No stars given from me Gabe has provided several kinds of services for me over the years, including clearing out a main drain clog, replacing my faucet, and replacing my water heater with a tankless electric unit. He works hard and efficiently, but most importantly, I've never had to have him come back for the same problem because of his high-quality work. I was recommended Gabriel's Service a few years ago through a family member.

DO NOT USE THIS GUY!! This guy is so shady. I reached out to him to get a quote for 2 things to get done: installing our new kitchen faucet and replacing the shut off valve.

He initially quoted me $180 + $10 for the material (aka the shut off valve). When I asked him to give me a quote to do JUST the faucet, he quoted me $190!! SHADY SHADY BUSINESS! How did he go from doing two things at that price to overcharging me to install a sink?! I called him out on it and his response was SO INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE! This was his response when I called him out on his SHADY PRICING: "Okay well since you don't sound serious and you keep shopping I'll clear the board and pass on your time time schedule I have other people want to schedule" He made an ASS out of himself for ASSUMING I was "shopping" around when I have every right to request a quote.

I also live Downtown in a high rise and was trying to coordinate the water shut off with my HOA. Everyone (BUT GABRIEL) knows how difficult it is dealing with HOA and getting a timely response out of them.

So I asked Gabriel to come out with the CAVEAT that I am still waiting for confirmation from HOA. I heard back from HOA and they require a 7 business day notice so I had to cancel my appt with Gabriel.

Low and behold this asshole responds that he'll never service me again. Hey Gabriel, good luck getting new customers.

I can't do math? You didn't even give me your hourly pricing until AFTER I CALLED YOU OUT ON YOUR SHADY QUOTE. And 4 calls? YOU DIDN'T ANSWER ANY OF THE CALLS! How are you missing out on allllll of this work when you have time to immediately respond to a yelp review? As a paying customer, I have every right to ask for a quote and if you don't have a cancellation policy, then don't complain.

Have had him do some more work since last review, both minor and major. Snaked a bathtub and (probably wrong terminology) replaced pipes that connected to the water meter on my side that was flooding the lawn and meter area.

As always, relaxed guy and cheaper than most. Quick tips, talk price before as he is very open about it after looking at the problem.

I usually pay cash, and he usually discounts a little bit for that. Even without discount, usually way cheaper than any franchise or big business.

Only consideration, he is only one guy so if he is on a big project, he will get back to you ASAP but may not be immediate. But when he can, he has come over same day or arranged a later next day visit.

Once again... Yelp DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! After weeks of trying to track down my regular plumber to schedule a fix for my leaking shower faucet, and not hearing back, I turned to my trusted partner, Yelp.

Jay was super professional, respectful (HE insisted on taking off his shoes before coming into my home - nothing I require of anyone!!!), explained the situation and brought a creative solution (using some of his parts, the some of the parts I purchased). And...

he did it in the most economical way! He was also super sweet to my elderly pug who just wanted to follow him around everywhere. :) He just finished up the job.

Awesome experience. Friday afternoon we had a plumbing problem, toilet clogged and a house full of guests.

Called local drain clearing company. They came and said the job was bigger than they could handle.

We called Accolade and described the problem to Jay. We also noticed a leak under kitch sink.

Jay assessed the situation. Clearly outlined his recommendation for repairs.

We agreed to his fair price. We told him we had a compressed window of time to make birthday dinner reservation.

I called Gabriel this morning and he happened to be on a call in University City. He and his super-cool dog were at my house within a couple of hours and he jumped right into the job.

Gabriel removed the gnarly old faucet, installed the awesome new one, and got the filter system hooked up no muss no fuss. I checked out the work afterward -- no leaks, and his plumbing was impeccably done, really gorgeous work.

Gabriel and Accolade Plumbing are #1 in San Diego! I can't say enough great things about Jay. We have used him twice so far on our condo in Mission Valley and he has always come the same day and been super helpful.

This last time he came out he was texting with my husband over the course of a half-hour to help fix the problem (and/or get more information) before he arrived. He stayed for two hours and did an extensive search for the source of our water leak coming out of some air vents in the downstairs part of the condo.

He's very reasonably priced and worth every penny. We can't recommend him enough! He will continue to be our go-to-guy until we go broke from living in San Diego and are forced to move to Oklahoma.

I've used Gabe for several plumbing jobs around my house. He responds quickly, is quite pleasant, and does good work.

Normally I would give Accolade a 4 or 5 star rating without a second thought. I've got kind of mixed feelings now.

Several months ago my gas hot water started leaking so I called Gabe. He was here quickly, removed the old water heater and replaced it with one he supplied.

Looks like quality work too. The problem is he charged $1,500 for this.

Looking into it after the fact, that seems to be a fair bit above what others have paid for the same thing. I don't fault Gabe, since he can charge what he wants.

I didn't get other quotes because I just wanted things fixed, and that's on me. But I will probably think twice before I call him with the next problem.

Tried calling another highly rated plumber on Yelp and they wanted $125/hour and couldn't schedule me for over a week. Accolade was able to come the very next day and only charged $85/hour.

I love it when Yelpers lead me out of a crisis and into a fantastic outcome! Some background. I was going to bed on a Monday night when I heard a faint hissing sound.

Walking about the bedroom I determined the sound was coming from the master bathroom. Ah hah I thought, my wife must have mistakenly left her radio turned on.

Walking into the bathroom I could see the radio was turned off and that the sound seemed to be coming from below the sink. Uh oh.

I got down on my hands and knees and could see a pinhole leak coming from the flexible water intake line to the faucet. Note - this was a main intake line and could not be shut off in the bathroom.

I unsuccessfully attempted to tape the leak such that I could leave the water on to our home. My wife was coming home later that night and it would have been nice to have water flowing.

No such luck, I needed to shut off water to the house. Tuesday morning I was desperate to find a plumber who could come to the house soon and at a reasonable price.

I called the major plumbing services who all begin at approximately $130 for house call with additional charges for parts. These major plumbing services also couldn't commit to a final bill until the plumber arrived to view the situation.

Sorting Yelp plumbing reviews by "Highest Rated" I noted Accolade Plumbing (AP). AP is owned/ operated by Gabriel "Jay" and is based centrally in Mission Valley.

Shortly after 8am Tuesday morning I phoned APs number. Jay answered the cell number and I described my situation.

Jay stated he already had two jobs ahead of me but that he thought he could be at my home by 10:30am. Wow I thought, that is terrific! Then I asked about price.

Jay stated a dollar figure which was very reasonable. I asked if that was labor or parts and labor? Jay stated that was total bill including parts and taxes! Sold!! (Side note - payment is cash only).

And then Yelpers it gets even better. Jay phones me at 9:40am and says he quickly completed his two other jobs and could be at my house by 10am if that would work for me.

Heck yes! Jay arrived at 10am. Upon shaking hands Jay immediately struck me as a courteous and trustworthy individual.

He looked at the intake line which was as I had described on the phone. I was concerned that Jay might not have this line in his van and may have to go after a correct part.

Jay put me at ease and said he stocks all common lines and valves. Sure enough, Jay walked to his van and opened the side door.

I was impressed with how neatly and organized the van interior operated as mobile stock room. Jay came back with the required line and set to work.

Within a short time Jay had removed leaking line, installed new line, cleaned space, restored water to the house and successfully tested operation with no leaks. Honestly Yelpers, I cannot thank you enough for highlighting a truly wonderful person and plumber in Accolade Plumbing! I now know who to call when faced with plumbing challenges or crisis - call Jay! I was skeptical about all the reviews.

Seemed to good to be true, but I thought I'd give it a try. I was not disappointed.

I had a leaking, old water heater in an outside shed. Jay and his apprentice came to check it out and agreed it was done (14 years old).

He estimated the cost of parts quite accurately. We went to Home Depot together, while the water heater drained, to pick out the new water heater and other parts.

Trixie the dog came along for the ride. Once back at the house he replaced the water heater and soldered the pipes.

They even answered my questions so I would understand all the functionality so I can manage it myself. The price was exactly as I would expect.

The customer service was polite and laid back. Overall as smooth as a plumbing problem can be handled.

No kidding, Jay/Gabe/Gabriel (whatever you want to call him as he says) is THE BEST! We've gone through many plumbers in San Diego. Gabe (that's what I prefer to call him since Gabriel is his real name) is the real deal.

We couldn't figure out where water was coming from at our house. There had been a wet spot by the dishwasher and a little bit of mold.

That was enough to send my husband's mind spinning. Gabe answered the phone as he was working with another client.

Apparently, he's a one man band. He doesn't have a crew.

He took a look at the dishwasher and put it through several tests. Looked everywhere for possible leaks.

After testing several possibilities, he found the problem-- dishwasher had no rubber gasket to hold in the water if something got stuck in between the door. *PHEW!* It wasn't a slab leak, which was our worse fear.

He was courteous, professional, on time and delivered stellar service. After months of dealing with contractors from hell on home renovations, it seemed we finally worked off our crappy contractor karma when we came across the reviews for Accolade Plumbing.

Jay gave me an estimate and scheduled an appointment for the same day over the phone. He was here for two hours snaking our two temperamental shower drains and installed a toilet in our newly renovated bathroom.

You are seriously crazy not to at least give Accolade a call! I had a leaky shower that I tried and failed to fix.. I called Accolade plumbing and Jay was able to take care and fix my leaky shower very quickly.

As we all know when you work full time your time off is valuable. Plus I had to get a new toilet installed ASAP otherwise I would have to find an alternate place for my tenant to stay that evening.

I removed the toilet and pulled juice box out myself. However, the flange was rusty and beyond use.

When I gave up, I asked if he could come out. He came at 6pm after I got off work.

He fixed the toilet and helped me install another. It was fast, easy, professional and cheap.

A great example of a what a human being should be. I called Accolade based upon the Yelp reviews just before going out of town, having a stalled out garbage disposal.

The owner answered his phone promptly. I explained that my garbage disposal needed to be fixed or repaired.

I don't want to pull the stupid girl card -- I take pride in the fact that I can do stuff on my own, but electrical stuff is beyond for my handywoman skills. He said he didn't want me to have to pay the $75 to come out here to look at it when I might be able to fix it myself.

He very pleasantly walked me through the steps to reset it and get it moving again. It's now good as new.

There was nothing in it for him to do this other than good karma, so consider this review that dose of good karma coming right back at you. Had a blocked kitchen sink this morning, so I fired up Yelp and started calling the plumbers with the good reviews.

The first one I called did not answer, so I left a message. I then called this number and Gabe answered.

We scheduled a visit for 3 PM and he showed up on time. He was very friendly, did the job quickly and his prices were very reasonable.

He even fixed up a low pressure kitchen faucet that was going to be replaced soon. I would definitely call him again if I ever had any plumbing needs.

He is cash only for now, but that wasn't a problem for me. I'd lost my faith in the repair service industry until Jay from Accolade Plumbing came to fix a problem.

Great customer service! Hi there, I don't normally write reviews, but I had to take the time to recommend Gabriel from Accolade Plumbing. I have had several issues at my house, one was a clogged washing machine drain in the kitchen so I had to drain the wash in the kitchen sink.

A previous plumber (only called because Jay was booked at the time) snaked the drain for two hours, left a horrible mess, and accomplished nothing but clogging the drain further. Accolade took one look at it, described the problem, was patient while we got a hold of the landlord, then fixed it in half of the allotted time--not to mention he didn't leave a huge mess.

After he left, my husband looked at me and said, "Now I see why he is the only plumber you want to use." Efficient, polite, professional...just as before. This was my second experience with Gabe and nothing changed...he is amazing.

I had a leak in the hot water line, this time going to my bathtub. I called Gabe at 9am on a Saturday, he was out within an hour.

Second time we used Gabe - first time was a 5 star review. This time hired him for a sudden water leak behind a wall.

Overall pretty good experience, but a few small issues that did not earn a 5 star review this time. Gabe responded quickly, is an overall nice guy, and seems to know his stuff (good diagnosis skills), has good pricing, but he is somewhat rough around the edges in people skills.

RESULT - $347 - to open walls inside house and diagnose and repair drainage pipe that was leaking. Good diagnosis skills.

Also Gabe graciously took a quick look and fixed a kitchen faucet issue. ISSUES: 1) Gabe almost recommended we pull entire marble cabinet out by hiring another company to pull it out - but I suggested we first try to open the walls a little and see if he could fix it.

2) Did not tell me ahead of time we had to hire a separate drywall repair person, so this added to the overall cost and was a surprise. 3) Scared me how he pounded and shook the pipes to remove them, in my mind risking more damage.

I am not a plumber, but I wondered if there was a more delicate way to remove the pipes, without risking further damage. 4) Always brings dog with him (dog pooped on our front lawn, which Gabe cleaned up when I told him about it).

We like dogs, but it is odd for any professional to bring a pet with them. And he seemed a little distracted by having the dog with him.

RECOMMENDATION - we would recommend and hire Gabe again. We would just be more cautious about asking what exactly was included and what skills he has related to the ENTIRE job (cabinet removal, dry wall, etc.), to make sure we were on the same page going in.

Straight Shooter. Jay installed dishwasher, disposal, and new faucet at my house last week.

He determined that the existing drain pipe under the sink was too high and would need to be moved down to work correctly. I think a lot of plumbers would have just installed it incorrectly and then let a problem slowly develop over time.

Jay made a 2nd trip to my house to make sure everything was done the right way. I can tell that quality is real important to him and he does his trade the right way.

Fair pricing too. I had an issue with the hot water pressure in one of my showers.

I figured it would either be a clog in the shower cartridge or debris in the hot water line. I always like doing things myself if I can, so I tried taking apart the control lever to access the cartridge.

However it was heavily corroded and I ended up snapping the shower lever. The chrome sleeve around the shower cartridge was also corroded.

After several attempts of trying to remove this sleeve to access the cartridge I decided to throw in the towel. I didn't want to accidentally damage the shower valve as well which would have made life a lot more miserable.

I gave Jay a call and sent him some pictures of what was going on. He saw that I might be able to take care of this myself and basically coached me through the situation.

He gave solid expert advice, I did as he suggested and voila I was able to remove the chrome sleeve and complete the project! If I ever run into any major plumbing issues, I'd definitely give Jay a ring to perform the repairs and would recommend him to anyone in need of a plumber! My crazy contractor was using my garage sink as a "slop sink". I know this will be a shock, but it got fully backed up which meant no clean clothes.

I had been running fans in the crawlspace that cleared the gas, so not realizing there was a leak for a long time. Saint Elbert of Almco showed up within a couple of hours and made a quick assessment.

If you have a gas leak and you call the local utility to have them check it out, they will likely shut off the gas to your house and lock it that way, only to be turned back on after you get (and pay for) a permit for the repair, and a city inspector come by to check the work. Depending on what's going on you could be without heat, hot water, gas stove, gas dryer, etc.

for several days, and the additional cost having the city involved is $300-700 depending on the situation. This company was great! I was able to speak with someone and get a technician out to my place in no time.

Elbert the technician was also very knowledgeable and very helpful in assisting us with what the issues and how we get this fixed. He went above and beyond and was also very timely.

Overall, great experience and will use this company again! We had such a fantastic experience with Tony Silva from Almco plumbing! It was such a huge contrast with the two horrible experiences we had just a few months ago with two different plumbing companies. First, the online reservation system is a breeze.

We've used Almco's reservation system twice now, and I can confirm the entire appointment takes about 1 minute or less to setup, and they WILL come at the requested time and will not leave a person hanging. Our first time using them was during a weekend emergency - a huge water leak that of course had to happen during a weekend outside of business hours - and yet Almco plumbing was able to send us a technician right away.

Prior to the appointment time we received a text message letting us know that a plumber was on their way, with a picture and contact info of the plumber for ease of identification. Tony Silva is a superstar.

He is super knowledgeable and honest, and he genuinely cares about his customers and understands the urgency of identifying the source of a water leak, and resolving it ASAP. He ran a series of tests and took an extensive amount of photos and videos.

In our case, we ended up replacing half of the pipes in our home because after 2 leaks in a space of 4 months we couldn't put it off any longer. The quote was very reasonable and the repair went super fast.

Almco epoxy-coated the 2 inch cast iron wastewater pipes that feed into the main line from the kitchen and baths.

We had a leak and instead of just fixing the leak, we decided to do something more definitive. We epoxy- coated the main line years ago using a sleeve technology, but that can't be used with small diameter pipes.

There is a newer method using a tube with brushes on the end that coat the pipe with epoxy extruded through the tube. Almco is one of a small number of companies that has that available.

Another is San Diego Plumbing, but they didn't return my call. Almco was great.

Showed up on time, were very pleasant to interact with, and did a good job. It's not cheap to say the least, but it's easily cheaper than if the pipe went completely and we had to jackhammer the slab to repair it.

I tried adjusting it myself but it continued to fluctuate. I called Mike after looking at yelp and he quoted me a fair price to replace the water pressure regulator and made it out within a few hours.

When he got here he diagnosed the potential issues, talk me through the process, and ultimately made the decision to keep the current regulator after confirming there was nothing blocking it when it was removed and inspected. Yesterday was my first time using Proactive Plumbing, and I was impressed by their ability to fit me into their schedule to address a mainline blockage. Ken was punctual, and he was dedicated to fully resolving our issue which took 8hrs of work.

I found the pricing more than reasonable to the achieve clearance of the line. Ken was great at keeping me informed on the steps he was undertaking, and he and Mike demonstrated team work and problem solving skills at the final stage.

Proactive Plumbing is going into my contacts, and they will be my first call going forward. This is a company that has gained my trust, and I recommend them to anyone who is looking for referrals.

I called the main number and spoke to Mike about my water problem. He arranged for Kenneth Showers to come out the same day that I called to diagnose and repair a main line water leak near my meter.

I was so relieved since I had to turn off the water at the street and my house had no water for hours already. I called the city's water department prior and the city employee confirmed that it was on my side and turned off the water.

The source of the leak was undetermined so Kenneth suggested that I call a leak repair company to narrow down the location. Jeff at Pulse Leak Detection came out and found the leak close to the meter.

Kenneth and Roger (plumber apprentice) came out after Jeff left and repaired the joint that came unglued. During this phase, Kenneth noticed that the shutoff valve was also leaking (slow leak) so he arranged to come back to repair that as well.

To protect the hole with the new plumbing, Roger came back after hours with a board to cover the hole and placed landscape rocks on top to secure it. Kenneth was booked the next day (Friday) so he scheduled a return visit the following Monday the to fix the shutoff valve and replace the cartridge in the master bath that he noticed wasn't working when he turned on the water.

During the second appointment, he replaced the shutoff valve with a new and improved model that is easier to work with. He also replaced the Moen cartridge in the master bathtub after resurfacing the valve due to corrosion.

I am so relieved that I found a plumber that knows what he is doing and that his truck has all of the tools of the trade with replacement parts. I have noticed a recent trend with plumbing companies that they save money by having a minimal amount of tooling and not stocking replacement parts.

That is really problematic since the customer has to go and get the part(s) at a home improvement store which defeats the reasoning for calling a plumber in the first place. I would definitely recommend Kenneth Showers and Proactive Plumbing to anyone who is looking for a good communicator as well as a quality plumber who is honest and knowledgeable.

I am going to call Proactive Plumbers the next time I need any plumbing services done. I managed to cross-thread the piece that comes down out of the toilet tank while I was installing a DIY bidet.

I called this company and whoever it was who took the call was very condescending. He seemed miffed that I had tried to do this install myself.

He said it would cost a minimum of $250 to fix. I was surprised and asked if that was because he was mad at me for trying to do my own install.

He said, "No, that's just how much it costs to drive a truck around to do business." In general, he was just unpleasant. I called someone else and got responsive, polite service and they didn't charge near what this guy wanted to charge me.

Maybe they have a more fuel-efficient van? UPDATE: I am updating this review after the issue I experienced has been resolved. Mike and his team were quick to respond to a potential water leak I experienced at my home.

After work was completed on the home we had a disagreement related to the repair that was done. Mike has since rectified the issue and has gone above and beyond, in my opinion, in doing so.

The only critique I will leave is for customers to ensure they do not authorize any work until they understand the price of the work. Depending on the complexity of the job, you may have to approve work incrementally but this will prevent being surprised during the billing process.

With that in mind, I would recommend proactive plumbing to others in the area. I had a water leak on my water tank heater.

Explained where the leak was coming from and he was honest that it was a simple fix. Told me how to fix it, $4part later It's fixed.

On a scale of 1 to 10 of caring about the customer this fella is a 10+. He really wanted to make sure my wife had a working sink and everything was working properly with the faucet.

When he left the leaks were gone. And he was proud that he was able to help us with a stressful situation.

Thank you to the folks at proactive plumbing! These guys were awesome. I attempted to replace my water shutoff valve on my own and learn a new skill but I ran into an issue when routing the copper pipes correctly and realized that I was in over my head on the task, leaving the house without water overnight.

No thanks to requesting quotes on Yelp, I only got a response from one company but they couldn't come out for a couple days. Thankfully, I found proactive plumbing.

I called them up and they were able to come out the same day. Carl was great and informed me how a typical system is from the supply to main shutoff valve at the house.

To my surprise, the cost was less than I had expected to be quoted, based on on my previous interactions with other companies. I'm so glad he had the right tools to finish the job.

He was able to quickly finish the last section and test my soldering job for leaks, I had doubts about my work but to my surprise we had no leaks. I will definitely keep these guys on my back pocket if I need work in the future.

He was at the house by 7:45 AM and new water heater in by 11:30 AM. Mike even handled the warranty issue with the old heater saving us $500.

Called at 10 am. Job done at 1 pm.

Hot water by 140 pm. Mike also put a complimentary gasket in my toilet tank which stopped a chronic nuisance leak.
