Review and analyze now for company F.H. Furr Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning & Electrical and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Mr.
Sylvester MCDOWNEY, was excellent! He was right on time, and professional, and when he was done, the way he did the work under my kitchen sink, it gave me more room!!! Nice : ) Would highly recommend this company, and I hope you get Mr. MCDOWNEY! I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the recent service provided by your electrical team at our home.
We had requested a repair, but during the process, your team caused significant damage to our property by breaking a section of our wall. This was done without our consent or obtaining any necessary permits.
As new homeowners, we are deeply concerned and disappointed with this situation. We expect that you will cover the cost of repairing the damage immediately.
If this issue is not resolved promptly, we will be forced to seek legal advice. This level of negligence is unacceptable, and we trust that your company will take responsibility and address this matter as soon as possible.
Thanks DON'T LET THESE PEOPLE INTO YOUR HOUSE! I signed up for the $49 "plumbing inspection and water heater flush." Like many here, I was kept waiting until 6:30 pm for an appointment set between 9-noon. The 'inspection' appeared to be just an opportunity to poke around the house and upsell you.
I mentioned a shower leaked, and the guy suggested replacing the entire plumbing behind the shower. My water heater, which works well, needed to be replaced "because it's old", though the guy conceded new ones aren't much more efficient.
Ditto with my 'old' toilets. The icing on the cake: telling me two flappers in the toilets needer replacing: estimate : $500! Yes, you read the right.
$500 for two flappers that cost $5 each online and two minutes to install. Oh, and there's also a hard sell for a regular visit 'membership' - why let them in repeatedly to gin up business? Thomas Edwards, FH Furr Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, conducted a service checkup on my HVAC system.
He did a very professional inspection and documenting the entire process with photos. He was very personable and thoroughly explained the inspection results and showed photos of each step.
I'm extremely happy with Thomas and would recommend that you ask for him. Bobby This is a disreputable company.
Unfortunately, I had them rewire my house last year, upgrading from 1947, and they did a bad job. The smoke detectors still go off.
When I head to the fuse box to disable them, the labeling, shown in the picture below, makes no sense. Where are "lights" "lights" "lights" located in the house? How about "lts + rec" "recepticles"? The fuse box from 1947 made sense.
This one does not. They knocked around my mailbox when they were cleaning my drains, so it's no longer solid in the ground.
I have a service agreement with them, which I cancelled today, because I carved out 4 hours to wait for their call regarding HVAC checkup, and they never called Don't trust this company. Bought out R&B, but doesn't service the mod-con boilers that R&B spent decades installing.
Way to buy customers only to leave them in the lurch. The only good thing to say about them is they didn't charge the service fee after making us wait the whole day to show up for a call when we specifically described the situation and equipment to them when we called.
FH Furr HAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY FURNACE. I had zero issues with my furnace until their employee came into my home for an "ac" inspection in March.
I paid for a biannual inspection to "prevent" issues. After the employee left I smelled something burning throughout the house.
Four hours later I had no heat. After youtube searches I discovered the capacitor was disconnected and I'm assuming he forgot to reconnect.
I was upset but fair. I asked them to return and inspect my unit later as water started coming out of the furnace.
Due to the capacitor being unplugged for 4 hours. The heat in the HVAC melted all parts which is where the burning smell originated.
In July another FH Furr employee showed up and attempted to fix the furnace. I assumed everything was fixed and he'd tested the furnace as in July it was 100 degrees and no need to turn on the furnace; I didn't discover it was still broken until now.
Here we are in October I go to turn the heat on and I get nothing the furnace won't ignite. Contacted FH Furr about the issue only to have the customer relations rep tell me their is a possibility that I may have sabotaged my own furnace.
He then asked me what's a good dollar figure to get it fixed. Said he couldn't just fix it for free.
Obviously I wasn't happy that all of these issues. This was caused by his employee who didn't reconnect the capacitor and melted the seals in my HVAC which caused water to leak in the utility room.
DO NOT USE FH FURR AS THEIR MANAGEMENT'S ONLY SOLUTION IS FOR THE CUSTOMER TO PAY MONEY TO RESOLVE ISSUES WHICH FH FURR CAUSED. I am now contacting the local news as I kept good records and pictures and emails of this unprofessional company.
Pictures include capacitor I discovered which was disconnected. The flooded basement and readings the employee took as he disconnected the capacitor before he didn't reconnect which caused the damage.
Currently I am seeking another company to repair my furnace. I had a water heater service call scheduled.
No show, no call. No thanks; strike one, you're out.
This is the most unresponsive company I have ever dealt with. If there is a secret to how to get them to respond to inquiries regarding service calls and/or billing issues, I haven't found it.
It's been less than two years, but the new HVAC system they installed quit working. Even though it's under warranty still, they refuse to even come look at it.
Even though it's still under warranty, they refuse to even come to look at it. (Not that I was eager to call them again, but since it's under warranty I thought I'd try.).
Worst ever. We called an independent repair person who maintains our older, basement system.
They say it's the "board" in the AC, which is a manufacturer failure. FH Furr, worst ever! Zero integrity.
Some of their staff are not trained properly and lack the knowledge. Their only solution to any hvac issue is buy a whole new system.
I had the worst experience with F H Furr last week. The technician came on the door talking a mile a minute and never stopped talking and trying to upsell.
She installed 2 new parts to my toilet but to no avail. Toilet still leaking.
I was charged over $300 for nothing. Her fix is that i needed a new toilet for a cost of over $1400.
I Called another plumber who fixed my problem and I did not need a new toilet. She only cared about making a sale.
Even told me she convinced the client before me to spend $8000 for his repair , so pleased with herself. Beware!' Service request called at 11am.
Called to say no technician coming at 4pm. Very disappointed when I have a water leak.
We had this company as our HVAC/furnace service/maintenance provider for the last 6 years. Every single time they came to do the regular checks, they would try to upsell on "needed" services and/or products, to which in more than one occasion we fell for it, to later find out the service or product was completely unnecessary.
On their last "inspection", the tech advised that the ignition gas valve was bad/leaking and needed immediate attention/replacement due to the danger it posed. They would charge $650 (with membership discount).
After paying a $75 part acquisition fee, and reading all the negative reviews for this company, I decided to reach out to a different company referred by a neighbor. They sent a tech, which conducted several tests with different pieces of equipment.
To my surprise, the tech advised that nothing was wrong with the valve and no leaks were detected. When I called back FH Furr to cancel the work order, they told me that they did not refund parts fee if I cancel, even if the work was not needed.
I asked to talk to a manager to discuss the matter, and potentially cancelling all services with them, to which they inform that one will be calling me that same day, however, no call, just an email confirming my cancellation of membership. Stay away from this company.
Their techs are trained to be very good sales reps by taking advantage of their clients. Water heater installation.
Quoted $5000.00 to install a $600. water heater.
These rascals make more than Doctors, Lawyers, and Politicians. Looked elsewhere, and found the same at half their price.
Called out a plumber to fix a shower handle and hose bib I was expecting something like $500. The guy came out and did a "home inspection" and then presented an estimate for over $10,000 which included a whole-house water treatment and filtration system, whole-house pressure regulator, an expansion tank, none of which we need nor asked for.
After haggling for a half hour like I was buying a used car I whittled him down to just the repairs I asked for and the estimate was $2400. He left without fixing anything.
It was a sales call, not a service call, and a complete waste of my time. FH Furr repair a sewage pipe.
They charged me $6300. Reported to the ins.
Co. It was a 5x5 hole at a cost of $7000.
Ins co. Informed me I was charged 2x the fair and responsible price.
Mike Schuman and Steve Powoski are dishonest. I guess I was charged extra for being a stupid single women.
Go elsewhere. We were looking to replace our entire HVAC system since it was old, had some leaks, and the AC just wasn't doing the job.
So we asked for someone to come out and give us a quote. Made it very clear that we just wanted a quote, and I even was upfront with the guy that we had another company coming later that day to also give us a quote.
So he was very friendly, took a look, walked me through their process. Then came time for him to give me a quote.
I've been a sales person. I've gotten quote on plenty of other things.
I've never in my life dealt with such a pushy sales person before. He used every singel trick in the book to try and get me to sign for work.
Uneblievably aggressive, wouldn't take no for answer. Even when I was firm that I wanted to shop around, he tried repeatedly to get me to commit to giving him a call and discussing the other quotes with him.
When I refused to commit and said I'd think about it, he then told me that he'd show up at my house later that night, so that we could "discuss it." HELL no. I don't care if this is the best HVAC company in the world, that level of aggression, dishonest, and creepiness is not acceptable.
Then to top if all off after I'd told him no a hundred times, he wouldn't even let me keep his paper quote to use to compare against others, and told me that he couldn't email it to me or anything. Another tactic to try and get me to let them back in my house? I'll take my chances with another company Stayed home from work between 1 and 5 pm.
They never showed up. Didn't call or text.
Just wow. I would NOT recommend this company.
F.H. Furr repaired a leaking kitchen sink, only to have to return the next day to repeat the repair.
When the technician returned, he blamed THE HOMEOWNER for the leak which he obviously missed the previous day. He insisted that the homeowner must have used a special wrench to try to tighten "something" AFTER paying him $500 to complete the service.
When I pointed out the insulting and ridiculous nature of his assertion, he stuck to his guns because, in his experience, homeowners tamper with his work after he leaves all the time! What a moron! I don't normally write reviews that shed a negative light on a company unless a pattern of behavior occurs or their service is obviously deficient. I have been a regular customer of FH FURR for years.
During that time, they have replaced my water heater, performed seasonal maintenance on my heat pump, replaced a problematic electrical outlet, repaired a "rarely happens" board issue in my compressor, and recently replaced the coil in my heat pump. The heat pump issue was a disaster in professionalism.
Let me be clear that all technicians that have come to my home have been personable and communicated with me in clear terms. The people I spoke with on the phone have also been professional.
But the internal processes regarding communication and parts procurement have multiple failure points. And they don't seem to care about the impact these have on customers.
My heat pump started short cycling in December. This rendered the unit nearly useless.
The technician that came to the house advised me that the issue was not the compressor but with the inside unit coil and that would have to be replaced. I was advised at that time it would take 3 to 5 days to procure the new part.
And so, I entered into an agreement in good faith to get the unit repaired. The problem was that the part took 2 weeks to obtain.
In the interim, I could only run the unit in Emergency Heat mode, which is quite expense. And so, we ran the unit in the morning to get the temperature in the house up to the 60s.
Then we used space heaters to warm two rooms in the house so that we could work. I called every day to get an update.
At no time in the two weeks I was without a working heat pump did any one at FH Furr reach out to me. I speculate that FH Furr has contracts with certain suppliers for parts to the units they service.
The one they apparently have an agreement with for the part that my heat needed is in Gaithersburg, Maryland. That is a mere 38 mile drive from my home.
But, the part procurement process failed. On one call I made to FH Furr, the part was on the way to their location.
That either wasn't true or it didn't work because the time I called, they were waiting on the part. If that supplier didn't have the part, FH Furr should have procured it elsewhere to fulfill their agreement.
I find it difficult to believe that there wasn't anywhere in the area that had the part. I even offered to drive to Gaithersburg and retrieve the part, which they declined.
And so I called every day to get an update and request that someone do something. And the days passed with no part.
And during this time, I received a call from FH Furr to come out and do an electrical inspection. I found that to be ludicrous.
I didn't need an electrical inspection. I needed the part to fix my heat pump.
After two weeks, the part was finally retrieved and installed the next day. All seemed good until I attempted to remove and replace the filter.
Something was causing the filter to be stuck. After much wiggling of the filter, it finally came out along with a plastic bag containing parts and installment instructions.
I am now questioning every job they have done in my home. Was everything installed correctly? I don't know.
I certainly have lost confidence. And now they are asking me to renew my annual contract with them.
Enter into agreements with this company if you will. But keep your expectations and confidence low.
I paid to be a preferred customer and subscribe to their maintenance service. Then our AC went out in June.
I called and was pleasantly surprised that they promised they could see me that day. Then they never showed.
They never called to say they weren't coming. I called that afternoon.
They apologized and promised someone would come the next day. Then they never showed.
Again. I called twice to verify they were coming.
By late afternoon, on my third call, they told me no one could come. I get it that they're busy during hot weather, but they make appointments and then don't keep them, which is unacceptable when you don't have AC in the summer, and could find another company who could help you.
I am a member and submitted a request for HVAC inspection ("free") lmao because some vents were working fine, others not so much. After $5,000 or pointless upgrades and cleaning, our initial problem was still not even addressed.
This company does nothing but upsell and rip customers off. They should be brought to court for how much of a scam this whole operation is.
Technicians are nice and pleasant, but they are salesmen with technical training, nothing more. Do not use this company no matter what you hear from anyone else.
You'll end up a sucker like myself and have to dispute charges to get them to respond to complaints (their client relations number is inactive!). You have been warned! --UPDATE-- F.H.
Furr worked with us after we complained about the unnecessary work performed (duct cleaning biggest one as our new house was confirmed to have had its ducts cleaned barely a year ago). They were helpful and refunded us that charge.
Beware of this company. Scheduled an appointment this morning for a toilet repair for today between 12 noon and 4pm.
They called at 3:30 pm to advise that they would not be able to make it and offered no explanation. The FH Furr technician was timely and seemed knowledgeable.
That's about where the good ends. I was upsold/ quoted one price and *after the work was done,* was given an estimate to sign/ bill to sign that was more than $150 higher than quoted/ agreed on.
This after the electrician suggested a way to get the job done quicker/ easier (cutting corners), granted I'd lose the ability to see if/ when there was fault because the indicator lights would be installed behind drywall!?!? I signed the paperwork and paid the bill, frankly, to get these guys off of my property so that I could go back to work. I haven't had any issues with the work but if I ever do, wouldn't call these folks to fix it and will definitely not be joining their membership program.
Doing so simply gives them an opportunity to upsell/ screw their customers twice a year into perpetuity. They've got shiny trucks and come uniformed, but are otherwise unprofessional.
Job was done efficiently The service was met accordingly Good value Communication was made effectively Thank you This company price gouges their customers in a way that almost feels criminal. They charged us $1500 for duct cleaning in our first week of owning our home, which we later got quotes for 1/3 that price.
They charge $750 for installing parts that cost $50 at a hardware store. The only positive out of our experience with FH Fire is the service technicians were great, efficient, and friendly.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS if you don't wanna be financially drained Paid for recurring preventive maintenance checks for years. The A/C recently stopped working right before a scheduled check.
The technician came and was about to leave saying everything was fine, until my Mom caught him in the driveway and said the a/c hadn't worked for several days. Shortly after that the diagnosis was the coil needed to be replaced but would take approximately a month to get the part.
Three days later (after they failed to show when scheduled the second day later), the diagnosis changed to the issue being a leak in a part not covered under the HVAC warranty. Repairs cost $2K, only to have no a/c again only three weeks later.
Throughout the experience no supervisors or customer experience reps would call us back, and my 80+ year old Mom was stuck waiting for them all day in the house with no a/c in June. I will NEVER use FH Fuhr again.
$750/hour labor!? Charged us $1,500 for two hour job replacing a bathroom sink faucet and its two supply valves. And this was with the "Partner Plan" discount.
Our renter was in a bad spot and they put me on the spot, so I swallowed the cost, but not working with them again. They charge "per item" instead of per hour which is a sly way to hide outrageous labor charges.
I needed a simple shower temperature cartridge for my shower. I have an initiated all the phone calls.
No one has ever bothered to contact me. It's been almost a month and I still have not gotten the cartridge or installed.
Customer service keeps telling me that they will contact me when the part is in. but I have not had one phone call and I am finding it very hard to believe it takes this long to order one simple part is possibly the worst experience with a plumbing company I've ever had F.H.
Furr was my go-to plumbing firm for over 20 years: they installed by heating/cooling system and my water heater - and did routine service for my home. Then, my cooling system couldn't keep up during that last hot spell and I called them.
The technician arrived four hours late for the appointment and then after cursorily inspected my Furr-installed Carrier heat pump system, said that it "is old and they don't make parts for it anymore" and then said that I needed a whole new system and a bargain $16,000. I was overwhelmed at first and provided a hefty down payment - but shortly realized that this was a sales routine, not a real technician's recommendation.
I called Furr and told them to cancel that order to refund the down payment, which they did after a couple of weeks - and one furious phone call from the salesman. I called a local guy, he fixed my heat pump for $300 and it's going fine.
Furr has lost me as a customer. I have had nothing but problems working with this company and I have $20k+ in a water heater and HVAC that can't be used because of issues from installation.
While both units are under a "No Frustration" guarantee; I can confirm it will be a frustrating process with NO guarantee you'll have hot water or air conditioning. The initial install of the HVAC unit last summer took 5 months and was only completed after the summer heat ended.
This summer, in turning it on, the condensation line wasn't plumbed properly and puts gallons of water into the house when run. The Furr plumber came and told me it was a HVAC problem.
Then the HVAC tech came out and told me they wouldn't fix it because it wasn't their team that installed it. I've been promised calls back numerous times and no one will work with me to figure out a solution.
I would strongly recommend not using this company as they don't stand behind their work and their initial work leaves much to be desired. I had a technician from FH Furr come to our house because our AC Condensation pump was not working.
I reported this when I asked for the service. The technician came out checked the pump and verified that it wasn't working.
He said he would have to order a new one. He was relatively new to FH Furr and didn't know how to use their computer system.
He had to call a friend to figure out how to bill me for the vist. The visit took several hours.
Over the next three weeks, I called repeatedly to check on the status of my new pump. Each time I called I eventually was told that it was ordered but they did not have an estimate for when they would get it.
After three weeks, of calling, I instead called a plumbing distributor, got the pump in two business days and installed it myself. Never once did I get a call from FH Furr.
I would not recommend using this company. Chris Stoudt is a very competent young man, he inspected every and each part of our AC home system.
Definitely professional! Mirco yesterday a technician from FH Furr came to do annual air con servicing We have been with Furr for ten years and they are usually very good. The technician that came yesterday was rude, argumentative and kind of shifty.
The first thing my wife said to me after he left was that she didn't trust him. I called a different hvac company to come out tomorrow for an annual servicing cause we didn't feel comfortable with the guy from Furr.
We have been with Furr for 10 years. we think it might be time to move on.
incompetent crooks. Worst experience ever.
Completely misdiagnosed problem, charged for unnecessary services, and did not reimburse for charges despite admitting the technician sent has history of poor performance. Customer relations is a joke and local management is a complete clown show.
yelp do not allow a rating less 1 star but FH Furr deserves a zero. The worst of the worst a nightmare! Installing a stand by Generac Generator: came defective, installation not following manual, cheating county inspectors to pass inspection, have to spend a lot of money with another company to remove and fix everything that this company screw.
Questionable knowledge installing generators, the license needs to be remove!!! They put my house in danger... Really expensive! far more than any competitor.
good techs but bad company. I would not recommend using them for anything.
Homeowners Beware It appears this company has a few different Yelp pages so carefully read the reviews. One of our pricey new AC units failed within two weeks of installation.
Do not think spending close to $30,000 will result in good customer service. It took more than a month before our new AC units were functioning properly.
We were told a new part would need to be ordered and then once the time allotted time passed we were told no repairman was available to come out. Subsequent calls and the staff backtracked stating the part had not been ordered.
We were left hot and bothered for weeks before our AC units were working properly. Overpriced and when they come to do one single job they try to upsell you on a slew of other jobs whether you need it or not.
Just be fair with pricing and don't recommend services that are not needed. I was recommended to replace my water heater that was less than 2 years old.
I thought they were good after I had an initial service but lost confidence after that. After experiencing a ceiling collapse caused by water buildup resulting from a disconnected AC pipe by FH Furr duct cleaning department, I reached out for assistance.
Unfortunately, it has now been 48 hours and communication and guidance on remediation are completely lacking, leaving me feeling stranded by the customer service team and FH Furr as a whole. So disappointed at having not received clearer communication or proactive support as we remain unable to inhabit our bedroom.
Has anyone else been experiencing issues with FH Furrs duct cleaning department or customer service team? We were clients of A Quality for years and they always did a great job, until FH Furr bought them Out. We had FH Furr out to do a spring check on our system.
A month later our AC dies. We had another firm come out and found burnt wires, cobwebs and dried leaves on the system that they supposedly serviced Just a few weeks earlier.
They are now offering me $50 off my next service. What a joke! Avoid this company like the plague! Our initial experience was favorable.
The first technician was excellent. He properly inspected & serviced our HVAC systems.
We have two systems, one for the "whole house" and another for the "addition" and BOTH were found to be in good working order after the initial inspection/service. Our experience changed when we signed up for the Gold Preferred Partner Plan or "PPP" after I paid in full ($334.80) for the one-year plan, I waited for a couple of months for them to schedule whatever service/inspections we were to receive under the plan.
When we did NOT hear from them, I called F.H. FURR and we were able to schedule a date for them to come to our home for the services.
I did NOT understand that we had been turned over to the Comfort Consultant Department for a free equipment replacement consultation. The second technician that came to our home for the services was a nice young man, however, he was NOT as competent as the first technician.
He also had a different focus. His focus was obviously to "find" ways to sell us services! Apparently, he did not know the systems he was examining very well; although he had been trained to use the tools, he clearly did NOT understand the results.
Accordingly, his "findings" and recommendations were not on point. Let's start at the beginning; * Upon entering our home his first comment was about our water heater o I have no idea how that applies to our HVAC systems o Of course, it does apply to possible upsell opportunities for F.H.
Furr o He commented that if it's over 8 years old it should be replaced * He then looked at the whole house unit (HVAC/Furnace etc.) * Next, he wanted to see the outdoor parts o First, he looked at the addition unit o Then the whole house unit * Then he wanted to see the thermostat(s) o Addition first, then house unit o He checked them for holding temperature as set (both passed) * Back to the whole house unit o He inspected the ducts and they are dirty o Out to the addition unit with the same results * Both filters were clean (or cleaned during inspection by owner) * Inspected blower motor and wheel o both were found to be dirty on both units Whole house unit Then the addition * Technician could not find the unit plate on the whole house unit o I showed it to him on the back of the cover * He did NOT check the dampers (I could have shown him if asked) * He could NOT FIND or check the Aprilaire whole home humidifier unit o Electrode wires - not checked o Water panel - not checked o Cited the unit as NOT installed * He flushed the condensate pump on the whole house unit o I provided some bottles of white vinegar and a funnel * He stated that he did NOT understand why there were two condensate pumps o Obviously, he did not understand the Aprilaire system that he cited as "NOT INSTALLED" * Cited system as NOT having a surge protector o F.H. Furr installs whole house surge protectors o When I told him that we had a whole house surge protector: He stated that they didn't work on outdoor units Tried to upsell a surge protector * Despite ambient temperatures of +82 degrees he cited the house unit as follows: o Return duct temperature of 72.1 o Supply duct temperature of 48.9 o Temperature difference of 23.2 degrees o He FAILED the unit citing "No FREON" o Clearly, he is wrong! o He did NOT PROPERLY connect the tools * Did NOT test/check/inspect furnace unit * This technician needs additional/remedial training! * I believe that this technician was overwhelmed by trying to assess two systems at the same time.
He seemed confused at times and lost his thought process on which system he was assessing at what time. Bottom line, we were to receive written estimates for any repair work suggested, as well as, written estimates for total replacement cost estimates as recommended by the technician.
It has been two weeks and despite several e-mail exchanges with the F.H. Furr Account Manager we still do NOT have any written estimates for recommended repairs and/or the cost of replacing one or, both of these units.
July 19th e-mail & response Mr. Wxxx, It has now been one week since Jahidi Williams inspected our HVAC systems.
We were supposed to receive estimates for the work/repairs cited during that inspection. So far, no estimates and no scheduled follow-up appointment, as requested.
See below. You stated that you "...
have some open slots in our schedule and are excited to offer exclusive incentives to earn your business." So far, no appointment scheduled, or follow-up to your previous email. It cannot be that difficult to provide the estimates required and even less difficult to schedule a follow-up appointment.
I am a service-disabled veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and contacted F.H.
Furr because I thought you actually cared about your customers. Hello Mr.
Bxxxxx, Are you looking to take action on the repair options or looking to have one of our comfort consultants come out for free and give you a quote for a replacement. How do I access the filter? It has been a month, and would not willing to make schedule for correction.
Would not return call either. The duct configuration is not only blocking passage within limited utility room space, but also making the filter door inaccessible.
Currently, there is also a gap (due to improper installation and duct size fitting) between return plenum and air handler where the air a leaking through. Incorrect wiring during installation made the fan blower running 24x7 for a week with ignoring customer's repeated concerns.
I can't find any way to let them making earnest efforts to come back and finish the incorrect installation. We needed to have some electrical work done, and F.H.Furr were the first ones to respond.
Showed up on time, very polite and very experienced electrician...but the prices they quoted were outrageous. The prices were on a per-unit basis (this much to replace a breaker, this much to replace a panel)--and it's really hard to understand the breakdown between labor and materials.
If my calculations are right (based on the final price we paid somebody else, also a licensed electrician), F.H.Furr charges close to $500/hr for their work. So yes, very responsive and professional--but a very poor value.
Shop around--and you will definitely find a better value! Terrible Experience - Avoid the Partnership ProgramMy recent experience with this HVAC company was the worst I have ever had. I strongly caution others against signing up for their "Partnership Program" as it seems to be more of a trap than a valuable service. When I first called to schedule a technician visit, the sales representative quoted me $115 for the service call.
They then tried to push their Partnership Program, which they claimed would cost only $13 per month. The sales rep made it sound like an amazing deal, saying it would include one free plumbing visit, one free electrical visit, and two free HVAC maintenance visits per year.
They also claimed the $115 service charge would be waived entirely for Partnership members. After pressing them multiple times, the rep assured me there would be no other charges besides the $13 monthly fee and any applicable parts/labor.Trusting this information, I signed up for the Partnership Program.
The very next day, the technician arrived and found my HVAC unit was low on refrigerant. However, they quoted me $392 for just 2 lbs of refrigerant - an exorbitant price.
When I balked at this, the technician then informed me I would be charged a $97 service fee since I declined the repair. This contradicted what the sales rep had told me.I called to cancel the Partnership Program, and after listening to the recorded sales call, the company offered me a $100 credit.
But when I still wanted to cancel, they said there would be a $97 fee for doing so. The manager claimed the sales rep was not at fault, despite the clear disconnect between what was promised and what I experienced. This whole ordeal has completely eroded my trust in this company.
I would strongly advise anyone considering their services or Partnership Program to think twice and be extremely cautious. My experience suggests they are more interested in signing people up for programs than providing honest, reliable HVAC services.
The prices are double or triple the expected market value for repairs. Do not trust them for expensive services like replacing your HVAC system, changing your electric panel, or fixing your sewage line.
Support small businesses and contractors instead. They always offer half the price of whatever FH Furr offers.
My a.c kept freezing up so I contacted F.H furr to come out and take a look at what was going on. The service technician in less than 2 minutes told me I had a major leak and recommended I replaced the whole unit.
When asked where the leak was coming from he said it would be an extra charge. He recommended a finance consultant come out that day to give me a quote.
Long story short without hesitation I was told it would be 18,000 dollars ! FH Furr is not a reputable company it is highway robbery! I got a second opinion from another company and all I needed was freeon which was $250 . I've had no a.c problems since ! Stay away from this company please it was beyond a disappointment and caused me more stress than anything.
If I could give it zero stars I would I called FH Furr for an electrical issue. I was told that they would be there on Monday.
They were a no show. I had to call them and ask what happened.
The said the man would be there tomorrow between 2 and 4pm. Again a no show and no call.
We'd. They called and said that the man could come later in the week.
I said no thanks I already had it taken care of by another electrician. I don't recommend this company.
They are unreliable and inconsiderate to the customer.? FH Furr just ruined my basement. I believe the company is going out of business and not honoring their warranties.
The tech came out and cased a leak and I was told I have to wait until Monday for them to fix it. I'm struggling to write this as I don't have much patience for this...
however, we have a "service agreement" with FH Furr to come out and inspect our plumbing system. The tech arrived at 8:30AM this morning and began the inspection.
Now, at the end of the inspection he had a list of items he recommended we address. Nothing critical and we hadn't had any issues and never had a leak so it wasn't to concerning.
We did decide to have them replace the two valves hot/cold in our laundry room and the rubber hose that want to the washing machine because the valves were original (2004) and they had some calcium build up and it was obvious they are getting old. He quoted $450, I felt that was reasonable and he did the work.
He finished up and roughly 1:00PM. So, now I've had a tech at my house from 8:30AM until 1PM, but hey, I scheduled the appointment so it is what it is.
The kicker is I just went into the laundry room and both valves are leaking. When I called FH Furr they essentially told me the best we can do is Monday??? so, I have two leaking valves caused by your tech and a "service contract" and I have to wait until Monday.
Needless to say, I plan to report this a fraud and cancel my contract. Please do your due diligence lots of HVAC companies out there, pick one that will stand by their customers.
I received the request for more information and to contact customer relations, upon reviewing other responses to critical reviews, it appears to be the same generic response. I sent an email to the email provided to FH Furr and I have yet to hear anything back.
Given the speed they initially responded, I expected a quick answer to my email. I have not received any responses to my email and really do not expect to.
I stick with my original opinion, criminally high prices without a doubt. Update to my original complaint.
while FH Furr insisted they had completed the job, the homeowner called me last week to advise they have a strong sulfur smell in their basement room. Turns out the Furr guys broke off a pvc drain pipe and we've been running kitchen water into the crawl space for all this time.
I called remediation and repair folks immediately, and also offered Furr that they were welcome to send one of their people so they could physically see what had happened. Half a dozen phone calls from their dispatch folks, starting mid morning, and they offered to send someone in the evening.
By that time I had it repaired, dried, treated, and back in place. For those wondering, the group that fixed the problem were HVAC Unlimited, in Alexandria.
Used FH Furr spring 2023 to replace both heating and AC systems (via Costco promotion.) Happy with salesperson, installation, system performance, and first seasonal maintenance. They called today to schedule our spring cooling maintenance and we were shocked when told "first available date is in September." Not sure if this is because our maintenance is prepaid or if they're just grossly understaffed, but it's unacceptable.
We scheduled October for next heating maintenance and are on a wait list for cooling. Something to keep in mind when buying a new system! After failing to meet two scheduled appointments and only sending texts that you had someone scheduled to show up only to fail to show up, your customer service is in need of improvement.
I do NOT recommend this company. I had my HCAC AC unit replaced early summer 2023.
First off, they gave me a unit to where the filter comes out on the side and obviously did not test it before they left because when it was time for me to change the filter, there was not enough room between the wall and the unit to get the filter out. So they had to replace the unit to where the filter comes out on top and that took several weeks.
They failed inspection. And oh today my unit stopped working but couldn't come out until 2 days later, but in the meantime we discovered it was not the AC unit but the malfunction of the dampers- which we fixed.
Terrible service, horrible product!!!! One star only because I had to click on a star to get this posted! Wanted to sell me a whole new system instead of just replacing the broken part. I replaced the part myself for 1% of the cost they quoted to replace the system.
They are terrible scheduling an appointment. They keep changing.
Worst company BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE TOO Seven months ago we had an awful experience with F.H. Furr for their emergency response to our blocked toilet.
The toilet drain was completely blocked with poop and paper, so a hydro Jet type procedure had been needed to unblock the long length of toilet pipe. Our Furr "plumber" left us with a pile of poop and paper towels being dumped on the property adjacent to us within then feet of the street so it was quite visible to us and anyone driving by.
The adjacent property is a preschool (nice). Should have called the health department right away but didn't).
Since that time then we began noticing sewage odors from that toilet area, something we never had before the Furr visit and finally we detected stains on our hardwood flooring under the toilet. We had to completely discontinue using the toilet and entire guest bathroom and gave it some time and lots of disinfectant until our hardwood thoroughly dried and the smell disipated.
Then after a lot of research called another plumbing company. On removing the toilet our plumber discovered an undersized replacement wax ring that Furr installed and below it a fractured pvc toilet flange that had been leaking under our hardwood flooring and seeping onto our hvac system ducts.
For a mere fraction of what we paid Furr to break our flange and saturate our hardwood with leaking sewage the entire issue was repaired. After the first complaint with Furr we received an email from a Furr manager but declined any help or resolution in the future.
Needless to say, F. H.
Furr employees will never step onto this property again and please DO NOT call or text again. By the way there are photos of the sewage dump on the lawn and also of the fractured pvc sewer flange also.
Furr cancelled two previous appointments this month for a routine HVAC winter inspection ! I am waiting today for the third scheduled appointment with a confirmation yesterday but so far they are again a no show with no contact for the time frame given! After the last cancellation ( it had been confirmed just 10 minutes before they cancelled) I asked for a manager to call but never rec'd a call back. We used Dwyer for 25 years before they were bought by Furr and never had this kind of non-service! I have a backup appointment with another company made in case they don't show up today - I already have changed plumbing needs from Furr after my last experience with a commode problem! Installed a new component of my air conditioning system that was not broken, AC continued to not function, and now will not return my calls.
I can't get anyone on the phone to talk about the poor customer service experience I've had. Do not use.
DON'T HIRE THESE PEOPLE. We had a pump and tank replaced.
First thing in the morning turned into 4 pm. He got the tank and pump in but did not check the voltage and fried it.
It's 8:30 Pm by now. So they have to go get a new one to install the next day.
Again, First thing in the morning became somewhere between 3 and 6 pm. No water in the meantime so we are hauling bottled water and showering at a neighbor's outdoor shower.
For what they charge I would expect they would want to fix their screw ups. I guess it's a case of "We got your money, Dude" Nothing really against the tech.
He's been handling calls from morning to night but the company seems woefully mismanaged. My rating is 0 stars.
This is the worst company that I have ever dealt with. for four days I have tried to set up an appointment for a plumber to come to make a repair that was recommended at the plumbing inspection that was completed by a very profession young man (Ryan Crowe) , but when I tried to set up an appointment for the repair to be done I have gotten nowhere.
I have spoken to three people who tried to help me but to no avail. Sarah tried for 4 days to get someone to schedule the repair but no one ever called.
Today I spoke to her again and she attempted to transfer me to a person named Cora who was waiting for the call. The phone rang 5 times and went to voicemail.
I called Furr again and spoke to Cindy as Sarah was on another call. Cindy got me a supervisor to talk to.
Kelly was very polite and apologized I called this company for AC repair over the Memorial Day weekend. They showed up and looked at unit but did not even touch it and only requested system upgrades! They gave a quote for the new upgrades and left without getting system operational.
I had another company come out and it turned out it was only a clogged float. They cleaned the unit and unclogged the float and the unit is working perfectly! i don't recommend signing up for their twice a year inspection.
I waited on the phone for 15 minutes and then was told there was no appointments for 3 months. By then the summer will almost be over!! Absolutely horrible service! We called and they told us they would be here between a window of time.
They never showed, they then called and said they were on the way and then called back ten minutes later to say they weren't going to make it. I stayed home all day missed work, and my kids missed afternoon activities all due to us waiting for this company.
They wanted us to schedule for tomorrow and we opted out. We went with Micheal and sons...atleast we know they will come because they care about their reputation.
F H FURR Matt provided electrical service to me which was excellent. He cared about his work, he was clean, neat and his work was perfect.
He made sure everything was functional and as clean as when he arrived. He was charming, had a great personality and I felt safe while he was here.
In fact he was so darn good, I had him come out and do some additional work for me. He will be my go to electrician.
I am recommending him to everyone I know. I am not at all easy to please but when I am happy about service I want everyone to know.
This guy is trustworthy, he will explain everything to you in such a way, when he is finished you will want him back. Too many people who provide service simply provide more aggravation, not this guy he is a joy to watch he is masterful in his work .
THANK YOU MATT and THANK YOU F. H.
FURR We used to have Megee until they were acquired by F.H. Furr.
Megee was wonderful, Furr has been terrible. We received a quote for a new system which was MORE THAN DOUBLE of other estimates.
Two zone, two floors. 38k vs 15.5k-16.5k from multiple other providers.
Their technicians are supposedly on commission and paid to sell potentially unnecessary repairs and upsell new systems. Within an hour after our tech was here for a spring tune-up (we have a service agreement for fall/spring), a sales guy came by and did a 3.5 hour dog and pony show.
He started by saying it was approximately 18K. Near the end it was 19K per system or 38K.
BEWARE! Look at all of these similar reviews. Simply "No." That's what I've heard from homeowners I know who have used F.H.
Furr in the past, referring to their predatory service and pricing practices as a big turn-off. Because of these warnings, I've steered clear of this company, but I don't have first-hand experience of their negative practices to share.
I give them one star for coming promptly in the promised timeframe. Negative stars for the service.
Simply put over $1100 and the plumbing worked for about 48 hours. We are back to the same blocked drain.
Won't call them again and neither should you. I called these people out of desperation after the installers couldn't get the hose to disconnect from the wall outlet for a new washing machine and had to take my new washer back to the warehouse.
The guy that came from Furr couldn't get it off either because he didn't have the right tool, told me he would set us an appointment for me so I could get the washer delivered by Wednesday, and then spent a half hour trying to sell me a plan they had for 2 inspections twice a year for your plumbing or HVAC for 167.00 and a 10% discount on any service you needed. I didn't hear back from them so I called and had to leave a message on Monday - NEVER HEARD FROM THEM.
AND I WROTE HIM A 267.00 CHECK FOR NOTHING!! THEY ARE THE CRIMINALS YOU HEAR ABOUT THAT PREY ON OLDER PEOPLE. I"M 71 AND REALLY NEEDED PLUMBING DONE.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - at least if you live in Maryland. I RARELY leave reviews, but am so troubled and baffled by the treatment we've received, that I feel compelled to warn others.
We have an in-ground pool, and contracted with FH Furr to install a pool heater. A tech came out IN APRIL.
After having us spend 10 minutes looking through his IG page (which he's apparently much more dedicated to than he is to his customers), he upgraded our fuse box as he told us that it had to be updated before we could install the heater. He upgraded the system - without labeling it - advising that he'd do so later (spoiler - HE DIDN'T).
He then dug a HUGE trench in our backyard - about 18 feet long and 12 inches deep - running from our house to the heater - and left it OPEN to be approved by a county inspector. Weeks later, when we FINALLY got an inspector to our home, he advised that we'd FAILED the inspection because the fuse box wasn't labeled AND because the trench - that was still open - was not the right depth.
Fast forward to JULY. We have called FH Furr on a near weekly basis, begging for someone to come to our home to label the fuse box and fix the trench.
NO ONE HAS COME. We've been given every excuse in the book ("it's raining" - how does rain impede your ability to label the fuse box in our basement??).
We've had supervisors apologize, saying, "We totally dropped the ball on this one," and yet NOTHING. The last straw was this morning when that same tech (with the IG page) showed up to FINALLY complete the job.
He sat in the FH Furr truck, in our cul-de-sac, for about 15 minutes (we thought he was finishing his coffee), and then LEFT. HE LEFT WITHOUT DOING ANY WORK AND WITHOUT SAYING A WORD.
We've now been waiting NEARLY FOUR MONTHS for this job to be finished. Our 2-year old has not been able to use the backyard due to the GAPING SAFETY HAZARD that they've left in our backyard.
DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. I'm sure their fuse boxes and pool heater are running beautifully.
OURS ARE NOT and they clearly DO NOT CARE. Unreliable, Unresponsive, and unable to timely repair the HVAC system they installed less than a year ago.
In August 2023, I had FH Furr replace my system. Less than a year later on July 5, 2024, the system failed.
It froze up because the control board and blower were no longer functional. It took them until July 8 to come out and inspect the system.
On July 9, they said it would not be able to get the parts until at least August 9. Given the heat wave, I asked them to find another option.
They said they would follow up, but never did. On August 11, I reached out again asking about other options.
They never replied. The fact that they are unable to timely repair the system they recommended and installed less than one year ago (and maintained under their Preferred Partner plan) leaving me without AC for over a month during the worst heat wave in DC with heat indices going above 115 degrees is ridiculous.
The fact that they don't follow up in connection with it just adds insult to injury. I stupidly got snowed by FH FURR 5 years ago and purchased new AC units plus a bunch of upsell items that ended up costing me 25K plus.
Since that time, I've consistently had issues with the systems and have had the company back almost yearly to deal with something or another. Just 2 months after the labor warranty ends, the same unit that I've had issues with for years blows due to a bad thermostat, circuit, and wiring.
Utterly pathetic but for just $890 more they can fix it and if I get their quarterly maintainance plan everything will be back up and running. Despite repeated (daily) messages to speak with anyone that is a decision-maker about my continued issues, the company has simply decided to not even respond to me.
Bottomline: this company is a joke. Their "technicians" do questionable work and constantly attempt to upsell and their customer service is ridiculous.
I wish I could give a zero rating. Avoid this at all cost.
We got the whole HVAC system replaced from them. It was little expensive than the rest of the market but we proceeded with it because of brand trust in Costco and also the inspection guy mentuoned their was a gas leak from the old furnace.
First issue: the AC and furnace will be locked and only their technicians can access or fix if the issue arise. So even to do simple tune up jobs, you will have to call one of their technician and bye bye $300.
Second issue: each time their technicians come they will find issues around your house and try to sell their service. They will give you hypothetical scenarios with non existential threat that may arise if you do not address the issue.
And the price they quote is always on the extreme side. Check others review if you do not believe.
Third issue: do not take their annual inspection plan. Waste of money.
Read issue 2. Fourth issue: 4th of July AC stopped functioning, called them to send a technician to fix it.
They do not have any one available for dispatch because of the holiday. I had 2 handy man who used to do tune ups for me.
I can't use them because it will void the warenty if any other technicians access their system. So i am spending the 4th like a baked potato.
Fifth issue: got a electrician to quote me on setting up a EV chargers, and the quote was for $13000. All i wanted was to set up a charger not pay the down payment for another vehicle.
Bottom line: avoid their service at all cost. For the amount you pay, the service is disappointing.
You could get better service with your local serviceman at WAYyyy cheaper price. The first F.H Furr plumber quoted us over $2500 to fix a second floor leak saying that they would have to take out cabinets and replace all this piping.
The main issue was that our basement flooded with sewage water and we had a backed up basement toilet. I already told the plumber that i augered the toilet with a six foot auger but to no avail.
He insisted that he needs to do the same thing and of course it still didn't work. I already tried that.
He said it is okay if he takes off the toilet because another FH Furr plumber would have to come and take off the toilet anyway to use a 75 foot auger. This FH Furr plumber doesn't do that.
Well he didn't use a drop cloth where he placed the toilet down and he got sewage all over my floor. They charged me $550 just to take off the toilet and another $500 just to cut a hole in the wall to diagnose a leak.
He had me flush the upstairs toilet multiple times to try and diagnose the leak. He had forgotten about the basement clog and goes "Oh shit" and runs down stairs.
In this process he ended up flooding my basement again with sewage water that I had already cleaned up. He also didn't clean up all the sewage water.
He did in the bathroom but not the unfinished part of the basement. So we are over $1000 in and nothing has been solved except I have a hole in the wall and a toilet take off.
The second FH Furr plumber comes and does the 75 foot auger. I had to get him to get manager approval to pro-rate it to $428 considering the first plumber already charged us $550 to take off the toilet.
A few days later the first plumber is supposed to come back to fix the leak. They said he was on his way and he never showed.
I called them and they told me that it had been rescheduled because they are waiting for the part. Thanks for telling me! Well I am glad that happened because I got another company to give me a quote.
The other company said the leak was actually a minor problem and they only charged me $500 and it fixed it! They didn't have to take out cabinets or anything. After the 75 foot augering occurred FH Furr recommended that we get hydro jetting as the clog was still there.
FH Furr only agreed to discount $428 for the augering because they said that is all we paid. In actuality we paid over $900 for the 75 foot augering because the first plumber took off the toilet when he shouldn't have.
They refused to give us a credit for over $900 towards the hydro-jetting. The manager was rude and mansplaining to me how math works.
It's not our fault the first plumber took off the toilet when he shouldn't have and the company is too big for themselves that the first plumber couldn't do the 75 foot auger. I am so glad we fired them and had this other company come out who has been wonderful.
FH Furr overcharges. They have high prices.
I have actually talked to someone who works for FH Furr and they incentivize their plumbers to make as much money off of you as possible. They have bonuses and contests with rankings on how much each plumber makes.
The first plumber was dishonest and trying to make a ton of money off of us. They took advantage of a desperate situation.
They have this thing where you can join their membership for like $167 and get ten percent off. That is a joke though because their prices are so high.
They also mark their services up just to mark them down. Beware of this company.
You live and learn. The reason their reviews are so positive is because they will ask the select customers they think are happy to review them by sending a link.
Complete Rip off. Costs three times than most other companies.
We had bad experience twice. We'll never use their service I was a longtime customer of Moran's Refrigeration and came to FH Furr when they purchased Moran's.
It was fine at first, but I'm seeing an increasing pressure for the techs on the HVAC side to upsell. On the plumbing side, run far far far away.
Prices are crazy high. Bottom line: FH Furr is a sales organization under the guise of a service organization.
They remind me of timeshare salespeople. Horrible experience with this company.
I had an electrical problem in my house with a fuse that kept blowing. After 3 failed attempts and $1200 I decided to go with a different company that resolved the issue in a few hours for $300.
This company is focused on sales and membership enrollment than quality of work and customer satisfaction. I would not recommend and would also not trust the reviews on their website.
I would not recommend this company. Total rip-off.
My water heater was leaking, called this company at 9pm or so. Customer service was good.
But....The technician came, looked at the water heater, went outside to see if I had a chimney liner, then told me I needed to replace the water heater and told me I did not have a chimney liner. He quoted me $7,500.
Really??? Then tried to quote me $4200 if I got the water heater myself. Please.
Ripoff. I ordered the tank for $700 at Home Depot, found a licensed plumber on Thumbtack and he quoted $1200 to install and for parts.
AND...he told me I already had a chimney liner!!! PLEASE beware of these companies who take advantage of people. DO NOT CALL THEM.
Would not recommend this company to anyone. I hired these guys to come in and service my unit and install a nest.
I was charged 6k for the A+ service to clean out my inside unit. Fine.
But what I didn't expect was the tech telling me that the outside unit needed to be fixed and that would be an additional 2500. This was disclosed to me after the cleaning was done.
For a total of 8500$. I asked why he didn't just tell me to replace the system, and that I would have saved thousands of dollars on cleaning it out.
He said that 600 would go towards a new unit if I chose that route. What a rip off.
Now I owe 5k through green sky for a rip off job. I was quoted by another servicer, and they're charging me 6k to replace the entire unit! That's it! The cost of what I paid to have my previous unit cleaned.
And I'd get a warranty. My neighbor said he only paid 7k to replace his heat pump also.
It's only 2 tons. Why the hell was I about to be charged 8500$ for nothing? They have lost me as a customer.'''.
