to snake the pipe and resolved right away. He named the price and I paid the same price of my TV, maybe it is regular for night time.
Can't complain as I agree that "the real price will be decided on site depending on situation". He also kept recommending that digging the ground will be the best option for any of coming issue but w/ price of 10x I've just paid.
Well again, he maybe right I maybe wrong, just sharing my experience. A pressure assist vessel required replacement.
Although I'd received the parts from the manufacturer I was not able to instill it do to an injury. Hector gave me a good price and estimated it would take about an hour.
Almost one hour to the minute, now the toilet flushes perfectly without leaking water. Excellent job.

Called the number on Friday, spoke to Alex who was super informative and friendly and gave us ideas on what the issue could possibly be. We scheduled an appt for Monday (Alex mentioned weekdays could affect pricing) and within 30 minutes of giving us a call the day of, he showed up without struggle to find our home.
He found the issue and unfortunately we had to replace the entire water heater, but Alex made the process super smooth and easy. Him and Hector were there for less than a few hours and holy moly, we were impressed! Alex explained how to maintain the unit to hopefully make it last up to 20 years! He gave us some super useful tips and we're so thankful he helped us save money.
I'm so glad we don't have to shower with ice cold/boiled water anymore We were attempting to replace an old shower faucet cartridge so we can easily turn on and turn off the water. It took too much time and strength to push and pull that lever, especially for kids and the elderly.
We were able to pull the core out, but the rest of the cartridge was still stuck in the valve. With our small puller, extracting the whole cartridge was not an easy job.
The 45-year old original Moen cartridge in this faucet was literally part of the valve, stuck on so tight. With the core out and the valve exposed, we couldn't turn back on the main water line until we could 1) somehow replace the cartridge or 2) replace the entire valve.
Doh! On a Sunday too! In comes MTZ to the rescue. In the San Jose area, there were only a handful of 24/7 plumbers available on a Sunday.
The only quick answer I got was from MTZ. Before agreeing to their service on the phone, they went over their pricing and the additional Sunday service fee.
Of course I agreed because we needed to turn on the main water line that night. The MTZ van arrived 25 minutes after the initial phone call.
Hector was very professional, with shoe covers and mask. He knew exactly what the problem was and explained what the options are IF he couldn't extract the cartridge.
Using his industrial-strength cartridge puller with a lot of elbow grease and time, Hector was able to pull out the old stubborn cartridge without ruining the valve. He made the impossible possible, and solved our problem.
Before Hector left, we replaced the cartridge with a new one, turned on the main water line into the house, and made sure our shower faucet worked properly with no leaks. Now the water is easy to turn on and off.
Like new! I requested for a quote and Hector responded immediately, he came out the same day to see the leak. Hector was polite, responsive.
However, the quote I received was 5 times more expensive than any other 4 quotes I received. I just cannot recommend this plumber no matter how competent.
Please do your work, check around, get a few quotes to compare before you jump in to make a decision. I have used them many times before and they always have a great attitude and always clean up after themselves great service is hard to find these days.
OMG - can't tell you how relieved i felt when Hector from MTZ Plumbing showed up - I had a 3 day under the kitchen sink leak. Hector - one of the co-owners - not just fixed the leak but explained how it happened and fixed it in a way that there is a shut-off valve now to my water filtration system.
Super professional - customer service is as good as it gets - there is a reason this company is all 5 stars! They are also 24 hour service - the other companies recommended by the Home Warranty company say they will get back the next day - not good when you have an active leak! 12/1/21 UPDATE Alex from MTZ Plumbing came out to connect my water filter and found and fixed a leak. Apparently that leak was probably there for awhile but only showed up after the replacement water filter was installed.

She suggested I call MTZ I had what I thought was a mainline clog backing up in the shower. I called MTZ and Angela and gave an estimate over the phone which included a discount for my daughter's referral and a Senior discount pending inspection.
Tim arrived, assessed the situation as a shower clog rather than my diagnosis of a mainline clog which plagued my house almost annually. Tim's solution was to run a cable machine down the shower drain and if that didn't unclog the shower, he would use a larger rooter down the mainline at no additional charge to guarantee a functional shower.
Tim was right in his diagnosis and mainline cleaning was not needed. To add frosting to the cake, the bill was $25 less than expected! For comparison, the "Big Box" Rooter service offered free estimates.
When the BB technician arrived, he warned me that their new rates were the highest, with a starting point of $500 plus. Forget it! MTZ completed the job for less than 1/2 "BB" starting point.

MTZ Plumbing completed a 100 foot new exterior drain line along the side of my home. Replacing old 2" lightweight PVC line with new 4" & 6" heavy duty PVC.
This required cutting through about 30 ft of cement, digging around roots, and running the new line safely around my PGE & Water inputs within the yard. Bottom line: The team was excellent.
They arrived every day ready, and carefully navigated the dig. When it came to laying the new line and drain basins, they included me in the decisions and carefully detailed what they had in mind to compare it to what I have envisioned for the placement of wells, etc.
Great listeners and great team to see each day during the job. 2 months later, the line works perfectly after the first storm of the season.

I contacted the Rinnai, the manufacturer, and they gave me a list of plumbers in my area that are certified to work on tankless water heaters. I called two of them but only spoke to one.

The other plumber did not call me back after I left two voice mails. I called MTZ Plumbing and I was immediately connected with a live person.

My kitchen sink was clogged. I scheduled appointment with MTZ Plumbing at the midnight and I received response at 5am on last Sunday.

The problem was not as simple as I expected. It was not the p-trap but somewhere deep in the pipe collapsed (under the concrete slab).

I would definitely recommend This is now my go to plumber! I first contacted them when my ten year old kitchen faucet died (it was leaking constantly). I called 4 different companies and they were they only ones who actually answered on the first try.
Everyone is always very professional and polite, which I appreciate. The first replacement faucet I bought was a dud, so I had to buy *another* one and have them come back to do another install.
Although I had to pay for 2 installs (which I thought very fair since they spent a lot of time installing and then uninstalling again), they were very upfront the whole time about prices and costs of various options and took the time to walk me through everything. They even helped me choose a better faucet.
That faucet randomly stopped working a month later, they came next morning, got it to work in 5 min and didn't charge me. An hour later my water heater stopped working! 72 Degrees Cooper Brothers (another excellent company) recommended MTZ to take a look at a gas pipe problem. Hector picked up the phone right away, was very nice, ask some questions, then sent Tim to my house the same day! Tim came out, remediated the gas pressure problem, looked around, found some other issues, took some pictures, and talked about some things to look out for in the future.
Tim will get some quotes for us, and we'll use MTZ when the time comes. I was hesitant to write this review, because it feels like I stumbled on a secret that I want to keep for myself.
I decided to play a little "Yelp Roulette", and submitted a request for plumbing services to contact me. The idea being that the first one to contact me wins.
Hector at MTZ contacted me right away, and told me someone could be there later in the morning. Tim shows up in a mask, and put on two footies before entering the house.
I explain to him that I have a leaking faucet in one bathroom, and possible a 2nd leak in another bathroom. He goes in to take a look, and 10 minutes later, shows me the problems in the 2 sinks.
He tells me he'll be back in a few minutes with a quote. When he comes back, he shows me 4 different quotes of what he can do, ranked from highest priced to lowest.
I opt for something in the middle. He goes out to get some parts, and from the time he arrives, until the time he leaves, he has taken only about 2 hours.
I asked him about how long he has been working at MTZ, and he told me that the company is brand new, opening up at the beginning of the year. That explains the low count of reviews, but the 5-star rating (as of today) is true.
The professionalism and service was awesome! Highly recommend! MTZ did a great job all around on a full sewer re-pipe of our home. We had 65 yr old galvanized / iron sewer lines in our home that were starting to corrode, so we called a few plumbers on yelp to come diagnose the issue.
MTZ responded in minutes and Tim came out for a free inspection within a couple days. He spent about a hour inspecting our whole plumbing system (the two other plumbers who provided estimates spent about 10 minutes).
After his inspection, he explained everything he found, shared pictures from under the house, provided 3 project proposals at different price points, and explained the benefits of each. It never felt like he was trying to up-sell anything that was unnecessary, but rather providing information and options.
Tim was also super responsive after he left, answering all of my many follow-up questions and working with me to finalized the plan. We ended up doing a full sewer-side re-pipe from the drains to the property line.
They worked with us to schedule all the work while we were out of town for a week and coordinating everything through final inspection to be completed before we got back. They sent photos from under the house showing all the new connections and lines, and also showing that they completely cleaned up our crawlspace of the junk previous contractors had left behind.
There were a couple of very minor issues that needed follow-up when we returned, but Hector came out the next day on a Sunday to fix those last issues. Overall, they did a great job and were extremely professional and responsive.
Highly recommend MTZ plumbing and will call them again in the future if needed. Hector of MTZ plumbing came out on short notice to fix a bathtub drain flange that had rusted some resisting removal.
Somehow in the process the underside flange nut stuck to the flange rather than the drain pipe causing the problem. Hector quickly crawled right under, removed the flange nut and installed the new flange.
It was a quick fix for him so he didn't even allow me to pay him. Not sure what else you can ask in a plumber - would definitely call again and highly recommend.
Note that I had called a different plumber who was booked for many days out so they recommended Hector. Our water heater leaked causing a leak in the kitchen soffit and ceiling.
Hector checked all possible sources of the leak. The following day I managed to get the key to the water heater closet and sure enough there was the problem.

Exceptional service and would hire for any future needs. I wanted to check if my detached garage has a working sewer line or not, but I could not find any clean out near the garage.
Hector is the only plumber who can check the sewer line from vent pipe on the roof using video camera with a reasonable price. He also helped unclog the floor drain using various tools he brought with him.

Angela at MTZ answered my call and listened to the situation thoroughly, and sent Hector the same day. Hector was super professional and knowledgeable, and made sure the work was done correctly.
Pricing is based on a fixed system so there is no haggling. He stayed until 9 pm to finish the clean out, and even cleaned up the toilet and resealed the toilet joints with silicone.
I hope I don't have drainage problems again, but if I do I will call MTZ first and ask for Hector. Hector was absolutely amazing! He was very professional in his service and provided me tips/advice on other parts of the house as he noticed issues.
A few things I appreciated about his service: 1. Clear notice of expected time of arrival.
2. Came prepared to minimize mess (i.e floor mat, buckets etc.) and cleaned up afterwards.
Other plumbers that I've used before never did this and used up my supplies at home. 3.
Explained issues clearly and his plan of actions PRIOR to starting the job. He also provided estimated time to complete the job which was accurate.
4. Very reasonable cost compared to 2 other quotes I received.

MTZ Plumbing sent a uniformed plumber very quickly free of charge to detect the leak. He arrived on-time.
Other plumbers came and didn't find any leak. With a puddle of water on the ground and the drywall damp, there was obviously a leak...
MTZ Plumbing was not afraid by the challenge and finally found the leak: I saw myself the water pouring when they were able to replicate the problem. They proposed a few options, one for $200 and another for $1,200.
I picked the cheaper one and got an appointment scheduled for the fix. The day after, another uniformed plumber showed up on-time and fixed the issue.
No leak anymore. The insurance sent an expert a few days later to assess the damages.
The expert confirmed the drywall were dried. Pro's: showed up, on-time, quick, sober, clean, professional, licensed, good communication Con's: no competitor was able to issue an estimate since they were not able to detect the leak, I cannot compare.

This was not the first time we used MTZ Plumbing service and it's always been a great and quality service provided by Tim! He was very responsive and has very flexible schedule and always accomodate our time preference, We are lucky to have found a trustworthy person (Tim) to take care of our plumbing needs as we are new here in Gilroy. He is very courteous, followed covid protocols of wearing face masks and appreciate him always wearing shoe covers as well! Very very reasonable price for the quality of work provided and he even came back to do the additional service he quoted and promised us to do as complementary service and remembered to fulfill it and not asked us anything for the service! I've had him out twice now for two separate issues. He is friendly, responsive, timely, professional, and wears slips so as to not track in any dirt.
He will explain what the problem is, what caused it, what can be done, and what the cost (and sometimes risk!) of certain actions and repairs might be before he puts the work in. First time out, he replaced the shutoff valves for my kitchen sink when I had replaced the faucet, but found I couldn't hook it up because the old shutoff values had old weird soldered copper pipes rather than a threaded hookup.
He took the time to explain where the water main shutoff was to the house, how to fix the problem, and also answered all my questions about also adding in a reverse-osmosis water filtration system while he was replacing the shutoffs. The sink works like a dream now and the water filtration system has been a game-changer, especially during quarantine where most of what we are drinking comes from the tap rather than out at work/restaurants.
The second time he came out, he fixed an issue I had with my shower leaking. He was running a little bit late, but called me multiple hours in advance to let me know so I could rearrange my schedule and he actually showed up at the new time when he said he would (professional!!).
He simply tightened up a few things, said there was no underlying problem, and didn't charge me for the ~20 minutes of service (and education on how shower valves work!). Look no further, MTZ are the guys you want Hector came to my house late during a minor plumbing emergency and did everything needed and more to make everything perfect! Great guy 100% recommended.

Then they contacted me about the possibility of showing up even earlier than expected, which was fantastic. Hector determined the problem, offered me a couple of options for repairs, and even went to Home Depot to see if he could find an exact part.
Before he left, he volunteered to check the high-pressure step-down valve on the main waterline, which he had noticed while turning off the valve so he could do his work. I was prepared for him to say, Oh, you have a problem and need this repair, too.
Instead, he confirmed that it was working fine. Who does that? Kudos.

I asked for an in person quote for: 1) the plumbing in my master bath moved over by one foot for each of my two sinks, 2) for new plumbing to be added in my garage for a utility sink, 3) the valve on one toilet replaced and 4) a drip in the shower repaired.
I was quoted $7000!! My regular licensed plumber, which I have worked with for ten years, was out of town for a month and I didn't want to wait: he had quoted me $1200 for the same job. I've decided to wait.
Make sure you get multiple bids before going with this company Thank you Hector, Tim, and Manuel! Hector is a class-act. He explained the fact I would need to re-pipe my gas line If I wanted to have adequate pressure for a tankless water heater.
It was an easy choice to go for the standard 40gal tank to avoid a very costly job and longer durability. Hector and his team worked quickly and courteously provided status throughout.
I also went with his recommendation to replace the on/off valve for the water coming into my home. We have much better water pressure as a result.

I received an estimate, but found out that they had to do more than the estimated work because it was a little more complicated than originally thought, but still only charged me the original estimate. I would not hesitant to use MTZ Plumbing again for the good work and professional experience.

Not only did I get an extremely low quote from MTZ Plumbing, but they were extremely professional and thorough. The business owner, I can't recall his name, checked all the pipes and even went underneath the crawl space to check leaks in those pipes since my father's house still had the old galvanize pipes from the 60s.
Wow, what amazing customer service. We agreed on a price to fix the leaking and after about 45 minutes, he had fixed it, but because the pipes were so old, it was still slightly leaking.
As a result, he did not want to get paid despite me asking him how much he wanted. His complete fix recommendation was going to be a little too much for us right now, but I would definitely go to them again in the future for business especially since they have a 2 year guarantee on their piping job.

We tried fixing it ourselves but it started leaking and we needed someone quick to come and fix them. Tim was swift and gave us for a free consultation, agreed to the job, and came back the next day to fix it.
Tim has done an excellent job with the softener and a small plumbing job for the water filter. He was kind enough to also guide us through a water filter installation too that wasn't part of the deal.
I would highly recommend Tim! Issue we had: tree roots have grown into the sewer pipe and had to be replaced. We did not have a clean out, so cleaning had to be attempted through a roof vent.
The 30' length of sewer pipe was filled with tiny tree roots and no way a complete cleaning could have been done. We saved $6100 by not choosing MTZ plumbing and deciding to go with some other company.

Cons: Hector gave us 2 options & their respective quotes : one was cleaning($3800) and the other option was replacement of the sewer pipe($11,600). We got few other quotes for both options through yelp.
Sorry to say that Hector's quotes were the "highest" with a huge diff. We ended up going with another company and was charged $5500 for the complete 30' replacement of sewer pipe with 2 new clean outs, with a 5 year warranty.
The guy from the other company did a perfect job of laying a new ABS pipe with pipe-burst technology(u can google, youtube video...) and did not have to dig a trench, but just dug 2 pits for that process. He also took care of the sprinkler line and water line which were in the way.
Never complained. Left the place clean and we are extremely satisfied with their work.
Tips for choosing the right contractor (our learning): First, there is no need to panic for plumbing issues, however urgent it looks to be. Please use google or any search technology to gain knowledge about your plumbing/sewer issues and all available solutions.
You might have to spend 4 or 5 hours in the net. But, it is worth it.
Otherwise, we will get over-charged for all the so-called "details" contractors share with us. We end up paying for their marketing talk and we are left to believe that the contractor took time to explain everything..., was nice..., gave us all the options etc....Due to fear or lack of knowledge, we might even end up choosing the expensive option.
The more knowledgeable we are, the more we save on our hard-earned money. It might be worth to even spend few hundred dollars on a hotel-stay during the decision making process, rather than spending thousands more on an expensive contractor.
