I am writing this review, because I think people should be aware of this contractor's actions.This is not about the money. I hired the Hungry Plumber when one toilet in our house backed up.
He quoted a reasonable price and appeared pleasant enough over the phone. When he got to the house he told me it wasn't the drain at all, but rather our septic tank was full and backing up the drains.
He agreed to snake the kitchen sink cleanout but when we ran the water to test, the toilet overflowed again. I asked him to just try to snake the toilet, and he lost his temper and began yelling at me: That he was experienced and I knew nothing.
Because I was home alone at the time, I felt intimidated. I said nothing more, paid him, and he left.
Later that week another plumber came out and discovered the problem was tree roots growing into the line from the toilet to the septic tank. I called the Hungry Plumber to explain the problem and ask for a refund as I didn't think he had done the work as I asked.
He lost his temper again, screamed at me on the phone and hung up on me. My husband tried again later with the same result.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB, but I have been reluctant to post a Yelp review because when he receives a negative review, the Hungry Plumber tries to intimidate customers printing the full name and address of customers in his replies. If he is in any way abusive or uses my personal info in his review, I will go to court and ask for a restraining order.
He knows my contact info, my place of residence, and has already been verbally abusive. My tenant called me at 8pm at night panicking cause one of the toilets was leaking and water was dripping through her downstairs neighbor's ceiling.
I searched on yelp and found Jason (I called other plumbers with the highest number of reviews first.. plumber #1 and #2 didn't pick up, plumber #3 wanted to charge a leg and an arm.) I explained the situation to him over the phone and he said he can come in 15-30 minutes.
We ended up making an appointment for the next day because my tenant can't make it that night. Jason communicated with us via text in the morning and let us know his schedule.
He was stuck at other jobs but he communicated with us well so we didn't have to wait all morning. He showed up at 1pm and fixed the problem within 30 minutes.
He is professional and thorough and he gets the job done quick! His price was very fair also! (1/2 of what plumber #3 wanted to charge me.) I'll definitely call him again in the future. Jason is AWESOME! He did a great job! He was very professional and efficient.
He showed up as scheduled, was clean and courteous of our home. He is very knowledgeable, if we ever need a plumber again we will most definitely use Jason.
I highly recommended Jason for all your plumbing needs! Jason was great to get out within an hour to clear my main waste line. His rates SEEMED reasonable and the job was done fast.
Except that it wasn't complete and 2 days later our main waste line was backed up again. Jason wouldn't warranty the work he had done two days before and would have charged me again to fix the same problem I had already paid for.
He specifically stated, "No warranty on drain cleaning of any kind". I had another plumber out because they were able to get to us quicker than Jason could.
Based on the work the second plumber had to do, Jason didn't do a thorough job less than 48 hours before. Additionally the new plumber recommended we put "root destroyer" from Home Depot down the drain to keep the roots from coming back, something Jason never mentioned or recommended.
Given my experience 2 days later with another plumber I am sorry to say I couldn't possibly recommend the Hungry Plumber. While I appreciate how quickly Jason came out initially he ultimately didn't solve the problem, educate me, or guarantee his work...not even for 48 hours! Other plumber so spoke to guaranteed the work for 30 days.
To me that's just not acceptable especially when I paid half the price to the second plumber. Jason has been a great plumber helping now for a year.
He's been at my place to fix my little Airbnb studio and also my house. He's very professional and comes on time and extremely detailed and thorough.
He explains what will do before he starts and provides an estimate. I have recommended him to my neighbors and friends ! Very honest and does a great job.
My 3rd time hiring Jason for my plumbing needs, another excellent experience! This time I needed a replacement kitchen faucet installed which also required routing out the hole under the granite as the previous installer had not done it correctly. When the faucet came he did the work in the amount of time and cost he estimated.
He's very considerate of the work space and laid a large sheet to keep the area clean. He has always answered or returned my calls promptly, and is pleasant to talk with.
In 2013 and 2015, he replaced my water heater drain valve, installed a thermo expansion tank, cleared the tub drain, and replaced my garbage disposal. I am 100% comfortable having Jason work in my home and will continue to call on him for my plumbing needs! Jason came to my house much earlier than he initially thought, which was fantastic.
Upon looking at the issues we had (broken washer drain and two clogged toilets), he did a great job diagnosing the problem and knowing what had to be done. Unfortunately, Jason couldn't get on the roof to correctly snake the line and clear the issue.
Instead, he recommended adding a clean out to the bathroom, which would have brought the total cost toward $3k. Because of this, we had a different crew come in and snake the line from the roof.
While I'm not able to review Jason's work, his personality and willingness to solve our problems was extremely evident. He was a professional the entire time and was extremely helpful in working around our schedule, and the schedule of the contractors we currently have in the house.
Overall I would call Jason again. His rates and personality are top notch.
I wish I could have seen the quality of his work, but I have no reason to think it is anything to scoff at. Sometimes it's better to be lucky.
My DIY project of the day was to replace the kitchen sink faucet. Step one turn off the water using the under the sink shut-off valve...POP...now I have a broken angle stop leaking water...wonderful...time to call a professional.
Having rental properties we have a few plumbers on speed dial. Speed dial plumber 1 - vacation...
Speed dial plumbers 2-4 - busy... Yelp plumbers 5-7 - busy...
Finally I called the Hungry Plumber. He just finished with his last job of the day and was free to come ASAP.
He was also the least expensive of the 7 plumbers I called. He came and quickly fixed the problem.
While he was there anyway I had him install the faucet, and fix some other stuff on my to-do list. Our water pressure was low, and he said he could fix that too (something I would have never thought was an easy fix).
After less than 3 hours he was done. We were extremely happy with the work and the price.
This plumber is almost too good to be true. 1) Extremely upfront and honest over the phone; 2) Came almost immediately after I called; 3) Diagnosed the problem with my toilet very quickly; 4) Repaired it fast; 5) Gave excellent suggestions for avoiding the problem in the future; 5) Reasonable pricing; AND 6) He takes every credit card for your convenience.
What more can you possibly be looking for in a plumber? This guy is going on speed dial at my house! This gentleman did not work for me. I found him to be unpredictable time wise.
On day one, he got delayed; on day two, he wanted to come an hour before hour appt time. Once here, we argued about the price.
He asked for blanket authorization ...and I was unwilling to give it beyond the first hour. I've had drains cleaned before....and it just didn't go well.
When I said this wasn't working, he thanked me for wasting his time and left. Overall, not easy, not friendly.
I have no beef with someone that wants to work...I started using Jason 2 years ago, quoted appropriately $75/hr Plus materials...with a signed estimate....Great!! he's worked at my mother's primary residence and her rental. HOWEVER, Called him today for same problem that he fixed 2 years ago...he quoted over phone $175 at door just to cable line for 1 hr, $150 each hour after that!!! Plus quoted it takes 1-2 hr to pull and replace toilet (NOT!).
He also told me that he doesn't work well in the rain!! It's an inside job!!! Bottom line he didn't want to work today because he told me when I called him at 8am that he had a late night (ok..especially if he was working)...But he called me 4 hours later and then quoted me outrageous dollars to avoid the work!!! This is actually the 2nd time that he did this...but I couldn't believe he would normally act this way...but now I know. I wanted a reliable plumber that I can trust to use for my mother's house, my mother's rental and my house.
Jason is now off the list. He works when he needs the money, you can tell when he starts quoting numbers without seeing the job or when you prove that you are too wise to fall for his game playing..
Also you will see alot of jobs are full replacement rather than repair...he makes more money this way!! I've had Jason work on my place twice, once for a leaky kitchen disposal and to clear a slow moving bathroom sink/tub drain. He did a free inspection of other potential spots of trouble, showed me what was old and recommended what needed to be replaced with a general time frame before potential failure.
Haven't had a plumbing issue since and this was back in 2012. He was quick and kept me up to date with parts being ordered, work being completed, and cost.
Should I ever need plumbing repairs, I definitely will contact Jason. I called Hungry Plumbing on a Sunday and they showed up 30 minutes later as stated.

It is absolutely correct that I did not respond to his one line enquiry as I am just seeing it (i don't log in to Yelp everyday!). However, a defensive response is usually a tell tell sign of what you are dealing with.
All I can say is that I am not obliged to give any information after the fact sir. The review is accurate and you'd help your business by ensuring you treat potential customers with utmost respect.
Don't ask identifiable information.. Anyone with at least a single brain cell will not give identifiable info when dealing with crazy! Jason has come to my house twice now and is great.

Apparently he has broken the angle stop and have water leaking everywhere. But luckily hungry plumber was already there for the rescue.

Thanks Jason. Just called Jason to help me fix a quarter turn stop valve that was leaky after I tried to install it myself.
He explained how the copper ring from the old valve often crimps the copper pipe which means you've got to saw off a bit of the pipe from the wall before installing the new valves. He fixed the leaky valve and replace three others in less than an hour.
He will definitely earn repeat business from me. Great service and impeccable work.
