Review and analyze now for company Golden West Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, and Electrical and provide the analysis in the discussed format for the following reviews: '''Honestly, Golden West Plumbing and HVAC were the fastest to respond to our AC issue. Yes, we know it's first-world problems to bitch about air conditioning issues.
However, we have three dogs, that are elderly, and struggle with heat. We want to keep our pets healthy and happy, so yes, flame on.
Regardless, Golden West came to the rescue. Thank you! Just had to have a sewer line replaced in my house.
Angelo did an outstanding job diagnosing the problem, and walked me through every step of a multiple day process. I was super impressed with his accessibility, the way he problem solved and figured out what was going on, and stuck with the job until it was completed.
The crew that worked with him was terrific- hardworking, respectful, and cleaned up after themselves. I really appreciated the excellent service they gave! Thank you, Angelo and crew!!! Carol W.
Was told that fixing a leak in my AC unit would require me to buy a new unit for $10,000-15,000. Contracted another company who fixed my issue for $500.
The trustworthy company that I used told me that many places have people who work on commission and only try to up charge as much as they can. Complete scam artists.
STAY AWAY!!!!!!! I waited all day for a scheduled appmt for my AC tuneup. I was contacted after 4:00 pm and told the technician was delayed so I could reschedule it which I did.
I specifically told the tech that I was not interested in becoming a member for $145 but was charged anyway. Also requested that he give me the part that he replaced on my unit, which my husband requested.
He said he could not because it was covered with acid(???) Couldn't he take a picture of it? Odd because he replaced the same part several years ago and gave us the part. Why didn't it have acid on it then? Then they sent me an estimate after I had already paid them $639 for a tuneup and replaced part.
I don't trust them. We had a boiler issue a few months ago and reached out to Golden West after a terrible experience with a different company and they were great.
Had another issue today, and Carlos came out to fix it. They came when they said they would, he clearly communicated the issue and what it would take to fix, as well as providing additional helpful insights and information.
Very happy with Carlos and the overall experience, and would definitely recommend! Quoted me $3000 for a 1 hour job. I purchased the parts myself for $194.
Did the install myself. Didn't take an amateur like me more than 1 hour.
We had them come out and look at our very old boiler. They gave us a quote to fix it.
Came out to do this while we were out of town and our house sitter was here. Didn't show the day they said they would.
We should have just fired them then! Came out. Tore our boiler apart.
Charged us the full amount on our card, despite having not finished the job. We had to call them when we got back because they did not even reach out to us to say they couldn't finish it then.
What reputable company charges the card without finishing the job! Had the repairman call us. He said he couldn't finish because we didn't open the wall to expose our main.
When, at the initial bid, we had told him we did not have the tools to do it. He said he would do it.
Told us also he needed to do a few extra things and he would get back to us that day with that quote. No call or e-mail.
We had to outreach again. We plan to take them to court.
DO NOT USE!!! Will was great. He came after hours and was able to get to our home in less than an hour at 8:30pm.
Will got right to work and removed a badly backed up drain. We've had this issue before and paid $250 total and Golden West was $405 so that really was unexpected but Will made us feel comfortable with spending the money and getting the job done correctly.
There was a $129 after hours fee and that is also more than we expected. Overall the pricing seems extremely high but Will was absolutely incredible at his job and did everything in his power to help us understand the job and what he had to do to remedy the situation.
The dispatch services were polite, extremely quick and courteous. I do wish that we were able to get a ballpark from dispatch because I don't think we would have used the service but it is what it is and the job is done and we are satisfied.
Pros -covid precautions were excellent -wore protective gear -clean -protected our carpeting -would 100% recommend Will LeGrand Cons: -price The other night I was trying to relax with a bath and suddenly there was rain pouring from my living room. Called Golden West and they were able to make a same day service call.
Josh and his team worked really hard to repair the cracked pipe and was able to stop the leaking in my ceiling. They also provided a walk through and were extremely clean.
Left the house better then they found it. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Two stars instead of one due to the knowledge and experience of the two guys who worked their tails off to try to sell me a new furnace I didn't need and five different line items of unnecessary fixes to my A/C unit.
(Confirmed independently by two other companies that I called out afterward and by a third company associated with my condo unit.) Serious price gouging. Big time sales pitch.
Steer clear. This company is guilty of blatant price gouging.
They tried to charge me $350.00 for a 20 minute repair to an outdoor copper pipe using a $3.00 part. When I went to pay, I authorized a $150.00 charge to my credit card.
This company waited 2 days, then used the same credit card and charged an additional $197.00, a payment that wasn't authorized. This is fraud and is illegal.
When I called to speak to a manager, I was told I could leave a message and they would call me back. Nobody ever called me back.
Scam artists when it comes to billing practices! Full disclosure that no services were preformed by Great West for me but I'm here yelping because my first contact with them left a bad taste in my mouth. They very well may have great technicians and service.
The person answering the phone when I called to schedule a next day appointment was shall we say, combative. I asked a very simple question of whether their service call/trip fee ($89 as of today) is applied or credited toward the estimate given if you decide to do the work.
She refused to give me an answer! She kept saying over and over that the technician would give me all that information. And she wasn't very nice about telling me so either.
It's a yes or no question, so I took it as a "no" and ended up cancelling my appointment. Better late than never to the review.
We had a water heater go over spring break last year and returned to a flooded basement, every home owner's nightmare. We called Golden a West at midnight and Jason arrived promptly and ready to work.
He was kind, and trust worthy. He set the wheels in motion for a new water heater the following morning, which was a Saturday, and set the wheels in motion for water remediation and insurance coverage.
The process was seamless and relatively painless. So grateful.
Needless to say, a few months later when we started to have ongoing issues with our central air, we called Golden West. We had had no fewer than three past AC individuals and companies ghost us, unsure of how to fix the problem.
This time, Chris and his team came to the rescue. Service was amazing, prompt and customer centered.
They got us all fixed up and we felt as though they were reasonable in terms of cost. Chris's team went above and beyond! 6 months later we could not be more pleased with our new water heater, furnace and AC! They are all more efficient and the ongoing service we get from Golden West is impeccable! Would recommend Golden West 100 times over and as said before, we have worked with several heating and cooling companies in Denver! Anthony was great! He showed up as scheduled and gave me an honest review of the work my boiler needed to be safe (turns out it was a simple part replacement that had been leaking).
I plan to move forward with them and will report back when the work is completed! Long review / story to following - but basically they sent three techs to my house... one of them caused a dangerous ignition issue with my boiler, the second one tried to screw me over to the tune of $2000 (or grossly misdiagnosed the issue the other tech had created), and the third one seemed to be pretty competent and trustworthy.
Maybe if you can get Branden it's worth going with these guys, but otherwise - no way. Don't trust the Google Reviews, clearly they have found a way to game that system.
I originally called Golden West in August due to an inconsistent ignition issue on our gas furnace / hot water heater. They reported that the full ignition system would need to be replaced ($1200) so we went ahead and did that.
However, by the next day it would not light at all. Another technician came and discovered that the over flame sensor had been set off.
He reset it and we saw that the combustion was indeed quite explosive. He said this was driven by the fins needing to be cleaned so it could vent properly and that this was going to be a $2000 repair.
This didn't quite add up as the explosive ignition had never happened before the previous day's repair. So I sent him away and had another company come the next day.
They uncovered that the issue with the ignition was the position of the pilot light installed by the first tech and adjusted it accordingly, charging me their minimum and also stating that the fins did not need to be cleaned. I reported this to Golden West and they refunded me what I had paid plus another $200, although I was certainly left questioning if the $1000 I had paid at this point had actually been required (especially after they told me that that tech wasn't really a boiler specialist).
At least at that point our boiler was not explosively igniting but before long I noticed the original problem was back - the pilot light was not lighting consistently. Since we were back to the original issue, I had Golden West come back to fix their work, but insisted on a third technician because I didn't trust the other two.
He made a slight adjustment to the pilot light gas pressure and now the issue seems to be fully resolved. This one actually agreed with the tech from the other company - there was no way that the fins were ever causing explosive ignition.
They show up quick and the work quality is solid. They cleaned up nice too.
Went to some trouble to get me what I wanted finish-wise. Now...
Hold on to your wallet, and take notes when they give you the estimates. Do NOT buy the maintenance free water softener - it's a scam.
Magnets? Really?!? Also, all the 5-star reviews for them appear to be written by the same person (check it out). $2900 for a water heater install with expansion tank became $3200 on the final quote (then down again when I mentioned it).
$1450 for a new bathroom sink/faucet. Next time I'll look for alternatives.
Never even got to the service call. Made appointment 10/28/20 for 11/3/20 with Ally confirmed time and details.
Called to reconfirm on the day I made the appointment after scheduling time off of work to meet their Tech. Ally failed to book said appointment and lost my business.
Unprofessional and lame. I had Golden West Plumbing come out to snake a drain.
The plumber quoted me $6200 to install a "two way clean out" (without even attempting to clear a clog in my drain) as a "temporary" solution or $12000 to replace all of my pipes as a "permanent solution". I was confused because I didn't understand how this would address the clog in my drain.
The technician left after I paid the $99 after hours fee without fixing anything. I had another company come the same night (2 hours later) and fix the problem for $600! I always support local businesses when I can, but not when I'm getting scammed! I would recommend RotoRooter over these guys! They'll save you $6,000! Brendan did a top notch job! He diagnosed and repaired the furnace issue during the service visit to my rental home in Arvada on a Friday before a cold weekend.
I know I got lucky and that's not always possible but I appreciated it. He also helped my renter to show her how to use the thermostat and replaced the battery.
The price was high BUT I know how hard it is to find people who know what they're doing and can fix the issue the FIRST TIME. Especially on a Friday before a cold weekend when I have renters with a young baby.
Brendan worked hard to sell me the job and also the annual membership for maintenance and pricing. I know he probably has to sell the repair and the program every time and not many people will pay for it and I know how hard it is to do sales at the same time have the technical skills.
I respect his hard work and capability so I paid a premium price for the job and signed up for the annual program as well. Sometimes with service contractors, I pay them to come out multiple times or I have to get different people and pay them for each visit.
So I am happy to have a company that can solve my furnace issues and also plumbing and electrical issues. All the other contractors are so expensive as well and at least Brendan worked hard to prove to me that he was knowledgeable and it meant a lot to get the work done on such short notice! Buyer Beware I had them out to do warranty repair on my AC.
I verified with the Distributor my warranty covered parts and labor and Golden West was an authorized service company for Goodman AC repair. When the tech arrived, i discussed the warranty with him, he called the distributor on speaker phone and I heard them verify to him parts and labor were covered.
They even told him NO FEE to the homeowner. After an hour he tried to sell me a generic fan motor from his truck but it would not be covered and wanted to charge me $1100.00 I said no, so he told me he could go to the distributor in Denver and get the Goodman motor but would charge me for time and labor at $1110.00.
I asked him to leave and he still charged me $189.00 for the "service call." Rico did a great job. However, the price for the service he completed was significantly higher than what was quoted by Brother's Plumbing.
Once Rico was there and completed the diagnosis for the work, it was too late to go back to Brother's Plumbing as the diagnosis had a $175 price tag. This was applied to the total cost for the work performed, however, it cost us an additional $186.
We did contact Golden West requesting they match the price quoted by Brother's Plumbing for the same work but they refused. They were a "preferred vendor" recommended by our realtor who will be removing Golden West from that list.
I have had mixed experiences with these guys. While I appreciate having a company who will (with the subscription plan mentioned) provide 24-7 service when needed.
I don't appreciate the high prices and continual up-selling. Every call begins with "how old is your boiler" and continues to try and sell me a new one.
The annual maintenance isn't a complete cleaning and again they spend more time trying to sell me improvements or point out things that might break. Twice I've had to have them come back when I've had a problem.
Neither time was my problem resolved in the first visit. The first time it was a fairly complex problem and replacing multiple components everything was good for 2 seasons.
Shame on you Golden West. The next time it was a fairly simple issue that should have been caught weeks earlier during that annual maintenance process, the tech miss diagnosed the issue, suggested it was fixed but within hours no heat in one zone again.
We pulled out the space heater because it was a holiday weekend and didn't want to be disrupted waiting on incompetent technicians. I had them back the following week and after a "discounted" 1300 repair we have heat in all zones again.
SHAME ON ME for continuing to trust these incompetent overprice high pressure sales people. I'll be looking for a more technically competent service oriented service provider next season.
This was the worst service ever. The technician left a hole on my wall and did not put the shower handle back as it was before he arrived.
The shower was working. The only problem was that the handle was spinning.
And your technician said he had never seen that Delta cartridge before and didn't know how to make it stop spinning. Yes, my boyfriend put the new cartridge and it didn't stop spinning.
That is precisely why I called a plumber. This plumber knew nothing.
He kept saying that the main valve would shut the water off after it was turned off but even though the flow of water had diminished, the water kept running and it never shut off. This is unacceptable.
He even suggested that I put a picture to cover the hole on the wall. This technician knows NOTHING about plumbing and left a mess before leaving.
Josh was terrific! He repaired our lawn faucet that was leaking. He found the most cost effective solution to repair the leak.
Thank you, Josh, for your fast, reliable and hard work! Had an issue with a broken faucet that required us to turn the water off to our four unit building. Called late at night to schedule first thing in the morning, technician said it would cost $1700 to fix and gave us the hard sell on buying a membership rather than addressing the pressing issue.
Long story short, I have a tenant who is a contractor and I called him out of desperation. He fixed it for $8 in parts for me.
These guys are downright criminal in pricing. I've had people try to take liberties when we've been in a pinch but this is going way too far.
Look elsewhere. Believe the negatives.
"Bill" took my call, and said it would be $189, since it was a holiday (New Years day). Well, a clogged main line doesn't care what day it is, and we needed to be able to use the water, so I agreed to pay twice the price I would have normally paid with my regular company, had they been open.
Then the tech, "Phillip", shows up, and says it will be $326 just to run the "snake" machine, along with the $189 service charge! This is stunningly ridiculous: $515 just to snake a main line. Won't be calling them again, and recommending everybody avoid them.
The plumbing, heating and electrical businesses in Denver have just become vultures taking advantage of people. Avoid this one unless it's a true emergency.
You're gonna pay through the nose for it. Update: They came out on Monday (1/1/2018), and today, Friday (1/5/2018), my line is backed up again, and they won't warranty their work because they detected roots.
$515 for a half-@ss job. Zero stars, not one.
DO NOT TRUST! The technician was friendly and competent; the pricing is abusive of customers. My father owns a heating and cooling company so I have worked on furnaces and air conditioners all my life.
I recently moved to Denver, bought a home, and am not as familiar with swamp coolers. My swamp cooler is 3 years old, I needed to get it prepped for the summer.
I read the manual, removed the cover, cleaned the pads. At the point I needed to connect the water line decided to hire out to ensure it was done correctly my first time.
Golden West quoted $198 to open for season vs. others (the original installer) at $248 for both opening and closing the cooler for the season.
GW said closing would be an additional $198. The weather is heating up so I reluctantly decided to bite the bullet and go with them.
When I asked, the technician let me know that the website coupon claiming "$50 off Any Work Performed" wasn't available for this service because this was already a "special price." Laughable, false advertising. He came out, performed the same tasks I did in addition to attaching the water line solenoid valve (4 minute process).
He stopped when he couldn't find the outside water line valve, which I assume the previous owner of my home took with her. He said he would need to charge me $150 for the part, which is available in any hardware store for $8 - $10 (it's a Brass Evaporator Cooler Valve, 3/4" NPT Female).
That's a 1500% markup for the part. I told him that was unacceptable, and I couldn't believe they ask that of people.
He mentioned people pay it, the value of Golden West is their availability, not their price. He removed the solenoid valve when I declined the $150 for the part.
He was here a total of 12 minutes before speaking with his office about the situation. They decided they'd cut me a deal on this trip and only charge me $189.
That's basically $189 to connect and remove the water line solenoid valve at the bargain price of $945 per hour. No thanks.
I let him know I would not be paying given how absurd the thought of this was. I spoke with the office, they decided to remove the charge and put me on their do not service list, which you can guess was a what I decided to do with them as well.
The technician did his job, was friendly, I have no complaints with him. My complaint is with the business practices of Golden West, taking advantage of consumers.
I highly recommend saving your time and $$ by looking elsewhere. Worst experience ever.
Do not ever use these dishonest clowns. One of our showers would not turn off.
It was Christmas Eve and all of the hardware stores were closed. We called these guys and the technician arrived promptly within the window promised.
This is where things got bad. I should have known something was wrong when he walked through the door because his body odor was so bad we could barely keep from coughing.
It smelled like he had not showered in days and we could smell it even after he left - first indication of the lack of professionalism. But whatever.
I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is the dishonest up selling that happened next.
He went up to the shower and did not even inspect it. Didn't look at it with a flashlight, didn't turn on the water to the house to see where it was leaking or anything.
Apparently he has x-ray vision and could diagnose the problem through the wall just standing outside of the shower. He must be that good.
Then he said he had to go to his truck to write up some "scenarios" After about 10 minutes he came back with a piece of paper where he slowly revealed different doomsday scenarios that we might be looking at even though he had not done anything to look at the faucet. Of course it started out with the shocking worst case scenario of $2,000, but only 1,600 if we signed up for their subscription service which included furnace cleaning.
Huh? The rest of his pitch was little more than aggressively trying to sell me this subscription service which I suspect he gets commission for. He kept coming back to discounts on furnace cleaning.
Hello it is Christmas Eve and I have a leaking faucet and now I have this guy with horrific body odor trying to sell me subscription services not even listening to me. He finally gets down to the bottom line which was a $400 charge on top of the hundred and thirty I had already paid for the service call.
He said this was for the faucet cartridge. I told him that is what I already suspected and had looked it up online and saw that the part was $30 and installs in seconds.
I asked him what the 400 was for and he said it covered the "warranty and his testing." I asked him to leave at that point. We limped through Christmas day just fine.
This morning I went and bought the part for thirty bucks and from the moment I walked in the door two when I had the water back on and checked for leaks it took 8 minutes. This was going to cost me $400 from these guys.
Subtract the $30 part and even if I generously say a total of thirty minutes at my house, which is very generous given that he spent more time trying to sell me a subscription service than he did looking at my faucet, and you're over $700 an hour. Oh and the part is warranted through Moen and they have a free helpline if you need any assistance.
BUYER BEWARE!!! They pulled a bait and switch on me. I called in January with a backed up drain in my basement.
I was told that they could have a technician there that day between 3-5 and it would be an $80 charge. I specifically asked if that included the drain cleanout and was told that it would.
The plumber did not show up until 6:00 that night and then tried to charge me an after hours trip fee. I had to argue my way out of that.
Then he started going over pricing for the service. The amount he told me was $400 for him to clean out and inspect the drain.
I asked what happened to the $80 price I was quoted and he had no idea but would "follow up on it". Unfortunately, I needed to bathe my children so I had to pay up for him to do the cleanout.
He said that he is not supposed to start work when a customer is unhappy from the beginning. I told him that I would be a lot more unhappy if he left and the problem wasn't fixed.
He snaked the drain and said that it should be all set. I did receive a call from him a little over a week later (after I followed up TWICE with him) and they said that the operator did not quote an $80 price.
I was told I had to talk to a manager to hear the recording...but I never got anywhere with that. Follow up - my drain is now clogged again and we were told that they would charge us again since it is out of 90 days from the original service.
The whole ordeal has felt shady from the start and has not left a good taste in my mouth. To quote one price over the phone and then try to charge that plus 5x the quoted price is absurd.
I would never recommend this company and think that people should know the tricks these guys are playing. As I stated before, BUYER BEWARE!!! Expensive and incompetent.
I do not recommend. We tried them out because they could come on short notice in the heat of summer.
They performed a temporary fix and wanted to charge $$$ to change additional components. They did not reinstall the ducting and evaporator correctly as several of the screws were lost or found around the unit.
We ended up calling our "go-to" HVAC servicer, and they had to re-work the service performed by Golden West. They fixed the issue, and we spent less than the original service charge.
I used to like this company, or at least one of their people. He was an honest trustworthy guy.
He left the company. I know why.
Later had a shower faucet installed where it was bare down to the studs. $1000.
Had them back again to check out a pump on a boiler system today. The guy was nice and professional, but..
Asked about replacing a main electrical panel because I know my panel needs to be replaced. What I expected to be a $2k to $2.5k amount - the quote was over $9600.
That is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously? I'm looking for a new HVAC company.
Outrageous. Golden west plumbing came over my home today to potentially fix a simple toilet issue and proceeded to show me a price list of either $177.00 or $479.00 to remove my toilet.
I showed the tech to the door after paying him $39.00 just to show and then went on YouTube to search a video on how to dislodge a toy from my toilet... let's just say that a trip to Home Depot to buy a $8.99 tool fixed my problem in minutes! The technician did not even show to my door with any tools just a clip board with prices...
After realizing that I was over charged, the company did update the price via my credit card They come. Anthony showed up faster than the time window, which was great because we waited all day for another company that didn't show.
He even worked with us on price which was really nice because it was after 6 on Sunday on memorial day weekend! It's nice to know you can rely on them for emergencies! Jose Frias came out today to fix a leak on a washer line. He was super polite, thorough and answered questions on everything we needed answers on.
We enjoyed his workmanship so much we decided to go with their membership program they offered. It's a newer home but it's a flip so you never know what's behind the walls.
Having Golden West close by is a nice piece of mind. I would recommend and have nothing negative to say.
We purchased the so called VIP package, and it ended up being the "Hey, We can take advantage of you package". We had a plumbing issue so they came out to evaluate the situation.
Their estimate for the repair was $600. The part that needed to be replaced costs $30.
Another company did the repair for less than $200. Consumer be afraid!!!! Awful place.
Used this company twice and was screwed twice. Had a friend who is a master plumber recently move to town and I showed him my invoices.
Said I was overcharged 3x the normal rate for both jobs. Too many other great options in Denver to use this company, please don't let them scam you by showing a "book" with the fees.
This means nothing! Also, tried talking me into services that I didn't need and would've been thousands more. Unreal...
The reviews don't lie, tried to charge me almost $700 for a service i just got done for $165. Was shocked by the initial quote and was told let me talk to manager and was then quoted $275, no thanks it's obvious the game here! Called to fix an urgent plumbing leak after hours.
Kudos for coming out quickly and helping to get the water turned off for a reasonable service fee. Minus 1 star for using the reasonable service fee as a set up to try to charge $489 for what another plumber did for $300, and minus 2 more stars for saying there were 2 more things wrong that weren't and trying to charge another $2293 for that! If you are a woman or look like you do not know about home repair, prepared to be fleeced by Golden West.
After experiencing problems with the heater called GW to come and inspect the problem. We were originally quote a price of $389 for parts and labor for the replacement of the heater ignition.
We were also told the motor needed to be replaced. Called a 3rd party with familiar with the heater and found out the motor had previously been replaced the previous year and was experiencing no problems.
After telling them their services were not needed, bought the ignition for $22 and spent 10 minutes replacing it. Total savings was $367 by not listening to Golden West.
Avoid Golden West at all costs. I am selling my property and a buyer's contingency was that I get the HVAC serviced.
I got on the calendar when I needed. Brendan showed up on time and was very friendly.
He immediately determined that the ladder he brought was too short (my HVAC is on the roof) and called for backup with a taller ladder. Within a half hour another person showed up with the taller ladder and Brendan proceeded with the 25 point inspection.
I got exactly the report I needed for the buyer. Super satisfied.
I too feel I was ripped off by this company. I had them out to look at my swamp cooler last year.
It had always worked fine, no problems at all. But, I decided I should have someone come out and clean it and get it started for the summer.
Out of the blue, they found all kinds of things wrong with it and before I knew it I had a $600 bill. They started out at nearly double that, but kept calling their boss and finally said they would offer me a deal (for only $600) if I did the work that day.
I knew I was being scammed, but needed to get it up and running and it did need cleaning. I also had them put in a second pump which circulates the water more often and keeps it cleaner.
After paying the $600, I had to call them back twice because it kept leaking. This year, I started it up myself and there was a valve on a tray I thought they had installed the prior year that was dripping.
Water was also pouring out of the unit onto the roof because the float wasn't positioned properly in the tray. So, I called them out again hoping they would fix it at no charge because I had paid so much to them last year to clean it up and get it in good working order.
The guy ended up telling me that I needed a new float (a part he wanted to charge $186 for that I could get at home depot for $15), plus labor -- but he would give me a deal for $200. He said that float was causing the leak, not the gasket.
I told him I wasn't going to spend that kind of money for a cheap little plastic float, and he got irritated and left. I bent the float myself to position it correctly, and the leak stopped.
I'm going to have my neighbor replace the gasket in the try to stop the small leak, which will probably cost me $25. This is one of those companies that tries to get your business up front with super nice, clean cut, helpful staff to gain your trust, then they scam you into thinking you need to spend a lot more money than you really do.
Their demeanor totally changes when you tell them you are not interested. Stay far away from this company!!! Stay away.
These guys will gouge you. I first had Golden West out to tune up our heater, and that was okay except that they did a real hard-sell on an extra-sensitive carbon monoxide detector.
Lots of scare tactics about how our normal CO monitors weren't good enough. They were also very shady in quoting the price to me, like not breaking out parts, labor and visit cost so it was hard to tell how crazy-expensive said CO monitor was.
I didn't think much of it at the time, but my second interaction with them has me thinking that this is the company's M.O. Our swamp cooler wasn't running very well, so we called them out to take a look.
He came back with a price quote of $794 to replace the float, drain and pads and to clean the pan. It pains me to admit that I signed off on those charges, as I later learned that the cost of the parts was around $80 bucks.
He spent maybe 1.5 hours total on the job, so that's a heck of an hourly rate. THEN, he comes in all "Everything went great! Fantastic! Except the pump is now broken!" And tried to charge another $300 to fix that.
Needless to say ... the part is $15-$30 at Home Depot.
After my husband called them up and called them crooks, they did agree to replace the pump at no extra charge. There were other shady things, too.
Like when I was asking questions about the initial $794 charge, because it seemed steep, he told me a new swamp cooler would cost $4,000 to $5,000. I don't think there's a swamp cooler on the market that expensive, unless it's plated with pure gold.
And he made a big deal about how he was going to replace a plastic piece with a brass piece and it would be so much better ... and then when we checked afterward, the new part was still plastic.
Anyway, I'm mad at myself for getting scammed and would encourage everyone else to look elsewhere -- their technicians are very friendly and personable, which makes it harder to realize you're getting fleeced! This was my first time attending to use this company. The office was great when booking and accommodate my request.
I had reached out a week prior to schedule a simple generator connection. On the date of service I received a call from the tech on site with a quote to connect the generator that we supplied to the portable building we provided as well.
I was quoted right at 6,000.00 to simply connect the generator. It was less than 60 ft.
No digging, no trenching, no back filling. So if you do the math, that's $ 100.00 a linear ft.
To simply connect 4 wires on each end and leave a cord laying on the ground. What they failed to realize is I was having the same exact thing done at 31 other locations the same day at all of the NFL practice facility.
The highest quote I received that day was $ 2,000 I shared this with the tech onsite, and he still want to charge the same amount. At that point I assumed it was just a tech trying to take advantage of the situation.
So I immediately called the office and requested to speak to a supervisor or manager. The office assured me that someone would reach out.
I waited for almost an hour, and had to call the office for a second time. I had the pleasure of speaking to a young lady, I explained the situation and that I was awaiting a call back from a manager or a supervisor, she informed me that she was a supervisor, and even after explaining that 31 other sites across the US were completed the same day, performing the same exact service was for $ 2,000.00 or less.
I even told her that I use a national electric company that is one of the most expensive electrican that you can find, and they still came in under the $ 2,000 mark. She informed me that the price is what it is, I requested to speak to the owner or higher power.
She informed me once again, that if her tech says it that price, then thats what it is. I politely ask if they would rather lose a customer then discussing the price.
I never ask them to match the price, I would of even been ok with per say 3,000 for the simple fact we were trying to meet a dead line. Needless to say, I told them to have a good day.
I reached out to another local very well known electrican with 20 years of experience and was quoted less than 2,000 for same except service. I shared the price I was quoted and we shared a long good laugh.
The new electrican said he needed a good laugh today ! I can not speak on there quality of work, because we never made it that far. As far as there pricing, they would only have to do a job a week to stay a float.
Very disappointing situation, I truly feel they knew we had deadline to meet, and was truly taking advantage of the situation. I have been a contractor for over 20 years.
I have had the pleasure of working with some really great contractors in my time. Unfortunately you run across employees like this that give a industry a bad name.
I truly feel if I was able to speak to upper management, that a resolution could of been meet. We will never know, now.
Please be careful when using this company, I would highly recommend getting multiple quotes. To ensure your not being taken for a ride.
Read good reviews on Angie's list so took a chance. Excellent service from the initial phone contact.
Courteous, professional plumbers showed up when they were supposed to and discussed my options. We had a frozen yard faucet which had caused a flood in our basement.
Put up with my grumpy dog barking at them and even tightened a couple of loose screws on our door handles. I signed up for the service plan option which meant the call out fee was waived.
Which, by the way is only $39 compared to another company I called which was $45 and couldn't send anyone for 6 days. Golden West are a great company and we will definitely use again for any plumbing or heating needs.
Thank you! Do not under any circumstances use this company. They will try to rip you off.
I found the guy who turned up and his supervisor arrogant. They quoted me 7000 dollars above what I ended up paying with someone else!!!! BEWARE! This place will try to sell you products and repairs you don't need.
Golden West told me the heat exchanger was cracked and I needed a new furnace. The technician who completely lied about the repair shut the furnace down on one of the coldest nights of the year.
I had West Metro Fire check for a gas leak which Golden West said the furnace had. Guess what no leak was found.
I had a reputable company like A1 Heating check the furnace and they just cleaned the blower up. A1 Heating is great.
Stay Away from Golden West. RIP OFF Scam.
Complete liars. Boy, was I fooled.
I was told we needed a new furnace for about $5000 and believed it. Had a second opinion and it's a $600 repair.
I had called them for an emergency plumbing issue at our home on May 10, 2015. Our guest bathroom toilet flush bolts were rusted and loose and water was leaking through it down and floor and through the ceiling in the kitchen below.
We shut off water to that bathroom until plumbers came in the next morning. Chris and his team was over at my house the next morning to look into the plumbing issue.
They identified that the issue could be due to the old seal ring and removed and reseated the toilet with new seal ring. They then noticed that it was leaking through the rusted bolts in flush and replaced those as well.
All in all great service, he explained everything and fixed the issue. I gave them 4 stars because they were extremely expensive.
They pricing sheet was so exorbitant that comparing to some other service out on Yelp with 5 rating it was the most highly priced. Chris however extended his service by not charging for the removing & putting in new bolts (which per his pricing sheet was around $200.00).
I had a pipe that was improperly installed in our bathroom wall causing water to flood into bathroom. Within minutes of calling Golden West Plumbing their was a plumbing technician at my door.
The technician Jose Frias was great. He quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed the issue.
His service was top notch and the price was fair. I will absolutely use Golden West in the future for my plumbing needs.
Stay away - quoted $2000 to replace furnace blower fan. Paid another company $600.
One of my worst customer service experiences I had GoldenWest do a repair on the furnace of my rental home a couple of years ago and all went well. Having them come to look at the swamp cooler last week was a huge disappointment and mistake.
Anthony tried to "upsell" me to create a dedicated circuit for the swamp cooler which I declined. Then told me they needed to move the motor of the swamp cooler and it would cost $800, mostly labor.
I couldn't understand how that could add up to $800 as he told me it was almost all labor. The idea made no sense to me as the swamp cooler has been there for a long time with the motor in the same place.
I went to the house, did a small adjustment on the pulley and it's working beautifully. Of course they immediately nicked my credit card for the $120 service fee, though I have yet to receive an invoice.
I called the office yesterday to share my experience and frustration and talked to Kelly. She said that a manager would call me shortly.
Have yet to hear from anyone. I would definitely look elsewhere rather than have GoldenWest do anything at your house.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! When the technician came out, he told me that my AC unit needed to be replaced. The estimate he gave me was for $24,000 for a 1,000 sq ft unit.
I'm not sure if he was preying on the fact that I am a woman or if he just tries to steal from every customer, but this estimate was completely absurd. When I told him so, he "rechecked" and it was changed to $13,500.
That's a big leap but still outrageous since the cost of the unit is less than $2,000. He told me it was including the cost of the crane (usually $200-$300) as if that explained the $1,000/hr in labor! I then had another company come out and they fixed my unit with simply replacing a part for $140.
This is only $11 more than the "service call" cost me from Golden West in which, rather than servicing the unit, he tried to steal from me. I cannot believe I paid to be abused! Just had Pablo check out a long standing issue with my A/C and was very pleased with his service and knowledge of my situation.
The company was extremely communicative. Customer service set up my appointment fast and was very courteous.
I couldn't tell that these folks were dedicated to supplying the best customer service in their field. Would highly recommend them.
Bob L The earliest Golden West Plumbing could get to my home to start up my swamp cooler was two days after my initial call. The morning of my appointment I was contacted by the dispatcher and told that another customer of theirs had an emergency so they could not help me for an additional three days.
I should have said no thank you at that time and I should have went elsewhere but instead I explained that it was not acceptable so the dispatcher said she would see what she could do. Later she called and said she had a person that could come and get the swamp cooler started.
When the repair person looked at my water source he noticed that the nut on the copper tubing was broken. He said he might have the replacement nut on the truck and would go see.
In the meantime, he went back on the roof and came back down with a plastic drain valve and the threaded part of the valve was broken off of the drain tube. He said that would need to be replaced too.
He contacted his dispatcher and was told that the copper nut replacement would cost me $161 and the plastic drain tube would be $189. The quoted price over the phone and additional $198.
Total price $548. I refused to pay that much money for these very minor repairs.
The repair person called dispatch and was told that I would have to pay them $129.00. I paid the price and got nothing but a couple of broken parts.
It took them 3 times to get the furnace and ac working properly then after a couple of months they said we still owed them 600.00 dollars for work done. They mailed me an invoice which clearly showed we had paid all fee's up front.
They obviously can not read their own invoice. I told them I was done with this company.
They may be good, but you cannot get them to show up. I scheduled an appointment, they said it would be better for Saturday.
So i moved to that. They called me then and said they are to busy and cannot make it.
Any company that cannot honor a commitment does not deserve to have business. I was looking to have a new furnace and ac installed, spending probably $10-$15k, guess they did not need that money.
We went to dewinterize our swamp cooler and noted that there was a small crack in a two foot portion of pipe. We ran to the hardware store and noted that the piping was $50 but we lacked the tools to cut it to fit the size needed.
Called golden west out and we were quoted $500 to replace the piece of pipe. When asked how a $50 piece of pipe became $500, we were told that the cost includes a plumber coming to the property to "install" the piece.
We literally just needed an individual with a tool to cut the piece. When asked again how they reached $500 they added that it comes with a warranty as long as the swamp cooler is only serviced with them.
We then got a sales pitch for replacing other pieces in the swamp cooler. When all is said and done we received a quote for more than a new swamp cooler.
The search for a competent, honest plumber in Denver will continue for us. Please be very careful when accepting quotes from these guys, they're snake oil salesmen first and plumbers second.
The girls answering the phones were really nice. The tech clearing my line fixed the problem in 30 minutes, but It took him just as much time to write the invoice.
If you enjoy paying $469 to clear your line, call this company. They don't return phone calls, another bonus.
I too was quoted significantly higher than I was charged by another company!! They refused to discuss the breakdown of prices for parts and labor stating that they were not allowed. I was quoted $980 to replace an ac condenser fan motor.
The fan motor itself is only $160. When having someone else come out, they actually needed to replace not only the fan motor but also the capacitor and were able to do it for only $480!! Do not use this company! It seems like pipes break and freeze during the worst times.
Recently (-10 degrees and 10:00 pm) we had a sewer line break. The guys at Golden West were absolute lifesavers! They came right out and technician Cliff stayed on the job until 3:00 am to make sure we were ok and would make it until further repairs could be made the next day, Technicians Jose, Felix and Alex came out and completed the job.
This included using a jackhammer and tearing the old pipe out and replacing it with a new one. I can't say enough about the way the job was completed and how professional this company is.
If you ever need a plumber, electrician, heating or air conditioning company, you can't go wrong with them. Gordon Hall, Centennial, CO Golden West is the best! Extremely quick and responsive and they operate with the utmost integrity.
Highly recommend them and specifically our technician, Chris V. Thanks guys!!! Been with this company for over five years.
Their original pricing was fair, not good, just fair. Today, I had them come out to replace a $30 part, the firefly, or igniter for my furnace.
The quote: $350 for a 90 day warranty, $550 for a five year warranty, for that part alone. WHAT? I called another independent company, verified price, its Friday after 4pm, and he is coming for $150.
This on the recent rebuild of my whole house humidifier, replacing the screen, cost $350 for a $35 part; timed water pump replacement for water heater, a $50 part online, $1000! They also took out my electric air filtration system and replaced it with a standard media filter system, another $1000. I feel foolish, and broke.
But I will NEVER use this company again. I had a client who wanted to get a sewer line scope done on a home that she was looking to purchase.
She found Golden West Plumbing online a wanted to give them a shot. My client lived out of state, so I had to meet up with Golden West at the property for the scope.
The "Tech" scoped the line and told me that it will need to be replaced. He showed me a couple of small roots coming in at the tap to the city line.
I actually use to clean and camera commercial sewer and water lines, so I have a good understanding of line quality. This "Tech" was already trying to sell me on a pipe burst, or possibly replacing the line.
The line was clay, but in great shape (no cracks, nothing). My client got scared and backed out of the contract.
On the next property we used $99rooter to scope, and they were great. They don't fix or do any line work, so you know they will give you a honest opinion.
My unit wasn't working well, but the fix was simpler than my landlord was fearing. Chris V.
was great, came out today as scheduled and set it all straight. Even better, he didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need, which I really appreciated.
He'll get my business next time for that. One downside -- while Chris V.
was great, my original appointment with Golden West was yesterday. The front desk lost it somehow and rescheduled to today.
That seems to be a front office problem, though, and not one with the technicians. Once someone actually comes out, you should be in good hands.
My sewer backed up and I was so upset. I called Golden West and their dispatch was very kind and quick to get their sewer specialist out to my home.
The plumber, Rick, was very knowledgeable and put me at ease. Unfortunately, my sewer needed replaced, however, they were quick and left a very small foot print on my property.
I will continue to call Golden West for any future plumbing or heating issues. Wouldn't recommend Golden West.
I used them because I needed to get my tenant taken care of since they didn't have hot water. They did perform the service right away but charged me $6300 to install a new water heater.
This was a 75 gallon heater, but the price of the heater, even with substantial markup should have been well under $2000. That means $4000 in labor for a 4 hour job.
WOW. Tried to charge $1084 for 1-hr job of replacing 2 parts that really cost $240!!! Agree with prior review, and I'm neither a woman nor ignorant about my A/C.
I needed my central AC's motor & wheel replaced - large but simple parts. GoldenWest said it'd cost $850 for the motor & $200 for the wheel.
I called another service, & it turns out the motor I needed cost only $150!! This service charged the $150 for the motor, plus $133 for the wheel & $107 for labor -- a total of $390. The repair took maybe 30 minutes, so by charging me over $1000 to replace parts that cost $240, GoldenWest was effectively charging me an HOURLY RATE OF OVER $700!!! Terrible! The service guy actually gave us an incorrect diagnosis for our gas line and blamed excel energy's meter as the problem.
The guy from excel actually came and checked the problem with our equipment inside the house and diagnosed it for us even though it wasnt his job. When we called golden west again, they gave us a terribly high quote.
So would never trust them or recommend them again!! Our A/C stopped working so we called Golden West to come out and take a look. Our tech was very nice and very professional.
However, I don't feel they were honest nor do they have the best pricing. The tech told me he could fix our A/C for $600 but he said because the unit is older that he thought that there was an 80% chance it would stop working again in the near future.
He said if it stopped working again after the repair that there was no warranty on the labor so we would be out of luck. Rather than repairing, he recommended a whole new unit for around $7,000.
We decided to get a second opinion--we called Steel T Heating and they were able to fix the unit for $200 and now it is working great! Total disappointment! They scheduled a job to put in A/C (including ducts) for my 86 year old mother to the tune of $10K+. I took the week off of work to be here with her.
Chris came out 3 days before the job was to begin and started finding excuses, jacked up the price by $1K (forgot to mention needing an electrician on his initial visit....I said OK) and then "declined" the job leaving me high and dry! My mom is now stuck in her hot house as the temperatures hit 90/100 this week, I have lost one weeks vacation time and have had to start all over trying to find a REPUTABLE company that does what they say. I have NEVER dealt with such bad service.....ever! this company does good work.
The techs know their stuff. Cesar is great.
However, I feel like they schedule their appointments too close together. This is the 4th time I have had an appointment given in a two hour window, and they called an hour into it to say they would be an hour later than planned.
I had errands to run today, and would have done them instead of waiting around for them all day, if I had known earlier. Aside from that, they have a great warranty, and when they have to come fix something, I don't have to pay.
When they re did my heater and ac unit, i felt a little ripped off, but after doing a lot of research, they really did have the best deals. I have done business with Golden West for several years to service my evaporative cooler.
Today was the last straw. Every visit in the Spring and Fall comes with surprise issues and extra costs.
I have paid more than $2000 in the last 4 years and will not pay another dime. Today the up-sell is $229 to run some descaling liquid through the system on top of $200 for what takes 20 minutes max.
On top of that he says new pads next year and the pump sounds like it is going to fail. Technician tried to blame the guy who worked on it last year when IT WAS HIM.
This place is worse than a car repair shop - they are just pedaling their "membership program." I have been taken advantage of - but no more. Yeah, this company is not one I'd ever use again, by any means.
I'm just surprised to see so many other people have had a similar experience. I called them when my hot water heater burst.
The guy came out on a holiday, and, darn it, the only water heater he happened to have on the truck was a very high-end model, but he would give me a deal, $1,800 labor and all. I was already going to have to pay him a holiday surcharge, so I figured OK, then I'd have hot water in a few hours instead of a few days.
He pulled the box off the hot water heater and it had a huge dent in the side of it, and he couldn't very well go to the warehouse and get a new one at that point, after he already said it was take-it-or-wait with that one. So, the next morning I got on the phone and quickly found GW was way overcharging me; I could get the same unit installed for $1,000.
Even after paying GW's service call, I'd come out hundreds of dollars ahead, so I called GW to cancel and pay the service call charge, but they said, wait, they could do it for a thousand bucks. I assumed the same unit, since obviously that's what we're talking about.
Sure , I was a little miffed off that they tried to charge me so much more the first time for no apparent reason, but I just wanted to be done with this. I should have trusted my instincts.
The Golden West serviceman did not install the expensive Bradford unit. He installed one that looked like the first one but sells at Home Depot for less than half the price.
Of course, nobody from GW ever mentioned that they weren't installing a Bradford. I couldn't read the chicken-scratch writing on the work order, or maybe I would have noticed, but I signed the order approving the work.
I noticed the different name on the unit about a week later and felt like a complete idiot for trusting them a second time. Yes, partly my fault for not being attentive, but, definitely no, I'd never do business with Golden West again.
Golden West was by far the best vendor we have dealt since purchasing our home. As a first time home buyer, seeking out vendors can be overwhelming and intimidating.
Golden West Plumbing is none of that. After being shot down by two other companies who supposedly had technicians on call 24/7...we called Golden West Plumbing.
I'm mad I even wasted my time with those other calls. From the very first interaction, the receptionist was kind and patient with me and my lack of technical terminology as I tried to explain the problem.
She quickly booked me in and told me she was able to get someone out there not only that day, but within 3 hours. She originally gave me a 1-3 pm time frame....they called and said they were on their way within an hour of my original call! Amazing service points already! Then when Chris V and Gabe W showed up, the great service continued.
Both gentlemen were kind, confident, helpful, and very informative. They detailed out the whole project, gave us 5 different options to choose from, explained each of them in depth, and then gave us privacy to make a choice.
From then, they immediately got started, quickly, quietly, and professionally fixing our furnace. They even did multiple test runs, helped us hook it back up to our wireless thermostat, and sized our machine for the appropriate filter.
They answered all of our questions, never making us feel stupid for asking. They finished up, picked up, and even dusted behind themselves before they left.
Again, Chris V and Gabe W did excellent work in-house, and the front office who helped us out with scheduling were all awesome. I would without a doubt use and recommend Golden West Plumbing in the future.
Thank you!! Chris came within a half hour and diagnosed the problem and had us up and running in half an hour. After another company came out and wasn't able to do anything (tech had an injury and couldn't climb the Scary Ladder of Doom to the roof), I despaired of having to wait for another few days without my AC.
However, Golden West was able to come out the same day and fix it. The staff were friendly and helpful - I'll give them business the next time I have issues.
Why do I always call these folks when I need plumbing help? Because they are prompt, reasonably priced, and get the job done! I live in San DIego, and have asked Golden West to service my son's college home on a couple of occasions. They are a pleasure to deal with, and my remoteness did not present a problem.
This place fleeced me (which I blame myself for, but it was like -10 that day and I didn't want the pipes to freeze) to the tune of nearly $1000 for 1.5 hours work and the replacement of a circuit board. Stay away.
In my case, the guy also showed me a picture of a crack on "my" furnace and said it was illegal for him to fix it. That he would have to put a red sticker on, condemn it, and that I would have to replace the whole unit.
But that he would do me a 'favor' and just do it anyhow (repair it, even though he said it was illegal to do so) but that there would be no warranty on the repairs. (scare tactics) .
They also will try and up sell you all the way to $14,000 to install a new unit. When the guy showed me a write up of different repair options (The $1000 being the cheapest) it was a page long.
If he was at my house for 20 min, either he spent 15 minutes putting this 'offer' together (it was long and hand written), or it was something he had written up before and pretended like it was just written for my specific situation. On top of all of this, the receipt isn't even itemized.
It just says 'Part = Cost' and that is it. No hours worked, no fee for the visit, no nothing.
Total scam. I cannot recommend Gold West highly enough.
We had a pipe burst in our kitchen and flood the kitchen and living room shortly before we moved from out of state. Luckily a landscaping company noticed the water coming out of the house and shut off the water too the house.
Unfortunately, when he did this our 40 year old boiler stopped working. We called Golden West to find the burst pipe in the wall, as well as repair the boiler.
Not only had we not moved to Colorado yet, we were actually on vacation in Hawaii when this happened. Working with Jason and Zach was a huge relief.
They kept us informed of what was happening in the house and helped us find a restoration company to dry everything out. Given our fantastic experience working with Jason and Zach, we ultimately decided to update the plumbing throughout the house and replace both the boiler and hot water heater with a combination unit, which is much more efficient.
Given the extent of the initial leak, we were able to actually see their work when we arrived, as the walls were not repaired yet. The new plumbing looks clean and the combination boiler is wonderful.
The contractors that have come to the house to give bids to replace our kitchen have all commented on how nice the boiler install looks. Highly, highly recommend Golden West.'''.
