We live in the south loop and are out of his coverage area, but he gave instructions on how to clear out the garbage disposal over the phone and my husband was able to get it working again! If you are in or near Evanston, give Mike a call for any plumbing needs. Now I get to write my OWN rave review of Mike the Plumber! Without going into why, I had reason to believe the wax ring on one of my toilets was compromised.
Spoke with Mike on the phone, he told me he has a flat charge for said procedure. Because I have another toilet, it wasn't an emergency so he arrived a couple of days later.
He repaired that, and I asked him if he wouldn't mind turning the hot and cold faucets below my bathroom sink, because I hadn't been able to, was considering replacing my faucet. He did that, then explained my faucet was good & I myself could address the 1 thing that had me thinking I'd needed to replace the faucet.
Would DEFINITELY recommend Mike! We got Mike the Plumber's contact info from a friend. Our toilet caused damage to the unit's ceiling below us.
We called Mike and he came our, assessed the situation, and replaced the wax ring underneath our toilet (something we hadn't done since 2008)! Since then we've had a kitchen sink faucet replaced, and today a cartridge in our tub faucet replaced to stop an incessant drip. No upselling, no "can you write a good review for me on Yelp", no astronomical amounts of money to fix our problems, no "I have to charge to come out to assess the problem".
And he takes off his shoes when he comes to your house. He is good people, and he has done a great job each time he comes! Really hesitant to share his number with friends (even though our friend did), because we want to keep him to ourselves.

Based mainly on Yelp reviews, I called Mike and asked him to come two days later, when I knew I'd be at home. He agreed (and explained he has a minimum charge, but depending on the situation he might charge more), but phoned the next day to say he has a cancellation and could come that day, in "32 minutes." Mike showed up, with his super double-quadruple snake device, and in about three minutes pulled a tennis ball from the toilet.
(He also cleaned the toilet.) I was happy to pay, and he provides a 30-day guarantee (I guess in case some one around here puts another ball down the toilet.). Note also that Mike accepts credit cards without surcharge.

Within an hour, he addressed about six different issues. He fixed a toilet that didn't want to stop running.
He cleared a blockage in a bathroom faucet. He tightened up some leaky taps.

Just had an incredible interaction with Mike. I had asked him to stop by because I had a shower head that kept dripping.
Over the phone, his expectation was that it was a faucet cartridge that needed replacing. When he arrived, he removed the shower head and then turned the faucets on/off a few times.
