Review and analyze now for company Mikes Chicago Plumbing and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Mike's done a fair amount of work for us now, and he comes out as soon as he can when we have a problem. He proposes work conservatively and offers options to go further but doesn't push them.
Among what he's done for us- he spent an Easter weekend excavating our front lawn for an emergency service line replacement, setup a new forced-exhaust water heater for us, and replaced an old drum trap with a P-trap along with a rusting-out drainpipe. We're happy with all the work he's done.
I called Mike's Plumbing to unclog a drain pipe. The plumber showed up and determined there wasn't a clog in the pipe without even checking the actual pipe.
He blamed the AC unit, saying it was pooling water due to a bad coil. I asked him if he could send a camera down the pipe just to be sure, but he insisted it was the AC unit.
This ended up costing $165 for the visit and diagnosis. On Mike's Plumbing's advice, we called an AC tech, who came out and checked the unit.
It wasn't pooling water and there wasn't anything wrong with it. Unlike Mike's Plumbing, he at least cut the pipe to check it, and water immediately began pouring out.
The AC guy was not able to unclog the pipe and said we'd need a plumber. Charge for his visit was $89.
We got a plumber from a different company (2 Plumbers) to come out since Mike's didn't do anything the first time but charge us nearly $200 for a misdiagnosis. 2 Plumbers determined the drain pipe was clogged.
They used a riding machine to rod the pipe and open the line. Then they refit the pipe.
I emailed Mike's to ask for a full or partial refund of the $165 for the initial visit since they misdiagnosed the issue. Radio silence.
I emailed them again. Never got a response.
By not checking the pipe at all and suggesting we needed an AC person, we were not only out $165, but then an additional $89 for an AC/heat tech who wasn't needed, then of course the second plumber visit. 2 Plumbers arrived and fixed the issue in half an hour.
I understand people make mistakes, but this negative review for Mike's is due to the lack ANY kind of response from them when I emailed with my complaint. The service that Mike offers is top notch.
There was an emergency plumbing work that I needed to get done immediately. Reaching out to Mike was the best thing that could have happened.
He understood the urgency, was polite, professional, and a solution oriented person. I had called another Chicago plumbing service before reaching out to Mike, and that other service gave me mixed messages of being able to do the job but ended up not being able to show up.
This gave me a service to compare Mike's business with. Mike and his services are dependable, reliable and timely.
He earned my trust with his quality service and impressively was able to finish the job that night. Mike is a person of his words, fixed the root of the problem with ease, and saved lots of headaches.
I definitely would use his expertise again. Thank you! Responsive, quick, and high-quality work.
What a relief to find a plumber who really knows what he is doing and takes pride and care in doing the job right! I called with an issue, and Mike offered an easy at home fix over the phone. Very happy to have his advice.
I first hired Mike for a water heater installation in 2017. Since then, I have hired him a couple more times, including this week, when my unsuccessful self-installation of a new faucet suddenly left me without a working kitchen sink.
As always, he responded immediately, and he was able to come right out and make the installation. His promptness and courtesy are matched by his expertise and pricing.
Highest recommendation. We called Mike at 3am and he got to our Rogers Park apartment in 20 minutes.
Unbelievably fast service. Our bath pipe exploded, and in a panic, we called Mike.
Within 5 minutes of being in the apartment, he shut the water off. Highly recommended!! Mike and his team are incredible!!! I had a leak on thanksgiving and he came within 20 minutes and fixed the issue.
Mike is trustworthy and honest. Price was incredibly fair.
I recommend him 100%!! Mike has done a lot of work on my place. He is professional and gets the job done quickly.
What I really like too is that he is direct about cost and quality. You know what you are getting for the price (which is always reasonable!).
He's a great guy and has always gone above and beyond for us including when we call him panicked about some possible plumbing emergency! Thanks mike!!! Mike and his company are knowledgeable professionals that perform exceptional work. We had a major home repair emergency late in the evening.
Mike saved us by coming straight out and again by kindly fitting us in the next day into his busy schedule to complete the work for us given the situation we were in. Along with the repairs, Mike performed testing to ensure the quality of his work and waited until we were able to turn everything back on.
I highly recommend Mike's Chicago Plumbing to any homeowner. We have used Mike for over 10 years and he has done an excellent job each time we've used his service.
We moved into a new home and within a month our basement flooded. We called Mike and he installed a sump pump system that required cement removal, installation and clean up.
The job was done flawlessly and needless to say we have no issues with flooding in our basement. Today, after 10 years of use we called Mike to install a new sump pump and again the job was done perfectly.
Thank you Mike and your team!! My tenants in Chicago woke up one morning with no hot water, a few months ago, and Mike came to examine the problem within a couple of hours. He was professional, courteous, explanatory and rectified the situation.
A week ago, free of charge, he came to my place in the suburbs and adjusted my backup sump pump. Because of his complimentary service and advice I've been reading, online, about the importance of a primary and secondary sump pump.
I will always patronize this business for my plumbing needs & highly recommend that others follow suit. A person who took us for a $930 ride and never completed the job, nor did he guarantee his work.
We should have shopped around, because he took advantage of our not knowing going rates. SEE PIC of INVOICE.
Shame on us. An unsuccessful rod and camera cost us that much.
He entered our house without our permission, and made a scene in front of our house when we cancelled what would have been another $450 rodding on top of the INVOICE below. Consider yourself warned.
Our outdoor faucet was leaking last Saturday and we worried we wouldn't be able to find a plumber right away since it was after the snow storm. I called Mike around 10:15am and he was over in 5 minutes in a face mask to assess.
He used duct tape to stop the flow temporarily and said our faucet needed to be replaced and he would be back. He came back around 11:30am and brought a colleague who even shoveled our snow! He installed the new faucet in less than 30 Minutes and took our payment via Zelle.
Mike's Plumbing did a major replacement of plumbing lines in my basement, installed a shower and hookups for the rest of a bathroom, did a great job on a tight timeline, cleaned everything up and made sure it was to our satisfaction. His team is responsive and fairly priced.
Mike makes sure things are done right and to code. We recommend! Mike did a great job unclogging my kitchen sink.
He was fast, friendly, and super knowledgeable. Highly recommend! Mike is an honest, caring, and incredibly professional plumber.
He took his time to explain everything he was doing. We bought a new home and instantly had some major sewage draining issues undisclosed to us.
He came out immediately and diagnosed the issue. His work is flawless and he's priced fair and honest.
Use Mike if you want quick and professional serice from a fair an honest plumber. I called Mike for a bathroom emergency.
He stopped by as soon as he had time and fixed my problem. He did a great job.
2 weeks later I had a problem with my faucet in my kitchen and he came the next evening and did a fantastic job. I am thankful I found Mike because it's hard to find plumbers who do smaller emergency jobs at condos.
Mike is fantastic, don't hesitate to call him. He answered my initial call, confirmed my texts, gave me a rough estimate over the phone, and arrived on time.
(He was the 3rd plumber I called, the other two never showed up.) Mike arrived at 6 pm to unclog my bathroom sink and check my tub overflow. He was considerate, explained everything to me, was very fair with assessing the job, and did everything with a smile and a great attitude.
Mike came out on a Sunday for a clogged sink. We thought it was just from putting peels down the garbage disposal.
Turns out our 1946 Georgian had very old pipes with grease and gunk filling them almost entirely. Suffice it to say, the job was a Pandora's box and we felt apologetic that it turned into such a mess.
But he was so cheerful and insisted on staying the next 7 hours! To finish the job! He didn't even raise the price, but stuck to his original quote. Which was an incredible deal for all the labor and what he accomplished.
Even prying off those old lead pipes was nearly impossible. But he kept at it.
He also found the configuration to be too many turns and simplified it with the new pipe he installed. It goes straight down.
What a concept! We had an emergency with our rental unit on a Saturday evening and called around but no one was willing to come. Mike was a little bit further but he agreed to come.
He's knowledgeable and price was reasonable. He solved the backup sewage problem quickly but didn't stop there.
Once the sewage flowed, he continued to root out the rest of the piping. He's very fun to talk to and would trust if we have another need.
Top notch. Came out 7AM New Years Day.
Fixed 3 cracked pipes, and got a killer furnace guy out the same day. Straight shooter, no BS.
Now my go to guy. Mike is the best!! We were really in a bind and he came through for us! He came with in a few hours and did not try to take advantage of us! The day before we had someone come out and quote us $425 for the same work that Mike offered to do for $150! He was very thoughtful and a pleasure to be around.
He had sure to go above and beyond what was expected. He was friendly and took the time to explain to us what went wrong, how to fix it and basically made sure he took care of everything we asked him to do, plus more, to make sure we were absolutely taken care of.
He cleaned up his mess. If you have any plumbing needs at all, he is the guy to call! Our morning was saved! 7AM, hot shower wouldn't shut off...
Mike got the call and arrived 15 minutes later to our home in Lincolnwood. He was able to provide a temporary fix so we could go to work.
Then he conveniently came back after our workday with the parts needed to fix our shower for good - to our surprise - there was no rush/urgent fee. Very honest pricing and workmanship and good guy.
He'll be our household plumber for years to come. Got a recommendation from a friend about Mike's Plumbing.
Called Mike in the morning, and he was there in the afternoon. The sink clog job was a bit complex, and he started conservatively, and worked up, eventually solving the problem.
He was professional and polite, and I liked his working method. Highly recommended.
Mike has done a few jobs for us and each time he was on time, explained things well, was very professional and was dedicated to completing the job even if it took longer than expected. I thought his fees were fair and even recommended that we wait on one repair because it wasn't urgent right now.
He was right. I would definitely hire him again for our next plumbing needs.
One of the jobs I called him for I was really in a bind and he was able to come over the same day. Nice guy and would definitely call on him again.
My water heater died and Mike added me on to the end of his day and showed up at 7:00 pm when I'm sure he'd rather be home with his family. He came back in the morning and replaced the water heater before any other plumber could even make a first appointment.
And he gave us a great price! We had several issues before with an ejector pump and some clogs. Each time Mike showed up soon after calling him and fixed the problem.
He is super nice and works quickly. Definitely recommend him.
Mike came out to fix a bothersome basement toilet. He was prompt, personable and very fair.
I would not hesitate to use him again and highly recommend him! Mike has come through for us in several plumbing emergencies. He is always professional, knowledgeable and provides service quickly.
He came through for me last week when my hot water heater was leaking into the unit below. He was able to evaluate the problem and help me get a new water heater quickly.
I like his calming personality too. Plumbing emergencies can be stressful for homeowners and Mike's attitude helps me feel like all will be alright.
At midnight last night I dropped by to check on the house I just bought to find that it had not been winterized and the water pipes had frozen and once thawed, one had burst. Cold water was cascading down the wall and, through the floor boards into my basement.
The valve that controls the main from the street was rusted in place and would not turn to shut off the water flow. After foolishly waiting hours for the city of Chicago to come turn off the water main, I called Mike.
It was 0330 in the morning. Mike answered his phone and was on site in 35 minutes.
He cut the water line and inserted a new length of pipe and shut off valve. Problem solved.
He told me immediately what the repair would cost and worked quickly to make the repair. He is a very friendly man and he got me out of a huge jam in the middle of the night.
Thanks Mike. At 5:30 am my neighbor called me to tell me that water was gushing out of my garage.
Sure enough, a pipe had burst and was gushing water like a fire hydrant directly onto a wall full electrical wires and electrical panel. My husband was out of town and I had no idea how to turn off the water to our building (4 Unit Condo, plus Coach house).
In a panic, I googled "emergency plumber" and Mike's Plumbing was at the top of the search, so I called him. Mike answered immediately, and was on the scene within 20 minutes.
He was friendly, professional, told me how much the repair would cost and fixed the pipe quickly. By 8:30 a.m., the issue was resolved and I was on my way to work.
Later that evening one of my neighbors who lives in the coach house did not have running water. So at 11:30 p.m., on that very same day that I called again and Mike answered immediately.
He walked me through how to resolve the issue over the phone. He then called me back around midnight to make sure everything was OK and offered some advice on how to ensure my pipe won't burst again.
I feel very lucky that my google search led me to Mike's Plumbing. I give him the highest recommendation and will call him for all of our future plumbing needs.
Thank you Mike! Came for emergency on Mother's Day. Washer would not turn off and the shut off valves (ancient) were frozen so we could not shut the supply.
I had to turn off main water. He came, went out to get the needed parts and replaced both shut-offs in less than an hour.
Very decent price for a holiday Sunday! Left this review on Google but figured I'd drop it on Yelp as well.........Relatively new home owner here (we moved in August last year). Hadn't had any real plumbing issues yet in the house until about a week or 2 ago.
Suddenly when we washed laundry the basement slop sink would back up a little and super slowly go down. Tried to plunge and rod it but didn't work permanently.
Later, the dishwasher started causing the backup as well. Then, the shower, then, even flushing the toilet backed it up.
Now the water was actually s*!t water brown at this point even saw toilet paper floating in it. Figured it it must for sure be the main line needed rodding after chatting with some folks and googling.
So earlier today we call Roto-Rooter, about 4 hours later guy comes out, takes a look at the access we have outside to the main, then says he can't rod it, gotta wait until tomorrow. Now it's way later and we can't use any more water (brown water backup in basement sink if we do) can't shower etc...
aaaaand back at square one. We called 3 more places to try and ask, get quotes, etc.
One place guy wanted to charge $800. Another can't come out until tomorrow.
Finally after almost giving up for the night we call Mike's. Super high reviews on Google! (4.8) BUUUUUUUT only 4 reviews we say....
Well we decided to give him a call, worth a shot we figured. Call after 10 PM on Sunday night.
(Today as of this writing, 4/23/2017). He was out here by 1105PM.
Opened up the access quick, ran in and ran all the water with me, noticed now the upstairs bathroom toilet and shower we're backing up instead of basement slop sink. (Reason was now slop sink was clogged secondarily cause of the backup of the s*!t water) he helped unclog that secondary one (AND a bit of the upstairs shower too) at no extra charge.
About 20 minutes later if even, heard the huge slurp and saw the toilet backup shoot down the drain. Everything fixed like 20-30 minutes after arrival.
Big ol rodder machine did the trick. Also explained a lot of the plumbing around the house.
Went both ways with the rodder too from the access just in case. Ended up pulling out a lot of roots and stuff (I guess usually it's roots, supposed to get the main line rodded as a preventative maintenance item every 6mo to 2 years it sounds like) Total price was better than roto rooter as well.
Friendly, professional. Plus, mentioned during the daytime and when not in a hurry like today as a preventative maintenance item it'd be even cheaper too.
Will definitely be calling again if/when another bigger problem calls for a pro. Very happy we went with a good local place even tho he only had the 4 reviews, and I'm happy to be writing the 5th.
If you need a pro, call Mike. And then leave some more good reviews! I called him to do a sewer rot.
basic project. i told him it was not a rush job.
he came after another project around 5pm. he was there maybe 45 minutes.
he dented my gutter feed. BEWARE - he doesnt have the right equipment for video (which is pretty standard with most providers) so i had no idea if what he did on the sewer rotting was of any benefit.
He charged me $300 for the service, which was too much given the time of the work and the quality of the equipment he used. I pretty much view this as flushing the money down the drain in hindsight.
I told him it was too much - he said he would 'cut me a deal' for work next time i needed something. There wont be a next time....
This guy is awesome, we had an emergency and he was there within 45 minutes. Not to mention it was almost midnight.
He does a great job and he's very reasonable, we're very pleased. Will continue to contact him in the future with any other problems.
The guy sucks. Called him that my pip broke 8 pm today and he said that he will be over.
I called him back in 1 hour and he said that he is busy and it will he a couple of hours. I hung up on him after giving him a few words.'''.
