Review and analyze now for company Glenbrook Plumbing and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''I was very pleased with both of their employees Mike and Tony's workmanship. I have worked as a carpenter for more than 40 years and I know what a good quality job looks like.
They re-piped my house with copper in 2 days. They were very professional and left my house very clean.
I will definitely call them for any future plumbing jobs. My father was a loyal customer of Glenbrook Plumbing for years.
After he passed away, I was surprised by the expense of the invoices in his files, as well as a recent repair in one of his rental properties. The tenant, who grew more comfortable with me, confided in me that the Glenbrook Plumbing representative tried to 'oversell' him on needless services: "What do you care? You're not paying for it." They took advantage of my father, a kind-hearted retired college professor, for a decade.
This is extremely disturbing on a number of levels and I am starting here, by letting folks know. Going to take this up with the BBB and look into legal options, as well.
This is a rave review! Glenbrook Plumbing installed a new water heater a couple of years ago for me, so when I suddenly stopped having hot water, I contacted them, spoke with Bill Jr. who tried to get someone out that day, but it was Monday morning so I was fine when Rob arrived the next day.
He got something working because I had some hot water, but he expressed concerns in several ways, said he would consult with Bill Jr. When he returned, he told me that I needed a hot water heater specialist, provided name & number, read off the model # & serial # for ease.
He even went ahead & replaced the lightbulb that I couldn't reach where the heater was. And he apologized that did all he could but that I would need a specialist.
Well...with all that, I will DEFINITELY call them for general plumbing problems in the future. Very very satisfied customer here! My sump pump broke a couple days ago and the backup had to take over.
Unfortunately with all the snow melting and all the rain that we got, the backup pump simply couldn't keep up. We originally got another company to replace the pump and thought that the issue was resolved.
They said we needed to replace the whole system and how the pump replacement was just a temporary solution until we got the new system. It seemed to work since water was no longer overflowing but the water level in the pit still seemed high.
Today the alarms started beeping for one reason or another so we decided to call Glenbrook plumbing. Bill came out to look at everything and he mentioned that the sump pump wasn't working.
Yes, the same pump that was replaced a couple days ago already broke. He offered to replace it but suggested to contact the other company since it might still be under warranty.
So we contacted the other company that originally replaced it to see if they can fix it. Keep in mind that we already paid $1400 to the other company just a couple days ago to replace the pump that's already broken after only a couple days.
They said that it broke because it was working too hard and that we really need to just get a whole new system. They quoted us $13,000 to get this new system put in and we said we would think about it.
We called Glenbrook again and Bill came back out to replace the broken pump. Bill basically gave my brother a crash course on sump pumps and replaced the broken pump for $476! The water in the pit immediately drained and all 3 pumps are now functioning! Bill and Glenbrook Plumbing are getting my business for all my plumbing needs and will be recommending them to the home owners association in the event that any of the other residents ever need help! My wife and I were in a bind.
She was scheduled for surgery in four days and then to return home after a two-day stay in the hospital. Out of the blue our toilets wouldn't flush and our sinks wouldn't drain.
We called Glenbrook Plumbing. It turned out that the pipe between our house and the sewer at the street was blocked by gravel that had worked its way into a couple of breaks in the pipe.
Alan and Arturo faced a very difficult situation that was compounded by the fact that the only cleanout for that line was in our finished basement. (We have since installed a cleanout outside of the house.) They had to very gingerly drain the water that had built up in the drainpipes in the house before they could tackle routing out the sewer line.
Because the problem in that line was gravel rather than simply tree roots, it took them very hard work over two days to get the line to drain. They finished the work the afternoon before my wife went into the hospital, and she was able to return home directly after her hospital stay.
If they hadn't done the job they did, she would have had to spend several days in a nursing home until we could have working drains and toilets in the house. I have used Glenbrook Plumbing over many years.
Recently had them to correct leak under kitchen sink and rework plumbing for dishwasher. Did great job.
Definitely recommend. First and last time using this Glenbrook plumbing outfit, beware of the chatty plumber, the job should have been done in 3.5 hours instead 5.25 all the talking, and he broke my toilet , trying to tighten a toilet handle and it had nothing to do with the job he was there for a supply lines and angle stops , and pretty much said it was my fault.
and then said they gave me the toilet at cost and turned around a charged 6.00 for a .99 cent tube of caulk for a small bead around it and 10.00 for 2 bolts. I guess they are in business to come 1 time rake you over the coals and never come back and to upsell everything plumbing in your home.
I will be happy to answer any questions future customers want answered over this truth that happened . My advice go to the next plumber and never use this outfit ever.
What a disgrace to the trades. Fast, fair and reasonable.
They replaced an ejector pump for today for 80% less than the first plumber I had out quoted me. I was recommended this plumbing company by family.
Discussing the nature of the project I needed completed (new sump pump/ ejector pump/battery back up sump pump) with Bill on the phone and through email was pleasant and professional. He was able to price quote me with products he would supply and/or if I were to supply to give me options without breaking the bank.
The idea of working with a company who is not trying to up-charge me and who is fairly priced is refreshing. Scheduling was also easy, and worked well with my schedule.
They were able to come out the next day. The technician/plumber Bill who came out to the house was friendly and knowledgeable.
I appreciated that he also brought and wore the shoe covers and took away the old materials with him. Although Bill made the job look easy, hiring this professional was definitely the better idea.
I would definitely recommend to anyone with plumbing issues. Glenbrook Plumbing was not able to help me with my particular water heater, but I appreciate their candor in letting me know that up front and giving me suggestions on how to find a plumber that can help.
Very good service! Bill Jr came out the same day for an estimate. He was polite and listened to my concerns, following up with a written estimate via email for the work.
I was able to get quite a bit of work scheduled the same week. The price was fair and they were patient in explaining the details to me.
The plumber that came out was fast and straightforward as we discussed the details. They gave me advice on the best way to proceed and left the final decision to me - always a plus in my book.
Really satisfied with their work! I have changed my rating do to what I feel is being over charged. I have used GP for years and for the most part have been pleased.
Unfortunately I have had an ongoing shower issue in which the shower was presenting a leak from the back side of the granite running down from a panel in back of the on/off valve. GP came out numerous times over the span of a few months to figure out the issue as the leak continued and spread.
In the meantime, I had the granite walls cleaned and re-sealed, the granite and glass joints re-caulked as well all the hardware re-caulked where it meets the granite, the granite floor mortar was removed and redone, and finally a hole cut in two places in the drywall on the opposite side of the shower wall to see if the leak could be detected from that point which it wasn't. I have yet to have the drywall repaired and the wall painted.
Same person came out to try and figure out our dilemma each time. From the start I (who has zero expertise in plumbing) suggested removing the panel behind the on/off lever to see if that is where the leak was occurring since this is where the water developed a water mark which was getting worse each time I used the shower.
The plumber did not listen to me and said it couldn't be the problem and to continue using the shower. I didn't continue using that side of the shower.
I was charged each time they came to my house. I then started using the shower head on the opposite side (there are two shower heads in the same shower area) and the drip pattern on the leaking side dried up completely except on the floor of the shower under the granite tiles.
Low and behold the SAME PROBLEM started with the opposite side shower on/off lever with the same drip pattern happening AGAIN but now on the opposite wall! I called GB to voice my frustration because it was now happening with both on/off levers on opposite sides. I also voiced my frustration that the panel in back of the on/off lever was never removed to see if the leak was coming from when the water was turned on which was what I suggested from the get-go.
Finally the owner came to my home to see if he could figure out the ongoing issue. As it turns out I was correct, the leak was occurring behind the on/off lever panels on both sides of the shower.
If they would have done this on the FIRST VISIT, I wouldn't have incurred the above mentioned expenses in trying to figure out the issue with various vendors providing their services. I just received yet another bill from GP for parts and service for their final visit.
While I agree I should pay for the parts, are you kidding me in charging for a service call after previously charging me for 3 visits and not rectifying the leak the first 3 visits? Bad choice in charging me for service the final time, after all the aggravation and additional needless expenses I incurred, the final service portion of the bill should have been comped. It is time to take my business elsewhere.
I've unfortunately had to use Glenbrook plumbing more that I would like, they've fixed many issues for me - including leaky faucets, faulty toilets, hot water heater replacement, ejector pump failure (2X), clogged toilets (I have boys that like to flush things down the toilet) and most recently a free standing tub with leaky pipes. Bill Jr.
Bill Sr. And many of their employees did a fine job.
Prices seem fair for the Northshore. They are prompt and dependable which matters most, especially in a plumbing crisis! I took off of work and waited the 2 1/2 hour window that Glenbrook Plumbing gave me.
They called after I left for work and said they would be there in 45 mins. I called another company.
When we called our "go to" local plumber to install a Kraus KPF-1602 faucet (replacing the Grohe currently installed) we were told there would be a $69 charge to send the plumber out. We were blindsided with a ridiculously high quote to install a kitchen faucet.
Not only that, the plumber seemed nervous and uncomfortable with the install claiming it was "too tight" and the faucet "too high end" and might require two people. We called Glenbrook and they did the install perfectly in an hour ($160).
Rob, who did the install was friendly and helpful and didn't shy away from a bit of a challenge which turned out to be a non-challenge - there was even enough time to call the manufacturer about some tweaks and features of the new faucet. Am very happy with Glenbrook, our new go-to plumbers! I've used them twice, and couldn't be happier.
Both times were emergencies and they came out same day and fixed the problems. Fair price and great service.
Based on my initial experience with Glenbrook Plumbing, I thought I had found my go to plumbing service. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience the last time I used this business.
I'm giving 3 stars instead of 1 because the owner and his son are phenomenal, and I would trust these guys with any plumbing project. But the same cannot be said for the employee who worked on our toilet.
He didn't fix it, and he made the problem worse. If you use Glenbrook Plumbing, I recommend asking for Bill Jr.
or Bill Sr.; these guys are knowledgeable, dedicated, and their invoices include reasonable charges. Nice work, but VERY expensive.
My main sewer drain had clogged after 30 years of living in our home. Ralph and Alan arrived on time and quoted me a price of $385 for up to an hour of "rooting" and $47 per quarter hour after that.
They proceeded to clean the main drain and remove roots for over 100 feet. They were polite and professional and cleaned up after themselves.
They were at the house for 2 1/4 hours and charged me $645.00. After the fact, I looked up a home service cost calculator program on the internet for the work that I had done.
The job cost calculator says that a 2.4 hour sewer line job in my area should cost $160.00. Purchased a kitchen faucet from Home Depot.
on Tuesday. Paid for installation with a soft promise for installation by Friday.
After not hearing from HD's contractor, cheked Yelp for recommendations. Yelp kept me away from another Glenview plumber, but insufficient coverage on other plumbers in Glenview.
Took a risk on Glenbrook Plumbing without any recommendation. Agreed to 1:00 p.m.
service call on Friday. Asked for estimate from receptionist and received a soft estimate.
Co, rep arrived at my home EXACTLY at 1:00 p.m. Completed job in less time than estimate.
I saved $56 compared to what HD quoted. Rep dId an excellent job.
I am extremely satisfied and would use again based on this experience. Had the clog of all clogs deep in the wall behind a sink.
They were able to get the snake in, around a 90 degree turn 2 feet back in the wall, and open up the line. I did not have a good experience with Glenbrook Plumbing.
They fixed my sink, but when recaulking it, did not take the time to do the entire job, so it looked shoddy. When I called to complain and said that I wanted it to be redone, they came back out to correct it.
I paid the bill that day, but then I received a bill in the mail for the second service. When I called to find out if that was a mistake, they said that I owed them for the service because when they originally did the work, they only fixed the part of the sink that was broken.
Apparently it was my fault for not being there to see the work being done originally, and that I should have known that they only worked on half of the sink (despite it never being mentioned in the previous bill, nor in the subsequent phone conversations, nor by the repair person who came to correct the original work). When I explained that this was the first time anyone had communicated to me that only part of the sink had been caulked, Bill again said that it was my fault for not being present on the day.
Even though I was present for the second repair, they chose to send a different person than had done the original work, so I couldn't have a conversation with anyone to understand what was being done this time vs the original repair. Either way, shoddy job originally, complete lack of accountability, and lack of customer concern.
I would recommend that you look to hire another plumber.'''.
